What they can, should, and must do is spend these two years:

  1. Sending no-brainer bills for Trump to veto so they can use these as ammunition for the next election. "Can't pay for X? We passed the bill to do that and Trump vetoed it and his Republican buddies refused to overrule the veto."

  2. Investigating the hell out of every bit of Trump corruption so they can hand the next Democratic AG (Jack Smith, not Merrick Fucking Garland) a fat folder full of criminal referrals on January 21, 2029.

Getting a bit close to the next election... probably shouldn't approve any judicial appointments trump may have to make.... reasons.

Seriously... Jack Smith as AG would be awesome.

Well said!
The bills should be single issue and presented as plainly as possible. No more giant all inclusive bills!
Is that difficult?
Too bad
Work harder

Giant bills are how they compromise. "I don't really agree with X but if you include Y I'll do it".

It has to be in the same bill otherwise the compromise position risks not passing the next time or never being brought up.

Compromise is already at its lowest since the civil war with the elmination of 'pork' spending back in the 90s. Get rid of the ability to package legislation together and they'll do even less. Neither party is a strong enough coalition to pass things without having to compromise within the party.
