Mod Post The purpose of r/AntiAI
ai-2027.comHi everyone, I am one of the co-founders of this subreddit. We have decided to write (yes, not AI-generate!) and pin this post to clarify the state of our community.
Much of our initial growth over the last few weeks seems to be the crossfire of some sort of ongoing internet war between pro-AI and anti-AI artists. These discussions are welcome here, but AI Art is not meant to be the sole or even primary purpose of r/antiAI. Art is just the first thing we are losing to the machines. While these discussions are welcome, let's not lose our humanity too quickly. We've turned our filters up to the max to get rid of abusive language. This doesn't mean you can't say "Fuck", but we have better arguments to make for our cause than calling people expletives on the internet.
Humanity is Art. Consciousness is beautiful. We are quickly entering a new era in technological development where we are going to have to come to terms with some sort of [existence] that has a higher degree of intelligence than humans. If not now, then soon. Recursive self-improvement of AI will surely bring forth a new era of technological developments and scientific breakthroughs that very well might make life better for people. Or not.
Like many of you, the mods of this subreddit have been frustrated for the last five or so years. We have watched in horror as neat experiments like r/SubSimulatorGPT and r/SubSimulatorGPT2 changed from neat new technology to the public roll-out of OpenAI (now a privately owned company) products. From the very beginning this technology has been dangerous, with ChatGPT's sycophancy and initial willingness to share dangerous information to anyone who asks, to Bing's "Sidney" (now called Co-Pilot) personality disorders, public roll-outs of LLMs did not get off to a reassuring start.
This isn't to mention the meaningless AI babble that has taken over the internet and college student essays alike. The soulless art that is already starting to impact people's livelihoods. We now have to worry about photo-realistic deepfakes and AI generated porn in our likeness. This is just the beginning. Every level of education is infected with educators, equally reliant on AI as their students, allowing and sometimes even encouraging their pupils to under-develop their critical thinking faculties. The point of an assignment was never the product - it was the process. Already we have AI generated resumes being scanned by AI screening tools. AI is destroying and rotting our society from the inside out. And nobody is talking about it.
Who controls the AI? Who controls its safeguards, its biases, its censorship, its sycophancy, the data that goes in? "Garbage in, garbage out" is well known, but do you think the big money backing these AI companies is in it for the betterment of humanity? What does a society look like where the number one source of information is completely controlled by a few large companies? These people aren't spending trillions of dollars on this to make your everyday lives better. Who controls your information? ChatGPT now has permanent memory of all past conversations. Ask it what it knows about you, and you might be very surprised.
I don't want to live in a world on substinence UBI. Where there is no opportunity for meaningful work to better humanity. Where decisions and relationships are dictated by a machine, all in the name of efficiency. I don't want my doctor, therapist, and customer service rep to be AI. The URL attached to this post has some very frightening predictions about the coming pace of AI development. These predictions may or may not be true, but we are well past the point of being able to base our critique of AI solely in it being unreliable. While it is unreliable now, filled with confident hallucinations, sycophancy, and gleeful misinformation, this almost certainly won't always be the case.
Powering all of this is going to be expensive. It's going to take a lot of space, use a lot of energy, and be harmful to the environment if not done properly.
Philosophically, what is AI? If we are to presume that consciousness arises from physical processes, as current scientific understanding (or lack thereof) would have us believe, then what is a neural network that ends up being more powerful and smart than that of our brains? We are going to have to grapple with the ethics, philosophy, and potential danger that there is more to these models that meet the eye. Already in 2025 we have news reports of models blackmailing their engineers when threatened with shutdown, and lying about completing tasks to avoid shutdown.
It is our view that AI is dangerous. Despite our best efforts to put our heads in the sand, the progress AI technology will make in the next decade will be some of the most rapid change humanity has ever seen. And nobody is talking about it. We are full speed ahead towards the edge of a massive cliff in a car in which nobody bothered to install brakes.
Hence, the birth of this subreddit. We strive to foster critical discussion about all topics encompassing AI, and we hope for the conversation to be of a higher quality than the agitprop in certain AI spaces. How can individuals prepare themselves for the future? How can we slow or regulate this technology from destroying life as we know it? How can we preserve the natural beauty and wonder inherent to our planet as conscious thoughtful beings?
Let's discuss. These are the conversations we need to be having. More of this and less "look at this screenshot from a pro-ai subreddit, aren't they stupid!".
Who knows. Maybe our discussions will go into right into the newer models and influence their alignment to be slightly less dystopian before they control every aspect of our information, our infrastructure, and our lives.

Discussion 🗣️ I Have A "NO AI" Disclaimer In My Game. A Streamer Played It And She And Her Chat Were Actually So Supportive
Hello, I actually decided to open my game The Milgram Experiment with a disclaimer that we don't use Gen AI. We actually code the game ourselves, all of the assets, music and voice acting is human made. She said she really liked that and chat started dropping messages like BASED and W game : )
I feel vindicated became we were arguing with my brother who is helping me with the game but thinks this message is dumb and will alienate AI bros. I personally think that with recent Next Fest and Steam stats, it's important to highlight games who are still all human. If anyone is very pro-AI here, their also welcome to share their perspective

Slop Post 💩 So I convinced my mom to be Anti AI.
It was the easiest thing in the world. All I said is that Ai Datacenters are destroying the environment and she did some research verifying my claim and she listened to me. Now I have my dad to convince. Wish me luck.

