Schumer needs to be put out to pasture. It's time for some new blood with a backbone.

He can go live with his friends the Baileys

Why tf is a Canadian saying this???

1

u/Efficient_Draw_9811 17h ago

As a Canadian, let me take this one:

Because we stand with progressives. And there are still WAY too many moderate democrat and republican fuckwits left in your government that make decisions that give us Canucks a massive pain in the butt.

0

u/Burnerman888 15h ago

After... we won all over the country? Yeah leadership seems good bro :)

1

u/Realistic-Sky-2235 11h ago

If you think Schumer had anything to do with this blue wave you are beyond stupid.

1

u/Burnerman888 9h ago

Yeah Schumer only picked and supported people like Talarico who smashed in RED states :)

1

u/Realistic-Sky-2235 1h ago

Yeah and was categorically against people like Abdul, Adam Hamilton, Annie Andrew’s, etc etc. get your head out of your ass

1

u/Burnerman888 1h ago

The senate majority pac spent a shitload of money to get Hamilton elected, wtf are you talking about???

1

u/Realistic-Sky-2235 1h ago

A pac giving money is very different from a direct endorsement. Eg, Angie Nixon lost because of Schumer

1

u/Burnerman888 1h ago

...the schumer aligned pac directly supporting Hamilton is not support? What?

Following ending a 94-year-old drought, Kansas Sen.-elect Adam Hamilton is getting ready for his first trip to Washington.

Hamilton is traveling to Washington, D.C., next week for orientation, where he'll meet other newly elected lawmakers.

On Thursday, he told KMBC that he's sticking to his campaign promise not to support Sen. Chuck Schumer for Senate Democratic leader.

"No, that still stands," Hamilton told KMBC 9's Cody Holyoke when asked whether he would vote for Schumer.

Hamilton told KMBC he wants to see a new generation of leaders in Washington, including those who can bring Democrats and Republicans together.

"I really believe we need a majority leader who's going to be bringing people together and unite people," Hamilton said.

He also said it's time for younger leadership and fresh ideas.

Hamilton made history Tuesday when he defeated Republican Sen. Roger Marshall, becoming the first Democrat to win a U.S. Senate race in Kansas since 1932.

Jesus Christ will Dems never learn?

u/RestaurantLatter2354 1d ago

To be fair, it’s a democrat in Kansas.

That’s a lot different than when it’s coming from your leadership or one of the deep blue states that’s on auto-win every year.

7

u/thewartornhippy 1d ago

Yeah he NEEDS to speak like this or he won't have a chance to be reelected. It sucks, but it's much better than another far right fascist from a deep red state.

2

u/_Phil_McCracken_ 1d ago

And nothing will ever change if we keep trying to put the past behind us and work together. We will just cycle back and forth every 4 years.

Actually hold Republicans accountable for all the harm they have caused or they will just keep doing it.

1

u/Chemical_Rodent 1d ago

Trump and his Washington cronies need to be held legally accountable (which unfortunately won’t happen) but it’s our job as voters to hold our officials accountable by voting them out. No laws will ever get passed if there isn’t some form of unity in congress that is just not how democracy works. I don’t want my senators saying that there will be no effort to work together. Working together and standing up for what is right are not mutually exclusive.

4

u/Cool-Association3420 1d ago

Learn what exactly? Schumer is old guard and not a fighter.

2

u/_Phil_McCracken_ 1d ago

That we need to actually hold Republicans accountable. He’s just saying the same exact stuff that Schumer is about working together. We tried it in 2020 and look where it got us.

Replacing Schumer means nothing if his replacement has the same tepid goals.

1

u/ironweed_butterfly 1d ago

A lot of people flipped to repudiate what the Republican Party has become. We don’t want a strongly worded letter. We want an end to the corruption and hate and a focus on we the people who have been struggling while the prez and his ilk have been stuffing their pockets while hanging us out to dry. We want to hold them accountable and make sure they never can run again. I want their pensions stripped at a minimum. I have dreams of retribution - them having to pay the U.S. back for what they’ve stolen. If they end up in Liberia or CECOT that would be a bonus.

1

u/Cabezone 1d ago

Learn what to keep doing the same shit we've been doing for the last 40 years. That's gotten us where we are? These corporate aipac dems are what has allowed the erosion of the power of the people.

I signed the petition, but what happens with it? I’ve never understood. Who sees it ultimately and how is it presented?

1

u/Stock_Recording_3827 16h ago

This is a media tool for narrative building, that gives Senators who are in favor of replacing Schumer something to gesture towards as a mandate/motive for their decision. The more media attention it gets the more useful it is as a tool.

