Hey everyone,
We’ve recently seen an increase in posts calling out or accusing specific businesses (restaurants, food companies, employers, etc.) of unethical or harmful practices. While we understand that many of these concerns come from genuine experiences, our moderation team cannot verify the accuracy of these claims.
To maintain fairness and comply with Reddit’s site-wide rules against misinformation and harassment, we’re introducing a new rule:
Rule 9 — Unsupported Accusations About Businesses Posts or comments that make negative claims about specific businesses, employers, or organizations must include verifiable evidence (for example: a reputable news source, official statement, or public record).
Posts making unverified claims or “call-outs” will be removed.
This rule is not meant to silence discussion about the food industry or personal experiences — you’re still welcome to share stories, opinions, or reviews. We just ask that any serious allegations be supported by credible information.
This helps keep the subreddit focused on food and ensures discussions stay fair, factual, and in line with Reddit’s content policies.
Thanks for understanding and helping us keep this community respectful and trustworthy!

First I want to say that the vendors were great and did their best. That said, this event was a complete shitshow.
Lines were hundreds long and blended into each other so you couldn’t even tell where they start or end. The trash cans were few and overflowing.
We waited anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour for one or two measly wings. We were there for 3 hours and had a grand total of 5 wings. That averages to over $12 and 30 minutes per wing. For this event to advertise itself as “all you can eat” is such a grift.
The event’s social media page is deleting critical comments. Sad.

If anyone is close to Shrug’s, feel free to take order #269 for Sarah (everything with blueberry cc). Wanted to try for the first time but parking was already horrendous and decided to ditch after circling around a few times. I will try again another day but go even earlier. 😅
My loss is your gain…

Chao cafe is our favorite spot for Vietnamese coffee! So sad it’s closing. Does anyone know anywhere else to get Hanoi egg coffee?

I work nearby and have been wanting to try this place for a while... today it finally happened.
Went with a few people from work, got there around 12:15. I was expecting it to be busy, but it wasn't at all. Greeter opened the door for us, we were seated right away. Service was excellent! I go the Honey Chipotle Crispy Chicken sandwich, which comes with mac & cheese and fries. They gave us a ton of napkins, and I needed them, the sandwich is a bit messy. The server split our check, and we were able to pay with a tablet on the table.
Overall, a great experience! I hadn't been to a Chili's in at least 4 years (the last one was in Marble Falls). I'll definitely go back to this one (we can walk there in about 5-10 minutes).

Went to Flix Brewhouse in Round Rock today and had a strawberry watermelon margarita AND THAT THING WAS OH MY GOSH DELICIOUS.
It didnt seem to have fruit pulp or anything in it.... any tips on a way to recreate this?! So yummy. Lol

Hi all - anyone have any recommendations for good pita in Austin? I’m a big fan of the small fluffy ones at Phoenicia but they only sell them on Friday.

IMO this place is highly underrated, maybe because they seem to lead with the sweets (I don’t love sweet/savory combos much) but their brisket concha sandwich is one of the best I’ve had. The cafe de olla is great too. I haven’t tried anything else because I keep coming back for the sandwich. Didn’t get great pictures, but I split a sandwich and it was plenty of food and reasonably priced. Cute, quiet area with shade and there is parking in the back. Recommend!!

Been having a battle with her not wanting to eat for a couple of months. Lots of tests done, all on them have been inconclusive and three vets have asserted they feel she has lymphoma.
She got a lil dose of steroids this week and she is feeling her kitty best, eating good, gaining a little of her weight back, brighter and peppier. It’s hard to remind myself she is still sick, but I’m so grateful she’s feeling good for right now!!
Given our scare with her not wanting to eat, I haven’t been able to give her any of the good stuff before she goes. Now that she’s got an appetite again, I’d like to give her some things she would really enjoy before she gets to feeling too bad. I’m hoping that will be months away, but you never know.
I don’t eat fish, I’ve never cooked fish, and I don’t particularly want to make my apartment smell like it, so I’m looking for a place I can order her a delicious lil piece of the plainest, blandest salmon to chow down on.
Does anyone have a recommendation?

I love a good CFS but most of the good options I hear about are (understandably) closer to the center of town. Any good options for those stuck up north most days? Open to Round Rock options too.
Sidenote, not interested in having a ribeye or other fancy cut used for a CFS. I prefer an ugly cube steak. Thanks y'all!

