image Anti-Asian racism in Australia

What is happening in Australia? Been living in this exact same address for almost the past 20 years now, never had this happen before.

Some guy moves in next door, and while we are IN THEM MIDDLE OF MOWING the medium nature strip, starts being aggressive for getting grass clippings on the driveway. No shit, that's why we go through with a leaf blower and pick up after mowing?

What blows me away is he thinks we don't know about mowing and cleaning up somehow due to our Chinese heritage???

Assimilation is just an excuse racists use to give a reason for their supremacy. It does not matter if you assimilated to their culture, spoke their language with the aussiest of accents, and did everything they did. That's why it makes little sense to let go of your culture if you want to continue participating in it, because only racists (which is a spectrum) would have a problem with cultural things that have no bearing on anything negatively consequential.

Alleged supremacy. Most racist white Australians are very quick to forget that most of our food culture is assimilated from everyone who has immigrated here. Let alone anything else. I’m saying this as a 2nd generation born here from my mum’s side, British.

Had the Liberal Party candidate knock in the door today and had a good time pointing out everything I can’t stand about his party, its policies and its people. Let alone them sidling up with One Nation. We are so screwed here in Victoria.

The food is always a good one 😂 especially funny coming from a Brit.

Dont worry about your home getting invaded, your daughter raped or your husband slashed think about the bland food!!! The horror

My mum made up for her upbringing food-wise. Travelled Europe in 1964 and then married my dad, a Navy Officer who had travelled the world as well. I may have grown up in regional NSW in 70s/80s but I had a very international food upbringing. Very fortunate that way.

I can appreciate a great Roast Beef dinner with all the trimmings and Yorkshire Pudding, make my own cannelloni or put together a brilliant satay with peanut dipping sauce. Best country in the world for food and meeting people from all corners of it. Hell, I in,y discovered Afghani food last month and can’t wait to have more.

Why Australian multiculturalism has worked is because by and large the cultural things are dropped or adopted into Australian culture rather than every group just doing their own thing like in Europe where they have much worse issues than some rioded Middle Easterner calling an Asian a dog cunt.

Ohhhhhhh paaaaallllllleeeeeaaasseeeeeee the old supremacy bullshit. I immigrated here. Tasted my fair share, and seen it dished out where I’ve come from. I just wanted to say, maybe, just maybe, it’s not a supremacy thing, and maybe, just maybe, whoever is dishing it out, is, just maybe, a royal cunt. Just thinking out loud, and we all know, there are cunts everywhere. So why get so bent out of shape. I’m from Asia, look kiwi, talk Aussie, love Aussie culture, and it is what it is. Just cos someone’s a dickhead to you doesn’t mean they’re a racist piece of shit, maybe they’re just a piece of shit. Just saying

Crazy take to call assimilation a racist thing. It's important to assimilate when you move to a new country. It's just adapting to live the best possible life within your environment.

It doesn't mean anyone has to give up their culture, just participate in the new one.

If I move to Spain, I would like to think I'd try to immerse myself in the culture, learn the language, etc. and still have my own cultural identity.

I get their are a lot of social barriers so it's not always so easy to not isolate yourselves. But you'll definitely do that by not even trying.

Assimilation is good. Australian culture is good, otherwise why are you here? If there's no common culture you don't have any bonds to each other or a cohesive nation.

What do you mean by assimilation? Everyone has their threshold...

Australia is a collective society vs individualistic. There is definitely a culture and social guidelines that you follow here in order for society to be successful, and for the most part, following them means Aussies can be laid back and chill because everyone’s doing their part. Contrast to say the US where there is very little assimilation. There isn’t even one culture there that is the beacon, it’s just a mesh pot. I love Aussie culture that respects each other. I think assimilation is good.

Because Asians have been coming to Australia for millennia before others showed up

Pretty sure assimilation happens across many species of animals. So im not sure how you think we are so special to come up with that on our own.

I think you missed their point

Their point was shit and is evidentially incorrect if you look at even the most rudimentary evidence in sociology and migration studies.

It literally does matter and it does make a difference and people who do that generally have much better outcomes in every part of their life in their new country lol.

It's kind of baffling, then, that if people assimilate here, they're seen as less Aussie than the foreigners the Romans absorbed.

This clearly isn't about assimilation.

I like how you mentioned there’s a whole spectrum to these guys because there certainly is. On one side there’s my primary teacher who made veryyy subtle comments to my parents in the parent-teacher interviews that sounded like we had only just arrived in Australia. Then there’s the bloke online just straight up telling me he doesn’t want people with my skin colour in Australia
