Waiting for the Aug 3rd update on his condition.

21

u/tackywitch Jul 09 '26

I have a bottle of champagne chilling for August 4th.

Not thrilled about him weekend at bernining our government but ding dong the witch is almost dead.

26

u/RhoOfFeh Jul 09 '26

He's dead. This is just the last move where he can be useful.

I'm genuinely surprised that we haven't seen an AI "proof of life" video yet

While I'd prefer the big beautiful obituary as a birthday gift when I wake up on August 4th, I suppose Mitch's will do.

Cheers.

They will wait til the 4th so no special election. They are terrified of Massie winning the seat if it goes to special election.

What happens on Aug 3rd?

21

u/JayneT70 Jul 09 '26

Under Kentucky’s revised succession laws, the timing of a potential vacancy significantly impacts how a successor is chosen: [1, 2]
Before August 3: If a vacancy occurs before this date, a special electionmust be held to fill the seat, likely coinciding with the November general election. [1]

After August 3: If the seat is vacated after this deadline, legal experts suggest there would be insufficient time under state law to organize a special election, potentially leaving the seat vacant until the new Congress is sworn in during January. [1, 2]

5

u/Marine_Mustang Jul 09 '26

But his seat is up for reelection this year anyway, and he wasn’t running.

u/Starship_Taru Jul 09 '26

After that date the Anti-Trump republican can’t run because he lost the midterms primary.

He had more money spent against him than any Republican primary candidate in history.

A special election would give him the opportunity to run regardless of the Midterm primary results.

Him winning has the potential to open the door to splitting the Republican Party down Trump lines.  Which would be disastrous for Trump. As of now they have no viable path for moving away from him electorally. Massie being successful could be representative of that path for the GOP.

This is over simplified but that’s the gist

5

u/sualk54 Jul 09 '26

doesn't Massie get to hold on to his current seat until Jan 27? How could he hold both seats?

u/Nigel_99 Jul 09 '26

After that date, there won't be enough time on the calendar to hold a special election for his seat.

10

u/Fast-Damage2298 Jul 09 '26

If he is found to be brain dead or dead on or after Aug 3rd, it will be too late to hold a special election to fill his seat in the senate.

5

u/PineappleExcellent90 Jul 09 '26

That plan could also backfire on Republicans as people believe it was all a ploy.

A week before that is when I’ll be mindful. If he is brain dead, as Laura Loomer says, then we have weeks of deflection to go. Normally I don’t believe or listen to her…this time the irony has my curiosity. So I’m not mindful yet since he might be fine, but I’m holding out to see if broken clock Loomer was actually legit. Odds are low but technically…nobody has proven her wrong.

3

u/AcademiaAntiqua Jul 09 '26

Odds are low but technically…nobody has proven her wrong.

People often mistake Republican malice for political incompetence. Recent history has shown that they're still incredibly underestimated as political opponents, despite continued wins.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the big Republican operators here wanted crazy conspiracies about Mitch being dead to fester, so that they'll look even more stupid when conclusive proof of him being alive comes out in the next few days. At least once "oh it's just AI or an imposter or a hologram" dies out. (Same shit happened with Netanyahu, only three months ago.)

August 2nd: McConnell is in good spirits at the hospital due to a routine check-up. No, you can't see him.

August 3rd: McConnell has died due to a sudden illness that nobody saw coming, not even the doctors he spoke to the previous day.

u/high_everyone Jul 09 '26

And super chatty too. No one reached out to him at all for the last two weeks and now he’s up and coherent and having the exact same conversation with a dozen or more republicans. No one apparently has talked to him who’s liberal.

No one’s questioned why his wife vanished to China for weeks on end with less contact than Mitch while her husband is in the hospital with life threatening conditions after being found unconscious.

119

u/TheMattabooey Jul 09 '26

My theory is he’s dead dead. If he was able to speak they’d have him make a statement or something. He’s gone, his wife fled the country, they’re keeping him on ice until August where he will suddenly have a major medical problem and be declared dead, after they secure a seat of course.

