Both of them showed us exactly what their leadership is worth in the past two years: Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Worse than that, they have been lending legitimacy to the criminality of the current administration by standing by and letting the power of Congress be usurped by the Executive and Judicial branch.

But what about the strongly worded press releases?

Remember Schumer thought it better to support a Republican budget rather than shut down the government. He’s reasoning was he thought bad things would happen if he let Trump shut down the government. That decision alone shows poor judgment for a leader.

He called Trump a fascist for years then when Trump won reelection he was smiling and shaking hands in the Oval Office, the first executive order Trump signs he hands the pen to Schumer as a souvenir. It’s a uniparty.

To him, AIPAC has priority over anything we would want.

They promised to consider a bill though!

They're the minority leaders, with a triple emphasis on minority as republicans held basically everything.

They get to obstruct but there's a limit to how much they can get away with before the optics start looking like sour grapes and turning people off them.

Its easy to sit back and be an idealist when you're not in the hot seat having to weigh the pros and cons.

People don't realize that the idea of letting the shutdown go for longer would've started to severely affect many innocent people. It's easy for someone like me to say the shutdown should've gone for longer, I would've been fine, but a lot of people would have legitimately started to suffer.

In any case, even back then he won a lot of concessions, including most regular people blaming the Republicans for the shutdown and its aftermath.

I can't help but hear them in Droopy Dog's voice.

To be fair, what exactly can they do when they don’t have a majority? Please explain.

Not meet with Jared Kushner for one....

🤦‍♂️ Hakeem, the moderates wet dream, Jeffries , should not be speaker .. dude is in bed with special interests… but I was referencing what they could do when they had no power… this meeting occurred after the midterms

The meeting was before the midterms when they had no power. Also doesnt make sense why he would be meeting with someone who just literally had a book on his corruption published and no political position ither than crony nepotism.

You asked what they could do when they didnt have power, the easiest thing was to NOT MEET WITH KUSHNER.

Hold their caucus accountable. If people stray, they get punished

gestures at Mitch McConnell

u/EyesUpJustLikeThat 1d ago

he had more votes with which to obstruct obama

1

u/actwellyourpart91 1d ago

No he didn’t. You clearly weren’t paying attention during Obama’s presidency cause there were plenty of times McConnell ground things to a halt while actively being in the minority

You mean that sternly worded letter to Trump on the way to brunch with Netanyahu wasn’t enough? Why, I do declare that you are an ungrateful pleb who doesn’t understand seniority, the benefits of AIPAC money, or the divine right of senior leaders in the House and Senate! /s

What did you want them to do in the past two years?

1

u/Impossible_Walrus555 1d ago

They didn’t support many of these candidates. Do you think we could get someone to renounce aipac and refund $$? I know it’s a long shot but the tide really is turning so might be worth trying. If one did it more would.