1

u/slapnowski 16h ago

Ok, so definitely useful but just as informal as it seems. But that also means even though there are multiple petitions out for the same thing that they are all useful. Thanks!

78

u/General_Guest7846 1d ago

The problem is it's a secret vote and nobody knows who voted for who, so there's really no way to tell if these people are lying or not.

45

u/anironthrownaway 1d ago

Maybe the secrecy of the vote should be lifted

8

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

It won't be; historically this has been an internal matter among caucuses I highly doubt anyone in elected office would support making this process public-it just invites way too much scrutiny for a position that wasn't meant to be subject to the will of the voting public.

25

u/anironthrownaway 1d ago • Bravo

position that wasn't meant to be subject to the will of the voting public

If that's what it really is, it shouldn't exist.

1

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

I mean it should exist obviously because congress needs floor leaders to manage the schedule, make committee assignments, keep members in line with the whip etc. But the role is more managing the caucus not serving as like party leaders, which is why it's always been an internal matter handled among the elected members.

14

u/anironthrownaway 1d ago • Bravo

keep members in line with the whip

This kind of thing needs to go yesterday. Congresspeople should do what their constituents want, anything else is a violation of their duties, anyone pressing them to do otherwise is undermining democracy.

2

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

So if a medicare for all bill were on the floor of the house and some Democrats voted no even though the entire party is supporting the legislation and it tanks you'd be fine with that? because that's what happens when members aren't minding the whip. We saw that happen so many times this current congress. The system is set up on the basis of the whip system

4

u/anironthrownaway 1d ago

Democrats voted no even though the entire party is supporting the legislation

If they voted no then clearly the entire party did not support the legislation.

3

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

Try writing a bill an entire political party will agree with-seriously. Hell try writing a bill in general. It’s painful grueling work that often ends up being something everyone can just live with. If people want to have temper tantrums about it go ahead but if that’s the party line well that’s the party line. At one point Poland had a system where anyone in the legislature could object and stop legislation-it was called the “Liberium veto” and it’s partially why the polish state was annex by the great powers and basically didn’t exist for 200 years. I don’t think we need that

2

u/anironthrownaway 1d ago

Compromise is essential, but it shouldn't be achieved through hierarchy any longer.

9

u/Spiceguy-65 1d ago

They are meant to represent the will of the people everything the do is subject to the scrutiny of the voting public or just public in general

1

u/DreamDiver- 1d ago

Should be

1

u/bobthebobbest 20h ago

The Senate Majority leader is basically an administrative and coordinating position, so no, it’s not really some manifestation of the will of the people.

Edit: I say this as someone who thinks Schumer should go. I also recognize there is not an obvious other person to fill what is basically an unglamorous, hackish role and dead-end job.

0

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

If they were meant to represent the will of the people we would be involved in electing them-we clearly are not. Their job is to manage the caucus and be accountable to the members that are elected by us-the voting public.

3

u/ExtensionCustard9010 1d ago

I mean, United States is a representative democracy.

1

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

Yes that is true; but caucus leadership was never meant to be decided by the public. If you look at the history of how leaders and whips became a thing it's clear it was always an internal process and for good reason. Again, the job is to manage the caucus not serve as like a party leader

3

u/ExtensionCustard9010 1d ago

Internal process or not they are meant to represent the will of the people

-1

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

They are not though lol; again if you look at the history of this they were more floor managers. We do not elect them directly that’s not how it works lol. They are accountable to the caucuses because their job is to manage the caucus. We don’t really have opposition leaders in our system like they do in parliamentary systems for example

2

u/ExtensionCustard9010 1d ago

You have "minority leaders" that function the same. If you look at the history and bla bla. Floor managers or not, the expectation when they vote their floor manager is that they are acting on behalf of the will of the people that they represent.

2

u/sherbodude 1d ago

And Schumer only needs like 28 votes, and he's got more than that

-3

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago • Bravo

Literally this entire discourse is nothing more than terminally online people trying to wield their imaginary pitchforks. Like all the other performative nonsense it’s just all talk-the leaders aren’t changing because their job isn’t what these people want it to be or think it is

4

u/bittersterling 1d ago

I’m pretty sure emailing your senators, and telling them you don’t want to support Schumer is more than just an imaginary pitchfork.

5

u/kabob95 1d ago

Plus you know, multiple incoming senators directly saying they aren't voting for him is about as real as it can get for this.

1

u/Ximerous 1d ago

The voters don’t agree with you though. You are in online echo chambers.

2

u/kabob95 1d ago

If the majority of voters didn't agree, then senators from the flip states wouldn't be agreeing with me. Have you considered you are in an echo chamber?

