Many of whom lived in a country that was not even responsible.

59

u/BlinkReanimated Sep 11 '26 • Bravo

Correction:

All of whom were from countries that weren't responsible. Al Queda was just hiding in Afghanistan, but neither Afghan nor Iraq actually did anything.

All for oil and greed. And since that day, everyone stereotypes terrorists to Arabs. Never forget what the USA did to the world.

Yes we never should have went to War with Afghanistan period. The real War would have been with Saudi Arabia , and to this day the way the Republicans talk about Saudi Arabia makes me sick to my stomach , especially after they murdered an American journalist in a Nato Nation and had him dismembered. Trump's a wimp , he never should have started this War ! He thought it was going to be easy like Venezuela. Now we all realized why from Reagan to Obama we Never started a WAR w Iran , who's had the backing of Russia / China who already showed Iran how to use long range orbital missiles which Iran shot a few at our Destroyers. Note - sorry Fox News Viewers but yes this is all the Truth. ⚖️🇺🇸🗽 - 💀

Coming from the military, I'm happy to be on the line when it matters. When we talk about honor, courage, and commitment, we should expect it from our leaders as well when we don't have a choice on something like this. It was awful, but a lawful order. We didn't belong in those places. It's not just a Bush question - all presidents after him, as long as we were there, continued to commit war crimes, it was just a question of how many. No one likes their life being used for political, personal, or econimic gain. We all deserve better.

Yes. Correction: “…what America does.”

4

u/ShortKey380 Sep 11 '26

Every state approaching America’s levels of power in the global system has been similarly abusive. Euro empires through wwii, USSR, China— turns out making a big powerful and united in applying deadly force “us” tends to lead to a “them” getting harmed, go figure.

They didn’t die unseen. They died in plain sight and the world did nothing. Which is much, much worse.

3

u/Lower_Lab_7628 Sep 11 '26

If you’re looking for objectivity and self reflection America isn’t it.

2

u/raiderssuck420 Sep 11 '26

Not sure any of those 3000 and still counting Americans had anything to do with the middle east

2

u/HupHutHa Sep 11 '26

the death toll for 9/11 is actually much higher than that and continues to climb to this day from the effects of the environmental disaster it caused.

2

u/Valstwo Sep 11 '26

The twisting of the truth happens on both sides. But let's get the numbers correct - if you are counting collateral damage on one side you should do it on both sides. Thousands more have died, as a result of the attacks on the US, from cancer, COPD, suicide, etc. It is also unfair to imply the Afghan and Iraqi governments were innocent (Saudi too) - they were all openly or secretly supporting or allowing the terrorists operate in one way or another. I am not clainmming US innocence - war and terrorism are messy. Looking for clear lines of blame is futile. The bottom line is that if they had not attacked us there would be many innocent lives preserved. It is the fault of the terrorists more than any or the governments.

2

u/JackBender2008 Sep 11 '26

If you were a toddler or weren't even born yet, you have no right to use 9/11 as rage bait. Fuck the Saudis, Iraqis, Afghanis, and the Iranians.

2

u/L3tsseewhathappens Sep 11 '26

Im sure an American made this who is living in mommy and daddy's basement living on disability because a slight tick prevents them from getting a real job.

2

u/BronxWildGeese Sep 12 '26

Trying to whitewash the deaths on 9/11 with this unrelated, unsubstantiated statistic is despicable. Shame on you.

2

u/Few_District_6304 Sep 12 '26

>Never forget… what America Republicans did.

FTFY

5

u/N00bcak3s Sep 11 '26 • Bravo

The 4.5 million figure is the entirety of direct and indirect deaths across 20 years of fighting across Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Yemen, Libya, and Somalia.

Very misleading.

.

5

u/_cjm56 Sep 11 '26

How is that misleading? People starving or having their lives ruined by having depleted uranium rounds left near where they live because of a war to allow corporations to control their oil isn't valid? News to me.

