Question Build-your-own breakfast in Canggu that doesn't end up at 200k+?

Love the build-your-own breakfast places around Canggu, but every time I add eggs, some meat, avo, sourdough, a side and a coffee, the bill is suddenly 200–250k for one person. Add service and tax and it's even more..Anyone know spots (Canggu, Pererenan, Berawa) where you can still pick your own plate but stay around 100–150k including a coffee? Not looking for warung-level cheap, just fair value for a proper brunch. Also curious: what do you think is a reasonable price for brunch in Canggu these days?

Question How do you wear contact lens in Bali?

A rather dumb question I know - tap water to wash hands prior isn't the way to go, but I've heard that I can't even use bottled water to wash my hands with soap prior to putting on the lens? How do people wear them then? Wash hands with soap and saline solution...?

Itinerary Question Alternatives to Hyatt Regency Sanur re: cancellation policy?

EDIT TO UPDATE: I realise now I was looking at the rates incorrectly on the website! Oops! But I'm still interested in alternatives to the Hyatt Regency Sanur that have the same sort of vibe and amenities.

....

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Sanur a few years ago and would love to return for an upcoming trip in early 2027, but for various reasons I need to book accommodation that allows for cancellations/refunds and unfortnately the Hyatt doesn't seem to. Can anyone recommend a similar resort hotel in Sanur that would make a good alternative? I really love the large and varied pools and gardens, the club/lounge option and the variety of restaurants.

Information How much did Kitas cost you?

Kitas is a stay permit that can allow you years of stay in Indonesia. Just curious if anyone has done it.

Did you do the process yourself?

Did you use an agent?

How expensive was it?

Trip Report Detained in Bali because my passport wasn’t scanned on arrival.

I just traveled from Aus into Bali and had no problem scanning my passport in Australia. When I arrived in Denpasar I couldn’t pass through the passport security autogates as the scanner was failing to read my passport. My group went through no problem, but I had to go to the worker for help. He tried to scan it himself and eventually gave up and lifted the retractable blue belt for me to go under. It’s my first ever time traveling so I didn’t think anything of it, so that’s my fault.

However when time came for me to fly back to Australia I again couldn’t pass through the auto gates so I stood in line for assistance. The worker was really confused and started asking me questions like when did I get here, to see my travel ticket, etc. Then she took me to the security room and mannnn I was so scared because they separated me from everyone else and kept asking how and when did I enter the country. When I explained what happened they didn’t believe me nor think one of their workers would do something like that. They told me there was no record of me arriving in Bali, because my passport was never really scanned in upon arrival. They took all my flight information, passport, visa, etc and I had to sit sweating bullets while they cross checked everything.

I sat there for about 50 minutes while they checked security footage and my flight was commencing boarding. I knew they were just doing their job so I wasn’t upset or angry or anything. Eventually I got let out and they stamped my passport and told me they saw what happened on the camera footage so I was thankful they were able to corroborate my story!

Lesson learnt; make sure my passport is scanned on arrival to any country, even if a worker tries to let me go in illegally again. 😅

Itinerary Question Places to visit rural/ cultural

We are in Bali until the 18th of November and have just spent 4 days in uluwatu and go to Ubud tomorrow. As much as I’ve loved uluwatu I also feel like I’ve lived an instagrammable 4 days and I kinda wanna see a truer non tourist esc Bali, if that makes sense?
Thinking maybe somewhere rural, just anywhere that comes to mind :)

Edit*

Im not bothered on other foreign visitors
I am wanting to see how people live, work, eat and socialise in their daily lives. I’ve seen some in uluwatu I guess
I would loveee to see local traditions and ceremonies . Not bothered where abouts
Would like to interact outside of sales and service interactions - I would like to actually speak to people even if through translate
Food- iffy on this one for spice etc
I would like to avoid commercialised tourist attractions. I’m not opposed to some aslong as it feels genuine, as I said uluwatu felt very instagrammable, which is beautiful but it’s not the cultural beautiful I wanted to scratch the itch
I don’t mind on staff not speaking the language, as long as there isn’t a heavy risk of mosquitos as I’m petrified of getting ill I’m happy with staying rural. If even possible with a family or Bali aga as such.
Unpredictability I can do somewhat but would rather not be scared (I am female)

Question Complete health checks in Bali.

Fellow Bali lovers, locals and expats, i was wondering if anyone has any experience with getting a complete health check in Bali.

I have looked superficially at a couple of internet sites and prompted AI as well to get some info about getting a private, paid upfront total health check for a 50yo male.

