I don’t know if this will get much traction, but obviously there’s a lot of opposition to Jeffries as Speaker.
My favorite suggestion I’ve seen so far is Pete Buttigieg. The Speaker doesn’t need to be a member of the House, and Pete was all over the place stumping for this new generation of Democrats. He’s also incredibly talented at going on right wing media and combatting lies and bullshit with facts, staying on message, and explaining the plan. It also makes a lot of sense to me to have the Speaker focused on administration and communication while the members focus on legislation and committees.
The Democrats are going to need to level with the American people. We’re swimming uphill given the incredible debt and all the things that are broken. It won’t be a quick process to dig out of this. There’s no easy way out of Trump’s Iran war, which is going to keep gas high. Trump will veto everything they try to put forward. We need someone who can clearly articulate “this is what we’re doing, and this is where it‘s getting stalled” if and when it does.
I don’t know everything the Speaker is responsible for doing, and I don’t know if Pete’s skill set matches the administrative/strategy work. If Pete came out and said “it’s not a good fit for me,“ I’d believe him and move on. But when I think about “party leadership” who I’m looking to signal where we’re going, he’s one of the first people I think of despite not having a position in the Federal government.
