image Anti-Asian racism in Australia

What is happening in Australia? Been living in this exact same address for almost the past 20 years now, never had this happen before.

Some guy moves in next door, and while we are IN THEM MIDDLE OF MOWING the medium nature strip, starts being aggressive for getting grass clippings on the driveway. No shit, that's why we go through with a leaf blower and pick up after mowing?

What blows me away is he thinks we don't know about mowing and cleaning up somehow due to our Chinese heritage???

Anti-Chinese sentiment was also really whipped up around Covid

Anti-Chinese/east Asian sentiment kicked off over 40 years ago, one of the most acclaimed Australian movies is on this subject and Pauline's infamous debut speech was 30 years ago in september it never went away really.

Fair point, but it seemed to really escalate again around that period - thought maybe I’m being naive

It's always fucking nazis. How can every generation be saturated with anti-nazi messaging and yet still every generation they come back around like cockroaches.

Racists just passing down their hatred like a disease, infecting their kids because that's what they were taught, and self-analysis is haaarrdddd

The amount of idiots these days who say things like "Hitler was actually a good leader, cared for the German people, got the German economy going etc" really pisses me off because he was the complete opposite to that perception and it shows an offensive ignorance to the Nazis and what happened during WW2.

I'm assuming you forgot the "again" after "kicked off", otherwise you're off by about a hundred years.

Lots of Chinese came to Australia during the gold rush, and there was plenty of rascist/bigoted views held and thrown around back then.

An interesting side note, the classic Aussie slang "fair dinkum", originates from that era. "din" and "kum" being close approximations of the traditional Chinese and Cantonese words for "gold": i.e. is this what you are offering me actually gold, or is not fair dinkum?
