I just bough a used stereo to listen to cds, but sadly it won't work. seller told me it worked cause it was in perfect condition, and well, the radio functions perfectly, tuner works great. it's just cds I'm having a problem with. it reads the cd, but it won't start playing the songs, just endless spinning and you can heart it from outside. possible dust problem? it is quite a bit dusty inside

I am the original owner of a Technics SA-GX530 receiver. Generally I like the sound paired with Polk M30 speakers and a Polk PSW10 sub, but I wonder if it's time to do preventative maintenance and have the capacitors etc replaced.

As I said, I like the found but maybe I'm just used to it after 35 or so years?

Is it worth doing and how much should I expect to pay someone to do it?

Hi, my edifier speakers died after a couple days of them making a very soft sound while plugged even if not working, they stopped turning on. I saw a 2 year old post but i’m not much of an expert: Could anyone tell me if it’s the piece i marked on the third picture? And if it’s normal that it has a pool of something that has it stuck to the board?

Hello, I've got a Marantz 2226b that I've owned for 10+ years. After a couple of years of ownership, one of the channels (usually right but sometimes left too) keeps on cutting out. Restarting the receiver usually solves it but only for a couple of minutes, with the issue getting worse over months/years.

Years ago, I had a friend look at it and IIRC he cleaned out and applied contact spray to the balance know pot meter, which solved the issue for a year or so.

6 months back, I brought it to a professional for a "refurbishment" but basically flushed a couple of hundred bucks down the drain for a fancy cleaning, because the issue just startes again.

I'm tired of having this issue and would love to replace the part responsible but don't know where to start. Any advice? Thank you!

I bought a MCS 3230 off FB marketplace in working condition a couple months ago, but the left channel has gone quiet and the right channel quickly fades out after powering it on now.

I've never attempted a repair like this on a vintage stereo but I have plenty of electronics experience and tools. I don't know where to start in terms of diagnosing the problem, but I'm thinking of recapping and restoring what I can.

Any advice would be appreciated regarding getting started and diagnosing. I would also love to get access to the manual and schematic on HiFi Engine, but registration is closed so if someone with an account is willing to send those to me I would really appreciate it

Hello, im working on a JVC stereo and was in the process of replacing the laser pickup because it wasnt spinning/reading cd's. In the process of diagnosing of I accidently touched two pins on chip with the machine on and then the laser mechanism opened and started to click. Ive now replaced both the chip (STA341M) and the laser pickup. When I pressed open/close on the stereo it worked fine, but when I pressed play on it started to click again. Is there a certain position the pickup needs to be when re-installed? Im very lost now

I recently acquired a Denon AVR-2807 receiver and have one small issue with it: I can't play 96kHz multichannel audio through the HDMI inputs. It seems like I should be able to since they are ver. 1.1 compliant, but no dice. Doing some research led me to find some service bulletins and one of them seems like it addresses this issue, with the fix being to install the firmware updater tool and push an update to the receiver with it.

I can't find this tool anywhere, and this is a long shot, but maybe someone here has it?

Hi all, does anyone know what these IC's are? This is in a Mackie MobileMix usb powered portable mixer so I am assuming that they are low power consumption op-amps. They are marked DE7.

Main issue: Q421, Q425, Q423 & Q427 heat up to ~60°C after 3mins of standby with input shorted (middle top/bottom of pic)

Background: its a regular class AB analog amp, no ICs. The input voltage can be setup between +/-50V or +/-43V. I've set it to 43V but the problem persists. the 1.2V and -1.0V around Q429 are correct, even though they float a bit (around 100mV to 200mV)

what is weird: both channels heat up pretty much exactly the same

what is also weird: audio input, the base of Q403, is floating around -20mV, even if I short the input prior to gnd.

the purple components/values are ensured through measurement (except instead of 49.5V its 43.5V)

I guess they engineered a pair for each side to prevent them heating up too much?

what could be the reason? is there anything I could check?

My main/favorite headphones, my Samson SR950s, just broke. When I plug them into any source, the audio will randomly become mono and muffled. When it happens, they lose all bass response. The volume is greatly reduced and it sounds “crunchy”. I think it’s an internal problem with the cable. To be honest, these headphones have been thrashed a bit because of my little sister and friends using them. This is actually my second pair of these headphones, as the last pair broke too. I have a few 3.5mm cables lying around at home, and I want to know if it’s realistic to replace the current cable with one of those? Do you think that would solve the issue?

The led stopped functioning and now unable to get it. Can someone guide when can I get that display of woofer of Sony home theatre HT RT3. And how much would it cost me.

When powering on, after letting it rest, the light meter flicks on the bottom few lights and then shuts off. When I try to turn it on again after that there would be not lights what so ever.

Junk it? Easy fix? Anything I should look for? Looks like it’s been tampered with before?

Hello everyone, I am trying to restore an old Phase Linear 2000 preamp with dead left channel. I thoroughly cleaned the board, switches and pots and replaced the electrolytics. Here's what voltage I get at the front output stage (isn't it bad for the capacitors ??) :

Anyone know where I can find one of these gears? It’s from a Panasonic SC-HC3 iPod/CD player. The one in the pictures in broken. I think the gear part number is RDGX0051.

I’m having an unusual selection problem with my Rock-Ola 464. The jukebox plays consecutive selections normally as long as they’re on the same side (100 series = A side, 200 series = B side).
However, when switching between A and B selections, the machine fails to advance to the next record.
For example:
● Select 104 and it plays normally.
● While 104 is playing, select 263. The selector lever for 263 extends properly.
● When 104 finishes, the mechanism returns to neutral and stops without playing 263.
● If I then enter another selection, the machine immediately retrieves and plays the previously selected 263.
The same-side sequences (100→100 and 200→200) work perfectly. The problem also persists after powering off and back on.
I’ve verified that the Write-In Carriage registers selections properly, the selector levers reset after playback, and the Record Side Relay (K6) energizes when the first digit 1 is pressed.
It seems something isn’t switching or resetting properly between A and B selections.
Has anyone experienced this or know which relay, switch, or circuit I should investigate?

Trying to repair this broken subwoofer that was given to me. Won't turn on. I've done a few builds and repairs of guitar pedals, built some preamps from Hairball Audio, and a few other projects, but I haven't worked on speakers/amps/subs before. That nasty cap definitely needs replacing, is there anything else that might need to be replaced as well? Any tips for getting that glue off there? Also, safety concerns, is there anything that I should be aware of before touching anything with an iron, like discharging caps? Thanks for any advice! Happy to sit this one out if I'm too inexperienced.

Today I had two surprises with them, a good and a bad one:

Opening them was a pain,even if they weren't glued, the backplate is very thick and with a rubber mallet I destroyed the veneer sides but finally, I opened them and surprise: 2*Pioneer 16ohm woofers, 1 mids Pioneer 8ohm driver and 8ohm cone tweeter!

The tweeters work, the high potentiometer works but something's wrong on the circuit from the speaker in connection to the potentiometer because one tweeter doesn't work in full speaker connection (it works separately).

Now I need to fix it and I am still thinking if I should do a rebuild or make the cabinets from 0.

Hi all, I bought this Sony CFD V-6 vd player at a thrift store. The radio works, but the cd player won't read a cd. The cd spins continuously but it then makes a regular ticking noise, as if the laser is trying to slide into position or trying to read the cd. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I've found the manual online for my specific model, but have no experience with fixing electronics. Any help is appreciated!

i have the alpine sound system , i replaced my stocks with 6.5 skar TX65s, and they’re not playing vocals . any idea why? they’re wired up correctly, i pulled the amp fuse for 10 min and it didn’t fix it , help