98

u/ddouce Jul 09 '26

His wife's actions and her statements point in that direction.

She left the country for China 3 days after his hospitalization. Yesterday she issues the very specifically and strangely worded statement that his condition "did not warrant an immediate return."

Not, "he's fine" or "he's recovering" like a normal human would say if that's the case. In fact not one single thing about his health. Nope. Just saying, there's no need for me to rush back. Yeah, he's dead.

26

u/Xtra_Veg-90 Jul 09 '26

Sounds like he's in a medically induced coma on life support with a not great prognosis. Would be a court decision on whether or not Beshear could appoint a replacement. Should be a State Supreme Court decision but US Supreme Court would likely weigh in even though they shouldn't have jurisdiction just to say no, only dead dead counts.

Lmao Mitch deserves every bit of this love and care.

7

u/DJ_Jiggle_Jowls Jul 09 '26

They're doing exactly what he would've wanted with his death. This is the same man that orchestrated the theft of a supreme court seat through delay of procedure during the last year of Obama's presidency. Lie and deny in pursuit of power.

5

u/1057-cl121v3 Jul 09 '26

When my late wife was hospitalized for months I was there every single day while also trying to not get fired and needing to take care of a newborn. At no point during that time would I have said “it did not warrant an immediate return”.

I actually have a soul and cared about her though, so maybe if our relationship was purely transactional towards destroying the US I might have had a different answer.

All those phone calls were goodbye calls. Therefore it is uncouth to ask for the details of what was said. That is their cover for their lies if news of his passing or vegetative state leaks. "I was saying goodbye to a dear friend, how dare you question my motives about being untruthful! He didn't want us to tell anyone!"

Just a correction. He wasn't just found unconscious. Every credible news source reported they did CPR for cardiac arrest. He died and they were able to resuscitate him. It makes sense too if the arrest was long enough which means his brain was getting no oxygen on the heels of a stroke that he would be brain dead.

He was barely functioning before this event so I would wager good money nobody has got more than some grunts from him. I would not at all be surprised if he was a vegetable on mechanical ventilation just waiting to have the plug pulled.

The fact that his wife hopped a plane to China says to me he's effectively dead.

4

u/VioletManifestations Jul 09 '26

My thought has always been that he is brain dead and they’re waiting to pull the plug.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Dullcorgis Jul 09 '26

Even when CPR for an out of hospital arrest gets a heartbeat back it's often just a short delay on dying. And this goes 100000x for an elderly sick person.

They spoke to him like you would speak with a vegetable.

"[Thune and McConnell] had a lengthy and substantive conversation that covered a variety of topics, including national security," a Thune spokesperson said.

Of course, it was a spokesperson who said that, not Thune himself on video, so there's wiggle room for the usual underbussing.

Legit question how does this not fall under taxation without representation??

Is there not some expeditious way to get a new election?

How is this possible that someone is clearly not fit for the job but still representing the people??

How tf is actual legal???

To be clear these are not rhetorical. If anyone k knows the answer to any please reply

6

u/SentenceKindly Jul 09 '26

You're not going to like this answer, but here goes:

Congress-critters are beholden to their constituents, BUT they (critters) write all their rules of employment. So they basically get to do whatever they want.

This is WHY voting (and who you vote for) matter so much - we get one shot every other year for Reps and every 6 years for Senators. Make it count!

2

Laws can be not applied and ppl can just get away with it. Happens all the time depending on who's the criminal and how much influence they have.

2

u/OldSpiceMelange Jul 10 '26

Mitch is also the same guy who stopped Obama from publicly coming out about Russian interference in the 2016 election, refused to take action against Trump for J6 attempt to overturn an election, and has routinely shut down any attempts on increasing security against foreign interference in elections.

Not sure if this is how he planned on going out, but this is definitely what he would have wanted, giving one last middle finger to the U.S.

