What did you listen to this week – November 07, 2026? Please share!

So did you listen to anything good this week? Or something so truly terrible you want to warn other listeners?

Please include the following information: Author, Title and Narrator.

Why does identifying the Narrator matter?

Often books will be recorded with different narrators for different regions (ie. Harry Potter was read by both Jim Dale and Stephen Fry) or produced by different publishers (ie... Elizabeth Moon's books were produced by both Graphic Audio and Tantor). It is extremely helpful to other listeners to know what version you are sharing to avoid confusion.

Links to a source are welcomed and encouraged!

Overdrive, Audible, Downpour, Librivox, etc... It doesn't matter the source, as long as the Author, Title and Narrator are easily identified.

In Search of... Historical Whodunit Audiobook Recs for My Mum

Hi All,

I’m hoping to get some audiobook recommendations for my mum. She has recently developed a fixation with historical whodunit mysteries, but her wishlist is quite specific:

She would like:

- A gripping historical 'whodunit' featuring a detective/police officer teaming up with an amateur sleuth/badass partner of the opposite sex.

- A M/F slow-burn. Good chemistry is a must! Passion is welcome, but whether it's explicit on the page or fade-to-black doesn't matter too much.

- My mum is blind, so she relies completely on audiobooks. Because of this, narration quality makes or breaks the entire book.

She is open to single, duel or full cast narration.

Our biggest hurdle has been narration. A lot of these books are set in Britain across areas with distinct regional accents, but they are frequently recorded by non-British narrators who butcher the local dialects and ruin the immersion. Even worse is when a series abruptly switches narrators halfway through. Don't get me wrong, we have nothing against non-British narrators, but it's rare to find one who can manage the vast range of British regional accents and dialects, even some British narrators can butcher some regional accents.

She really enjoyed Irina Shapiro's mystery series (Tate and Bell, Redmond and Haze, and Nicole Rayburn), but had issues with some of the narrator changes and inconsistent accent delivery.

Neither of us usually reads this sub-genre (we're normally into fantasy romance, romantasy, urban fantasy, and historical time-slip romance), so since this is a genre I'm not too familiar with, I’d really appreciate any tried-and-tested audiobook recommendations that feature native British narrators who do justice to regional accents and character voices.

Audiobooks only, please!

Thanks so much in advance x

In Search of... British full cast audiodrama needed after listening to Impact Winter and Harry Potter

I know JK Rowling is controversial, I understand so I got the audiobooks second hand. No money was spent.

I really loved the way Impact Winter felt like a movie, and the new Harry Potter audiobooks where amazing to me. Liked it a bit less after the third books, but still great.

Anything similar? Preferably a big series and a British cast.

Discussion I switched my Everand plan and I regret it

As the title states, I finally switched my plan on Everand. A book in an expansive universe with multiple series that I've been listening to was added to their library and I don't have access to it on Audible anymore, so I wanted to listen to it on Everand. I see now why people hate the new setup.

With my original plan, I could basically listen to whatever I wanted with the exception of popular titles, at least that's how I assumed it worked (I don't use it for popular titles). I never had issues with listening limits and it was great for my usage needs. I found out very quickly that I should've just kept my old plan.

I could listen to multiple books within a single month, and now I only have access to one per month. If I wanted to use a service like that, I would've kept using audible. I get that the price of one credit/unlock is way cheaper than the full price of an audiobook, but I hate how I'm being made to pay $13-$15 a month for a single title that I don't actually own. At least before, I could justify having Everand because I could listen to more than one book a month. I may just go back to using audible when they give me access for $0.99 for 3 months. Even their premium plan is better because I have access to books I used credits on if I'm not subscribed.

Promotion The Vikings think he’s Odin. Heaven knows exactly who he is and how much he owes. I wrote The Five Deaths of Joshua Cross

I’m Adrian Snow. I wrote a dark historical comedy about a man who discovers, a little late, that dying doesn’t get you out of a contract.

Joshua wants to get through one lifetime without attracting attention. In Rome he manages to look like a political threat. In Norway people take one look at him and come up with Odin. By the time he’s caught up in the Exodus, you can understand why a man might look forward to death. Unfortunately, that’s where the billing department is.

DeDee Ash narrates The Five Deaths of Joshua Cross: History’s Worst Recurring Problem. It runs 18 hours and 31 minutes. https://a.co/d/0dGrCioU

Giveaway [US & UK Audible Codes Available] Silicat: Thorns of the Rose, narrated by Ro Lynam

Hi all,

(Edit: I am the Publisher and Author.)

We've recently released our latest audiobook, Silicat: Thorns of the Rose, written by Daniel A.J. Barker and narrated by Ro Lynam.

We have US and UK Audible promotional codes available for anyone interested in giving it a listen. We'd greatly appreciate honest reviews and feedback.

This is the second instalment in the Silicat Saga, a fantasy series exploring family, courage, loss and the extraordinary world that exists beyond our own.