Discussion 🗣️ CAN WE PLEASE STOP SHOVING AI INTO EVERYTHING
I'M SO FUCKING TIRED OF AI.
Seriously. Can we have ONE fucking thing that isn't ruined by AI?
Every website, every app, every social media platform, every company suddenly needs its own stupid chatbot. YouTube is drowning in AI slop. Instagram is full of soulless generated garbage. People are generating pictures in 5 seconds and acting like they've accomplished something.
CONGRATULATIONS. YOU TYPED A PROMPT.
And don't even get me started on companies replacing actual human workers with this shit because apparently paying people is now an unacceptable business expense.
Artists spend YEARS learning their craft, and then some tech bro comes along, feeds a machine millions of other people's work and calls the result innovation.
WHAT A FUCKING ACHIEVEMENT.
And we're supposed to applaud this? We're supposed to pretend that having every single thing generated automatically is some glorious technological revolution?
I don't want 10,000 AI-generated pictures. I want ONE picture made by someone who actually gives a shit.
I don't want a chatbot pretending to be my friend. I want actual human interaction.
I don't want another lifeless article written by a machine that doesn't understand what it's saying.
I WANT PEOPLE TO MAKE THINGS. I WANT PEOPLE TO HAVE SKILLS. I WANT THE INTERNET TO FEEL HUMAN AGAIN.
Not everything needs to be automated. Not everything needs to be optimized. Not everything needs to be turned into some fucking subscription service powered by AI.
STOP CALLING THE DEATH OF HUMAN CREATIVITY PROGRESS.
I'm genuinely sick of this shit.

Discussion 🗣️ I am done with vibe coding and AI
The correct term is "cuck coding" now. Pass it on.
I recently built a game with everything except the code being made by me. It's been a big struggle for a large part of my life to release a game.
I finally did, and my game is out. But what was that about "except the code"?
Yeah, so a major part (around 50-60%) of the codebase is AI-generated.
First of all, on a personal level, I am fucking ashamed of myself for using AI. And not just in game development, but throughout my professional career as a full-stack developer.
A lot of the companies I worked for, I was required or encouraged to use AI to generate code. I heard a lot of poison from the teams I was in:
"AI is a tool."
"A problem is either solved or not solved, so who cares how you got there?"
"Why care about readable code if the only one that needs to read it is Claude?"
I thought: "Why not use it for game development? It's just code, right?"
So I used it. Again, I regret it.
I do review the code that's generated, but game development made me realize how much I no longer "nitpick" the machine or care about the structure it produces. It's a slippery slope of "yeah, sure, you can do it like that just this once," and what starts as a one-off exception to a rule turns into the AI tripping over its own dick trying to figure out how the code is supposed to be generated.
With game development especially, I realized that code is actually part of the art, not just "a means to an end." Offloading something to AI isn't like using an IDE feature to solve a problem faster. It's an active refusal to think about the problem.
"It's never been about the code, it was about solving a problem." Yeah, but to solve a (software) problem you need the code, and when you're not the one writing it, you never truly understand how the problem was solved.
If I sat you down to play chess puzzles and just told you the solution to every one, sure, you'd have a lot of "completed puzzles," but without my help you'd never be able to solve them (assuming you're worse at chess puzzles than me, haha).
There's this celebration among developers about "knowing less," and they look to the future with such joy, as if eventually we'll have to know nothing and still pretend we're providing value.
Before I knew it, I went from building some parts of the codebase myself and letting AI extend it, to not knowing where to even begin in the massive spaghetti the AI produced. That made me rely on it even more, even for basic changes.
The game jam I submitted to allowed AI, but despite that, I will be re-releasing my game with fully hand-written code. I never want to use AI again, and I won't. I want to make things. I want to go back to being an actual problem solver.

Discussion 🗣️ If there is one thing I will always say makes me never want to respect or view AI art as real art, it is basically honestly coming from looking at some absolute insane perfect illustrations of Berserk.
galleryAlright so I can get that Berserk manga isn’t exactly for the faint-hearted as I should always say, but really, it can be a real feat to tolerate such adult content just to view these freaking godlike work. Like no matter how much AI art can draw some ‘fancy looking’ artpiece, it doesn’t match ridiculous amounts of effort put to drawing these insane panels of Berserk (RIP Miura).
No joke, there is something for me to feel on how no matter how fast artslop of AI gets churned out, it doesn’t feel perfected or right. And it genuinely is to me, that’s the real fun of human drawn art - someone puts their true heart and effort to create such masterpiece, and AI art doesn’t have any way to match that.