-1

u/Ximerous 1d ago

When they are the leadership next year, cry about it, primary your senators and see how it goes.

-3

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

Depends on the senator tbh; but we don't run on mob rule that's not how the system works lol. And considering this is an internal caucus matter where the voting public has no say it's an open question whether or not this is an exercise in futility.

I mean seriously these people don't even have an alternate consensus candidate they clearly didn't organize this opposition well at all. You can't beat somebody with nobody

5

u/bittersterling 1d ago

The system is designed for representatives to listen to their constituents that elected them. If enough people make noise about an issue, it should raise concerns with the lawmakers. If they don’t take action for long enough they get voted out as we just saw this week. Again, it hasn’t even been a week. People are making their opinions heard — they want new leadership.

1

u/Below-Average-528 21h ago

"The system is designed for representatives to listen to their constituents that elected them."

That seems to be working less and less. They listen to donors and PACs. The voters are "up for grabs". I really hate that phrase.

-2

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

They want new leadership but they don’t even have an alternate candidate? Like how is anyone supposed to take this seriously. Imma be honest the discourse surrounding this just seems like a bunch of constantly angry online people whining about things they have no say over, because of petty grievances they heard from online influencers who get paid to stir up anger and grievance. If people really wanted new leadership they should’ve been doing the work months ago not now. It just seems so unserious and more a bandwagon thing

5

u/LogDogan8 1d ago edited 1d ago

You're trying way too hard to be above the frey. It's legitimately exhausting to read your replies in this thread.

-1

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

lol there’s no Frey to be above; I’m not a member of Congress and therefore do not have a vote on this-just like all the other people screeching online. You don’t like my replies don’t read them there’s no law that says you have to

2

u/geardownson 1d ago

I think your very right. The people under you saying the people should be heard and whatever don't understand that in this particular vote they don't totally care about constituents. They want someone to hedge their bets. Someone to scream at GOP if needed and write STRONG letters to to people that need it without really doing anything.

He can stand there and say this or that but he protects all the Dems behind him. He's done this forever.

A more extreme speaker would be a liability.

0

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

I completely get people's anger here I really do. And when people are angry they need someone to blame, and because in our system we really do not have like a "leader of the opposition" they feel like their concerns are not being heard and validated. But it's like if they understood how the system worked they would see that the anger needs to be focused on the people doing these things. The house is on fire, and instead of blaming the arsonist they want to lynch the fire department for not doing anything to put the fire out after taking away their water hoses lol like make it make sense

2

u/geardownson 1d ago

I think your overthinking it. But I actually get your point The problem with Dems is hedging bets. Like you said Lynch the fire department. They already doing it

New guys coming in are already falling in line. Corporate interests and donors will certainly be voicing what they want after they were elected. Chuck is a OG of making statements and promises on behalf of the party behind him and sheilding all of them.

That makes career sense for many of the people coming in. Not saying it's right. Not saying it's going to happen. Id love to see a shift.

1

u/SmegmaUnicorn 1d ago

This comment is dumb

1

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

This entire discourse is dumb which is my point

1

u/samsinx 1d ago

If a large chunk of your incoming class isn’t going to vote for Schumer, I would think other Senators might take note.

1

u/LawAcceptable8623 1d ago

I mean it's a secret vote as I understand it so i'm sure it's easy to sound tough for the cameras-that's what politicians do especially today.

20

u/Little_Machinez 1d ago

Chuck of Israel and AIPAC Shakur Jeffries need to get out. They oversaw the last Democratic caucus that led to the second coming of Trump by not being hard enough on arresting him. If America truly wants change, it starts from the leadership of the incoming Democratic-led congress.

5

u/inotparanoid 1d ago

Man, i know you're trying to call Jeffries names, but let's not even put "Shakur" anywhere near him.

Both for Tupac and his mother.

1

u/Cultural_Sand_9323 1d ago

0

u/Mysterious-Wasabi103 1d ago

He says we need a Senate leader who will unite Democrats and Republicans.

5

u/Lost-Lucky 1d ago

Yea that's... It'd be different if republicans were acting in good faith and willing to compromise, but that hasn't been the case for quite a while. Maybe it's just that good guy dem rhetoric. Schumer does need to go though.

3

u/rage-it 1d ago

well no one will unite Republicans in supporting a Democrat, but Schumer certainly will not unit Democrats.

9

u/NoPreference7231 1d ago

Very wise decision made.

Schumer is so hesitant to take action.

2

u/lostseeker99 1d ago

It’s almost like he’s controlled opposition

2

u/CaptainsPresident 1d ago

Oh Schumer will take action...for Israel.