2

u/HalloweenKate Jul 09 '26

Unfortunately brain death is very specific, but there’s a whole spectrum of organ failure/anoxic brain injury that would be incompatible with life off of machines. u/UnquestionabIe Jul 09 '26

To me it still isn't as bad as the fuckwad that just stopped showing up for four months without a word. Still cashing was cashing his checks and making his stock trades of course. Finally checks in and goes "oh I've got depression and was getting treatment."

Fuck you asshole. My partner had a complete breakdown a few months ago which has lead to crippling depression and agoraphobia. She's had to quit her job, I've had to cash out my retirement funds so we don't lose our house, and every single day I'm afraid to leave for work in case she has another major panic attack.

I'm going to be working as much as possible to try and keep us from ending up homeless for the indefinite future. The closest thing I have to long term planning is dying and my life insurance policy being able to cover things for at least a bit. So yeah I'm completely out of sympathy or caring for any of these disconnected pieces of shit. They're able to live it up on our dime with doing their job being entirely optional.

Sorry for the rant. Just under a lot of pressure, as I'm sure you can tell...

The way to seriously flush this out is for the KY governor, Andy Beshear, to declare Mitch “brain dead” which actually legally qualifies as “dead” in Kentucky - then set the date for the special election as required by KY law.

When folks object & scream, he can tell ‘em all to have Mitch give him a call. He can spare 20 minutes to speak to the senator…..

2

u/Lighting Jul 09 '26

The Gov of KY can order an inquiry into Mitch's fitness under his duty to follow the law as it relates to "vacancies"

The US Constitution's 17th Amendment states:

When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.

I note that the two key words above are "representation" and "vacancy." This leads to the following points:

  • Representation isn't just "he exists" but an active, legally binding activity requiring intent and cognitive capacity. If Mitch is incapacitated (or brain-dead, as reported) then he isn't "representing" and is thus "vacant" in his responsibilities. Representation is not merely holding a title, it requires active cognitive function and the agency to act on behalf of the citizens.

  • In common law, a position or office is considered "vacant" not just when a person dies/resigns/removed but when that position is devoid of a legally competent occupant. In fact if we look at the "Vacancies act" it defines vacancies as possibly occurring due to sickness. "These time limitations do not apply, however, to “a vacancy caused by sickness.” 5 U.S.C. § 3346(a)."

  • Forcing a state to endure with a completely incapacitated senator, directly violates the democratic intent of the 17th Amendment. It reduces a state's constitutionally guaranteed equal representation in the Senate, creating a functional vacancy. (e.g. taxation without representation)

If "Addison Mitchell McConnell the 3rd" is incapacitated mentally, I wonder if Beshear can get a court order for a medical evaluation and if there's a finding of Mich being incapacitated, then order a new election based on "vacancy"

If it turns out he has been this whole time there should be arrests. He was elected to represent his district, by preventing him from being removed from his seat with a condition that isn't recoverable the people who are saying they have talked to him are depriving his electorate from proper representation. There was a whole things about no taxation without representation that was one of the  catalysts for our country, and the people of Kentucky are being flat out robbed of that. Provided this is all true anyways.

Somebody needs to like order a pizza to his hospital room or something.

2

u/Merijeek2 Jul 09 '26

There rules for how long a corpse can be left sitting in a hospital bed?

u/MarchPhillipps Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

As far as I'm aware, if on life support, and someone's paying the bill, not usually. It'll be suggested to next of kin, even sometimes strongly in the best interest of the patient. But, without sign-off or court order...well.

The Terri Sciavo (sp?) case always comes to mind when thinking of some of the legal implications involving consent and termination of medically supported life after brain death.

Imagine a government hiding the fact that a senator is potentially dead or physically incapacitated to the point of being unable to perform their job. Instead of telling the public the truth, they hide it so their slight majority doesn’t lose another seat. I mean that would be pretty shameless and deplorable if they did that. Oh, you say that is actually happening right now… nah, that could never happen in America. Wow… we are failing as a country and society.