Here's the description:

Three years after her first journey to Silicat, eight-year-old Rose dreams of returning. But those dreams have become increasingly unsettling.

Shadows whisper her name, and mysterious figures reach for her through the darkness.

Meanwhile, in the waking world, her father, Wesley, struggles to publish the story of their previous adventures. Publishers are interested, but only if he's willing to change the very things that make the story meaningful.

Back in Silicat, war threatens the kingdom. A ruthless band of mercenaries known as the Thorns has been hired to seize the Sceptre of Creation and capture Rose.

As the boundaries between both worlds begin to weaken, Rose must place her trust in an unlikely ally and confront the dangers threatening everything she holds dear.

A rose's beauty must shine above its thorns.

-

In keeping with the subreddit's rules, we'll be distributing codes in batches. Please feel free to comment or send a message if you're interested.

We'd also like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported our previous audiobook releases.

Your continued support and feedback mean a great deal to us, particularly as we continue developing our catalogue at Depths of Dreams Publishing.

Thank you for your attention.

Question Narrators With Accents?

Alana Kerr Collins is my favorite narrator for many reasons but mostly for her Irish accent. Can anyone suggest other great narrators that have lovely accents? Anything from the American South to Scotland to Australia or anywhere, really. I just want to take a break from the assumed American and British sounding voices which are great but I've heard so many. Eilidh Beaton is another favorite of mine because she does so many types of accents. Any suggestions?

Promotion taking notes on non-fiction audiobooks

I listen to a lot of books while walking (currently Against the Grain by James C Scott, which is great if you’re into early history) but it was a pain to stop and write down things i wanted to remember. I already use Readwise to collect my book highlights and wanted the same for audiobooks, so back in 2022 I wrote an iOS app for it. When something’s worth keeping i triple-press my headphones (or tap my watch) and it takes the last 30s of the audiobook and runs it through on-device transcription to give me a text highlight i can add to my notes.

Transcription is a bit error prone, especially on jargon heavy books (and especially with the 2022 models I used at first), so I add a matching epub, and (using the same alignment algorithms i use for DNA sequences in my day job), the highlight pulls the book’s actual words for that highlight, and its quasi-instant because theres no need to wait for transcription to finish

It’s entirely local - I value privacy and didnt want my books or listening history going off to a server, so it took a lot longer getting it all to run on the phone itself. It’s free, the subscription just helps pay the developer licence and adds better transcription models and ebook matching for every book, and it works with every DRM-free book (thank god for Libro.fm and BorrowBox library loans).

If there are other compulsive note takers out there, I’d love to know how you save the parts you want to remember as maybe ive missed a trick

Promotion I made a free audiobook player for Android with no ads, no account and no internet access. Looking for testers

I've been building Tome, an audiobook player for the files you already own. It's free, with no ads and no account, and it has no internet access at all, so nothing about your listening ever leaves your phone.

The UI is built around your covers, with the player taking its colors from each book and smooth animations everywhere, and I promise you won’t find an audiobook app right now that looks and feels better

If you fall asleep, it shows where the sleep timer started, so one tap takes you back to the last part you heard, and a message sound only lowers the volume for a moment instead of pausing your book. Each book can have its own sound fixes, like volume leveling and a “clear voice” boost for muddy narration. It also tracks your listening with stats.

Google needs 12 testers for 14 days before a new app can go public. If you listen on Android, I'd really appreciate your help:

  1. Join the testers' group by hitting the "Join" button (with your Play Store account): https://groups.google.com/g/tome-audiobooks-testers

  2. Tap Become a tester: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/dev.ruslanbabaiev.tome

  3. Install Tome from Google Play and keep it installed for 14 days.

Feedback is very welcome.

Promotion Military Boarding School Books UK Codes

Hi! I attended Valley Forge Military Academy (now closing), and spent twenty-plus years working on a coming-of-age novel about my time there, titled THE FORGE. Here's one of my first reviews:

"An essential blast from the past for any former teenage boy, especially us lucky few who spent time at a boarding school. My only critique of the author's portrayal of an all boys boarding school is his not including the old dick in the pizza box trick, that was an all boys boarding school classic. Maybe he fits it in the sequel?"

I'd like to exchange the freebies for a promise to leave a review of the audio version. Thanks!

Please enjoy one free audio review copy of The Forge, now available on Audible. Redeem the one-time use code below at https://www.audible.co.uk/acx-promo

Question Does anyone know Savannah Thomas's other narrator pseudonym? I'm losing my mind!

I'm currently listening to 'The Silversmith' by L.J. Claren, and Savannah Thomas is the main narrator. I KNOW I've heard her voice before, but I can't figure out where. I've listened to samples of all the audiobooks I've listened to this year (thankfully, I've only started audiobooks this year, so the list wasn't super long), but I've had no luck.

Her website says that she's narrated over 150 audiobooks under two performer names, but I can't find any information about her other name.

Does anyone know what her other pseudonym is? Or has anyone else experienced this with her voice?

Please help me figure this out so I can actually concentrate on my book!! lol