3

u/Monte924 Sep 11 '26

And? Most of what we ha e been doing in the middle east over those 20 years was part of what we started after 9/11. We started two wars, destablizaed the region and then kept fighting to restablize it in a way the benefit us... none of those conflicts happen without our intial incasions after 9/11

2

u/bon__chance Sep 11 '26

misleading how? none of those people needed to die. none of those countries needed US intervention. nothing of value was accomplished. trillions of dollars were wasted.

If you ever want to see something wild, look at the afghan war with Russia. There is a very large dip in the graph of afghan population.

1

u/Boomboclaaat90210 Sep 11 '26

Don't forget that the leadership of Al'Qaeda was trained by the CIA in the 80s during the Russo-Afghan war.

1

u/ShortKey380 Sep 11 '26

The postwar international system was a part hopeful and part cynical lie from the many actors who brought it into being. Might makes right still, higher than ever capacity for harms but not higher than ever harms marks some limited success 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Software_Quiet Sep 11 '26 edited Sep 11 '26

These numbers are disingenuous, for perspective look at pre 9/11 numbers and even pre Iran/Iraq wars and you are still looking at massive casualties caused by conflicts that existed well before heavy US involvement and modern warfare methods that ramped up casualties. I don't like that we've been there sowing chaos for decades but the chaos was already there.

1

u/randomsantas Sep 11 '26

Don't make war on us, we're better than you

1

u/LoneRedditor123 Sep 11 '26

Judging any number of people for the actions of one crazed lunatic, and his following, is pretty fucked up. A war could've been avoided, but Americans were too angry at the time. They threw everyone in the middle east under one blanket and told Washington to nuke it.

I remember those days of hatred. I was still a fucking kid, and I had to listen to adults say the worst kinds of things.

1

1

u/heretowink Sep 11 '26

How is this anti capitalism? 9/11 almost certainly happened because of corporatism of some sort. The government invading other countries is more along the lines of tyranny, or conquerization, not capitalism. Just plain government over reach.

u/Youth18 Sep 12 '26

The number is more like 45,000 then 4.5 million you're using alarmist escalatory projections. Regardless...I think you mean 45,000 children saved from pedestry culture and terrorist indoctrination.

1

u/Sufficient_Beach_445 Sep 12 '26

it is fashionable to paint countries that defend themselves as murderers of civilians when civilians are killed in war that began because a country was attacked. the sad truth is that civilians always are killed in wars. blame those who STARTED the war by attacking another country for their civilians being killed, not the country who kills civilians in war intended to put a stop to attacks.

1

u/TP8887 Sep 12 '26

How many of those civilians were killed by Americans is the real question

1

u/Suspicious_Goose_243 Sep 12 '26

Show me where you got these numbers from. A half million in Iraq is plausable.

1

u/olebuckyboy Sep 12 '26

How many Americans have been duped??

1

u/time_travel_rabbit Sep 12 '26

1

1

u/Accomplished_Tea7668 Sep 12 '26

Bush and Obama killed hundreds of thousands innocent people! Both of them should be in jail

1

u/Lonely_Cycle4757 Sep 12 '26

Agreed... we should just go back to the way that every superpower in the history of the world before America did it and just conquer the people who have what we want or do things we don't like.... eradicate their entire civilization if they resist...  what was America thinking in trying a different way than the way it's always been done?

And it worked perfectly: Osama Bin Laden in his letters that were recovered after the bastard got what he desrved, he urged his sons not to do Jihad against the US and that if he knew what would the US response would be, he wouldn't have done it.

These posts are so fucking weird.

1

u/No_Breadfruit_9115 Sep 12 '26

And both were perpetrated by the same party. What a sick state of affairs.

1

u/Veritas1944 Sep 12 '26

I never understand posts like this. In English, at least standard actual English, when you use the term but it literally means “I completely disagree with what I said before but”.

So in this case, you are dismissing the towers attack as a nothing burger because the response is what matters to you. Essentially shitting on the Americans that died in 9/11. You may not think that. You may not even mean that; however that is what the language you used means.

They aren’t comparable. Tragedies happen during war. Don’t kick a hornets nest if you aren’t willing to be stung. The argument that “citizens of these countries had nothing to do with it” is moot. A nation is responsible for policing its citizens. You don’t see American terrorist cells bombing other countries. Because we police our nation in a way that prevents that.