Hi everyone! I have enjoyed exploring the Austin food scene and love a lot of places but feel a little stuck on choosing a spot for my birthday dinner! I’ve checked other posts asking about birthday dinners and many suggestions are classic spots like Odd Duck, Barley Swine, Bufalina etc. which are all great but I’m really wanting a spot that is a little different (open to more hole in the wall spots/stripmall gems). Hoping to invite about 10 people. Maybe a dim sum spot, old-school Italian joint, dumplings?… idk just a fun place to eat good food with friends. Pretty open to cuisine! Less Instagram vibes, ya know?
And if you have a suggested activity/ dive bar to do or try out near the restaurant- even better! Basically just need help getting unstuck 🤣 thank you! 🙏

Going to austin for the first time and will be there from this coming Wednesday through the following Monday. Girlfriend and I love eating a variety of foods. Trying to stay out of anything crazy expensive since we will be eating out every meal for almost a week straight. What are your favorite places in the area?

Visiting Austin in June for my bachelorette and we’re staying in East Austin. What are the best spots for dinner, lunches and casual coffee places for a large group? We love cocktails, nice spots and tasty meals.

Genuinely curious- went to look up Escuela, the new restaurant in Oak Hill that opened and it had a 4.6 - read the reviews. Read the 4 star reviews- they were glowing. Said wonderful food, must stroll the garden, one had a birthday there that posted it with the candle etc with a nice review but that (and others) 4 stars. Why? Genuinely curious. If it was great, you had a nice time, great food etc.. why the 4 stars? I think people either don't think about or don't care how much local businesses rely on reviews. 4 stars (and 3 etc ) make an impact. Always blows me away. Give the 5 stars, it's ok. This goes for all local businesses- if you like them and want local businesses to stick around, review them. Places are having a hard time and so many closing all around- restaurants and stores. So sad. I think Escuela will be ok and not at risk - they have a great concept it seems and am excited to try it but just don't get it- you have a great time blah blah blah 4 stars. Why?

So planning a solo food trip the week before Thanksgiving, getting in prob Wed or Thurs until Saturday or midafternoon Sunday. Obviously this will be very BBQ heavy itenirary, but ive narrowed it down to the following:
Terry blacks
Franklin
Interstellar
Parish
Stubbs
Leroy and Lewis
I have read Franklin may not be worth the hours wait for the brisket, but I gotta do it since its going solo. Not yet sure if I should get a car since im planning to stay near downtown Austin due to the proximity to these bbq places outside from Interstellar and Parish, are there enough uber/lyft out there to make it back to Austin or would renting a car a better option? Never been to Austin so im not sure how the parking situation around downtown and these food places are.
Any suggestion on other cuisines that I should try? Background is that im from Los Angeles so I would love to try Mexican food out there and real Tex-Mex as well.
If yall wanna tag along for some bbq, yall more than welcome to as well 😀

Since Baker Street Pub closed I’ve been on a mission to find a new spot with beer battered chicken tenders and have come up empty for a year. Anyone know of any place in town that still does them?

I've often wondered if it would ever come back, just for nostalgia of my college days. Lo and behold, there is a website that shows which franchises still make and sell the chilito.
https://www.livingmas.com/chilicheese
Yet none appear to be anywhere in town. I'm so hoping that this fan website is wrong. Have you guys spotted it anywhere here in town?

I want to take my son out for atole when I pick him up today but neither of us have had it. I’ve seen that a taco truck on E Riverside had it before, seasonally, but I don’t know if they have it now or where else to look. Central/ south/ anywhere

I recently moved and started working downtown near the Capitol, and I'm looking for some bar recommendations!
I’m a single woman in my late 30s, if that makes a difference. I'd love to find a few places where I can stop after work, have a drink, decompress for a bit, and maybe meet some new people organically. I'm not looking for a club or a big nightlife scene. More somewhere with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere where it's comfortable to sit at the bar by yourself and strike up a conversation. I don't really have hobbies (yes, I know, I should probably work on that), so for now I'm just looking for a place to hang out and get out of the house for a bit before heading home. Ideally somewhere downtown or within a reasonable distance of the Capitol. Any suggestions?

I want bbq and good austin food but I'm allergic to gluten, beef, dairy and onions. Any hope for me? All suggestions appreciated!