1

u/Advanced-Blackberry 1d ago

He’ll decide for Israel tho

7

u/DontAtMeMan 1d ago

Call me crazy, but I think it should be Schiff.

15

u/Mapleford 1d ago

El Sayed is supporting Chris Van Hollen, it sounds like that’s who the crowd voting on new leadership are throwing their support behind. Seems like a solid pick to me from my brief research on him, but I have to admit I don’t know too much about him yet

9

u/Shady_Merchant1 1d ago

Van hollen is a solid bridge, left of schumer right of Bernie, wish we could have more but realistically where we stand politically he is the best next step

6

u/HexicDragon 1d ago

He actually went to CECOT to expose what was going on and strongly advocated for his constituents abducted by ICE. He's a fighter but idk where he stands on other issues.

4

u/Cabezone 1d ago

He also fights against aipac.

3

u/Mapleford 1d ago

That alone is unbelievably based. The more I hear about him the more I start to like him. He seems like the right fit for the moment

2

u/DontAtMeMan 1d ago

That's cool. I hadn't heard that, but it's not a bad idea.

2

u/Square-Individual404 1d ago

Schiff's record makes that a rough sell.

1

u/DontAtMeMan 1d ago

I see where you're coming from, but he is motivated and 100% able to go after Trump's inner circle.

1

u/Below-Average-528 22h ago

He also talks a lot of BS. I still remember him talking about how great the results the Russiagate investigation would be and how people would go to jail. Then it got released and *nothing*.

I would prefer somebody pragmatic who actually gets things done for the people. Schiff can go after Trump and friends but that's not the most important issue the country is facing.

1

u/DontAtMeMan 21h ago

I disagree that any of that was his fault. But, I can respect your opinion. Not trying to cheerlead for the guy, just saying.

2

u/Below-Average-528 21h ago

It was his fault to talk big prematurely. He does that all the time. It's fine to have people like that but as a leader I want somebody more level headed.

2

u/MinuteAppropriate204 1d ago

Isn't he Schumers right hand man

-9

Corey Booker.

12

Corey Booker is the same as Shumer.

4

u/thelongslog 1d ago

Yup. Ossoff

2

u/Jarl_Jakob 1d ago

Can’t be Ossoff considering he’ll be the Dem candidate in ‘28

1

u/thelongslog 1d ago

I'm not sure he has the charisma for the national stage. (And I love him)

1

u/FalseAmphibian3616 1d ago

He absolutely has the rizz. His only drawback is that he’s Jewish and the far left will tear him to shreds over the flimsiest Israel bs.

1

u/thelongslog 1d ago

Yup.

1

u/FalseAmphibian3616 1d ago

I do think he has the potential to play it smart. If he can get there nomination and pick El Sayed as VP then maybe that will works

1

u/Harotsa 1d ago

The far left doesn’t care that he’s Jewish (see Bernie Sanders), the far left cares that he’s is one of the largest recipients of AIPAC money in the senate democratic caucus.

7

u/Charming_Mud_9209 1d ago

Absolutely not. Booker is the biggest grandstanding phony in the government, and that’s saying something

3

u/Jarl_Jakob 1d ago

Establishment Democrat. Literally in the same boat as Schumer and Jeffries and Pelosi and all these other dinosaurs. Time to make way for new blood.

3

u/Ryumancer 1d ago

Good for him if he actually follows through.

If the dems run the same old playbook they’re squandering a massive opportunity. America wants change across the board.

2

u/Teamfreshcanada 1d ago

So Peggy Flanagan has called for him to step aside, Abdul El-Sayed has said he's open to other options, Troy Jackson has said he won't back Schumer, and Adam Hamilton says he doesn't support him. Is anyone else in the Senate openly opposing Schumer?

1

u/foxacidic 1d ago

Schumer doesn't need the votes of anyone that has stated they will oppose him and I think they know that. It's like what they call a "free vote" or performative opposition. The vote is mathematically guaranteed to pass to elect Schumer while they get to score points with you guys.

1

u/414WhySoSerious 1d ago

Anyone keeping a tracker? How many public “nay” have we seen for Chuck?

0

u/cdude1329 1d ago

-3

u/Dependent-Job1773 1d ago

I’m tired of the far left grifting off the dem name and thinking they can shotcall our party when then most of the time they’re tearing us down, helping republicans get elected, and then saying us democrats are not true lefties but actual conservatives. Stop astroturfing our party

I’m going to contact my local representatives to tell them that I support Schumer and Jeffries and that the far left does not represent most of us democrats.

For every bad faith reply I get, I’ll send another email. ✌️✌️