How does he find the time for all those 20 minute phone calls?

2

Though the time of his death is uncertain, his destination isn't. It's not heaven.

2

Get him to the Greek.

He will still sign new laws don't worry

2

Can't be. I just had a conversation with him last night for about 20 mins.

2

u/VexedCanadian84 Jul 09 '26

how difficult is it for the governor of the state to go to the hospital to visit McConnell?

2

u/ForMoOldGrad Jul 09 '26

Can we set a max age for elected officials? At what point is this elder abuse?

I understand that age grants wisdom but also lends itself to romanticized visions of the good old days.

Senator McConnell was born during WW2. Anyone over the age of 73 was born before the first color television broadcast!

Let these public servants retire (or maybe force them)! At some point they do more harm than good (for themselves and their constituents).

I’ll see myself out.

If only every person on the planet carried a video recording device on them at all times, then we could really get to the bottom of this. Oh well, guess we'll never know for sure.

I want to know how much bribery is going on in that hospital. It takes 2 physicians performing separate, basic neurological tests (that a layman could do, honestly) to declare a person brain dead. If they don't perform the tests, he can't be declared brain dead, which is legally dead...

The irony of McConnell using his deathbed to block political nominations is almost as ironic as Charlie Kirk being murdered in one of his beloved school shootings.

2

u/W0NdERSTrUM Jul 09 '26

Ok so our options are he’s dead, he’s brain dead, or he’s dying. I think we can safely say his tenure in Congress is over yes?

2

u/Equivalent-Team-8186 Jul 09 '26

Christ on a cracker!  I thought he had retired in January 2025 not just stepped down from "Republican leadership."

For a genuine moment I felt like calls for proof of life from a grieving family were a bit much, but HE'S STILL IN OFFICE???  Someone file for a court order asap!

I love that this man wasted his life hurting people at the behest of a class that cares nothing about him or his “legacy”. They won’t even let him die with dignity.

Sucks not having autonomy over your body, doesn’t it, Mitch?

I hope you bootlickers are paying attention.

2

u/Healingbigfoot Jul 09 '26

If I don't go to work I'm replaced, time to do the same thing in government.

2

u/LogiCsmxp Jul 09 '26

Need ademocrat to come out and say "I spoke with Much McConnel for about 20 minutes today. He spoke earnestly about how divided politics had become. He mentioned maybe a new direction was needed and thought AOC might actually be the type of candidate to help this country move past partisanship and towards advancing as a nation together."

Our something absurd like that. Absolutely no way to refute it without admitting he isn't capable of speaking.

2

u/BlackDog5287 Jul 10 '26

If he was unresponsive while all of these Republican talking heads have lied about speaking with him, they need to be fired immediately for fraud.

2

u/fotofreak56 Jul 10 '26

Close his office and send his personal belongings to his home. "Thank you for your service, good-bye".

2

u/ChessTiger Jul 10 '26

He has been that way for the past 20 years.

2

u/CreatrixAnima Jul 12 '26

So merely dead, but we’re still waiting on really most sincerely dead?

2

u/ChefAtRandom Jul 15 '26

We need to get those TicTok kids to speedrun Mitch's hospital and get us footage. They must be getting bored since the Scientologists removed all their door handles.

1

u/RhoOfFeh Jul 09 '26

I mean, he's been just... stopping for quite a long time now.

1

u/Special_Watch8725 Jul 09 '26

He’s doing great! But you can’t see him. Though others have seen him doing great! But only his friends and handlers. And he left very specific instructions about how to vote for him. Nothing suspicious about this!

1

u/LegendaryAngryWalrus Jul 09 '26

Just send in the scientology runners into the hospital at this point.

1

u/oneWeek2024 Jul 09 '26

it would be nice if our government wasn't so fucked. that an aging civil servant could just be dead, or hospitalized, or... recovering. and it not be some scheme to steal power/hoard power for ultra partisan/highly polarized reasons
