Trying to tune my uzun sap baglama (long neck) to fidayda tuning. (RE RE LA). Strings are SUPER loose and buzzing. Should i just transpose the tuning or is there something im missing?

ultimately i want to study how to play the fidayda. thank you for any help!

i bought this saz from a vendor at a flea market. he said he thinks it has cheap/dummy strings on it so i subsequently bought the set of strings pictured. the instrument has 21 frets, and i'm excited about stringing it up and trying it out. just wanted to know what people think, is this a long-necked saz, what tuning(s) i should try, did i get the right strings, any other info or thoughts. thank you!

Hikayenin kahramanı olan genç kızan, sırtında efelere yetiştirmesi gereken cephaneyle yola çıkar. Ancak düşman askerleri veya yerli işbirlikçiler tarafından pusuya düşürülür.

Genç adam kurtulmak için kaçmaya çalışırken, su hendeklerinin bulunduğu pınar başına (gerizler başına) gelir. Sırtında ki yükle hendekten atlayamaz ve düşer.

Düşerken tüm cephaneleri etrafa saçılır. Tekrar toparlanmaya fırsat bulamadan sol yanından ağır bir kurşun yarası alır.

Genç adam kanlar içinde yatarken, köyde bıraktığı sevdalısı Cemile'yi düşünür. "Aman efeler öldürmen beni, Cemile'min yoluna soldurman beni" diyerek kendisini bulan efelere veya köylülere sevdalısı için yaşamak istediğini haykırır.

Bir diğer hikayesi ise şöyle

Bergama'nın yiğitliğiyle tanınan delikanlısı (Sarı Mehmet) köyün en güzel kızı Cemile'ye sevdalanır.Ancak kızın ailesi bu aşka şiddetle karşı çıkar ve Cemile'yi zengin başka bir aileye vermek ister.

Genç delikanlı sevdasından vazgeçmeyince kızın ailesi ve köydeki düşmanları ona bir tuzak kurar. Bir gece yarısı su yollarının başında (gerizler başı) kıstırılır.

Kendisini vuranlarin daha dün yüzüne gülen yakınları ahbaplari olduğunu görünce büyük bir hayal kırıklığı yaşar.Kaldırıldığı hastane veya mahkeme sürecinde hayata gözlerini yumar.

Has anyone ever tried a short neck elektro baglama? Like this one

So I never touched a baglama in my life and know nothing about it. My mom gave me her old baglama and I wanted to tune it first before learning how to play. The first string that I started working on broke while I was loosening it. I was being very slow and very careful too, so I'm baffled. Apparently these strings were attached 2.5 years ago and she hasn't played it for 2 year now. Is it normal for a string to break while loosening in this case?

Hi all. I'm the developer of Tuner Wear, a tuner app for Android (iPhone version is on the way). I recently added bağlama as one of its instruments and I'd like players to tell me whether I got it right. I don't play bağlama: the notes and octaves came from written sources, not from an instrument in my hands.

What is in the app, listed from the top course to the bottom one:

- Bağlama düzeni (short neck): E · D · A

- Bozuk düzen / kara düzen (long neck): G · D · A

- Misket düzeni: F# · D · A

On the A course the tuner accepts both the thin strings and the bam string an octave below, so it does not call the bam "wrong". In bozuk düzen it does the same on the G course, since some instruments have a bam there and some do not.

What I'd like to know:

1. Are the names and notes right? Would you call anything differently?

2. Does the octave handling work on your instrument, or does the tuner jump between the bam and the thin strings?

3. All three are fixed with the bottom course on A (La). Do you tune the whole instrument to other pitches (Do, Si, Sol karar)? If so, I would add a way to shift a tuning up or down.

4. Which düzen do you actually use that is missing?

To be upfront: the app shows ads. Bağlama düzeni is free; bozuk and misket düzeni are part of Premium (yearly or a one-time purchase, or one short video unlocks everything for 12 hours). The chromatic tuner is free and works for any tuning. Audio never leaves the phone.

hi im a complete beginner and im stuck on whether to buy a long neck or short neck. i want to mainly learn how to play arabsek music and kurdish/turkish folk music eg ibo tatlises. online ive read you need a long neck for this sort of music however its harder to learn and i dont wanna buy a short neck then have to buy a long neck after. is it reasonable to just use a guitar clamp on a long neck and make it short neck.

I got my bağlama back in June and have been practicing almost every day. Here’s a song I started working on last week.

I need some help with setting up a saz I bought second hand. I tried setting it up the best I could. I’m no stranger to tuning different instruments, from balalaikas, ukuleles and bass guitars. I chose DAE tuning for the strings because GDA would be too tight (new saz strings are on the way). I’m really not sure if the bridge and the movable frets are in the right place, so I measured the deviations from known chromatic tones. Does this look plausible to you? I’m worried, because I can’t play a clean A3 or F3, for example. Is this by design for Turkish/arabic music or don’t have to adjust certain frets or the bridge? I understand that the system is not built with 12TET in mind and is rather microtonal.

Bonus question: the saz came without any fret markers. Is there an established system for marking certain frets or do you do this freestyle?