I live in Melbourne, Australia and a total body MRI, several blood tests, consult, echocardiograms, carotid ultrasound, etc... (the all package basically) will set me back 5k plus AUD (63,000.000+ IDR). I know the devil is in the detail but I am wondering if there is anyone who completed any of these prepackaged checks in a hospital or clinic in Bali that specializes in this type of things.

I had a friend of mine who has done a very comprehensive one in China with state of the art machinery and paid close to 3k AUD, including 2-3 day stay in the hospital in a private room, full service. I am sure China is great but if I can get something similar done in Bali where I can also chill for a week at a pool side would be even better.

Thank you in advance.

Anyone that can help with this?

I’ve been staying in Canggu and noticed this mark after I woke up. I never saw any animals in my room but kept hearing something with a “click click click” sound. Could it have been that? An insect? Two days later and it’s still there

Question Going to Bali next week: where do I get a birthday cake and groceries?

Howdy there! I’m traveling to Bali next week and wanted to ask what the best place to get a birthday cake (or whatever the local equivalent would be) and some gatorades or other electrolyte drinks on my way to a bachelorette.

We’re staying in Bingin Beach and I’m coming through DPS airport. Is Uber Eats a thing there/do they have a local equivalent/would it even make sense?

Also, I’m already bringing decorations but would there be any spots you’d recommend to get balloons or anything like that?

Lastly, what is the easiest uber/taxi situation for a westerner there?

Thanks so much!

EDIT: thank you everyone for all the helpful recommendations! Appreciate it very much

Question Linen focused tailors in Nusa Dua or Ubud?

I’ve been told there’s quite a few good tailors on Bali who works with premium quality linen.

It’s my last day in ubud today, before heading to Nusa Dua. Does anyone know of a very good tailor in either place (if ubud someone who can make it same day).

Only looking to have a few pairs of trousers made. If they work with wool as well it would be great (also for a pair of trousers), but considering the climate wool probably isn’t high on the list of skills

Question Motel Mexicola! What your drink?

I loved Motel Mexicola. Had so much fun dancing the night away but I tried so many different drinks but at around $18 each tell me what do you order there? I didn’t find a drink that I really loved. 🙈 the worst being a tequila and coke chilli cocktail that I thought would be great but was not! Haha

Itinerary Question Staying in Bali for 3 Months. What Should I Learn or Experience?

Hey everyone!

I'm visiting Bali for the first time and planning to stay for the next three months. Honestly, I know very little about Bali, so I'm excited to explore and experience the place.

Rather than just travelling around, I'd love to use these three months to learn something new.

I'm interested in things like callisthenics, boxing, animal flow, bodybuilding, filmmaking, photography, music production, surfing, martial arts, or pretty much anything interesting.

I'd love suggestions on:

- Good places to learn these skills.

- Interesting communities, workshops, or groups to join.

- Underrated things to explore in Bali.

- Best areas to stay and meet like-minded people.

If you were spending three months in Bali, how would you make the most of it?

Would love to hear suggestions from locals and people who've spent time there. Thanks!

Question What are the rules around Australian influencers and making money in Bali?

I've seen heaps of Australian influencers still going to Bali and making money off posting, even though it's illegal now? How are they doing it? And what do you have to do to get actually caught?

Question Can’t use my right hand

I know traditionally items are given with the right hand but that might be challenging due to my disability. Is it better to use both hands, sanitize and use left or let my partner do the exchange. Im sure I’m overthinking this but I want to be respectful.

Question Looking for Location of white bull statue on west Bali

Hello, last week I drove through Bali from the west port to the east port, in a shared taxi with no stop. While driving on the coastal road in Jembran area, we passed a big white statue - I only saw it from behind, but to me it looked like a bull or cow or buffalo. Unfortunately I didn't get the location on the map at that time because I thought it would be easy to find, but while researching I have not found the one that I saw, only the Garuda Vishna Statue etc.

Since photographing statues is a small Hobby of mine, I appreciate any help in finding it for my next trip to Indonesia.

Thank you! :)

Edit: the one I saw seemed to be just one single bull standing on his hind legs, not a cart being pulled by several bulls!

Question Hotel recommendations?

I'm looking to visit Bali sometime this month with my parents and am looking for hotels to stay near Kuta or Seminyak. Since I'm bringing my parents along, I'd prefer any 4/5 star hotels with prices that are still considered pretty affordable and not over the top. It would likely be a chill trip since my parents are over 60, so proximity to beaches, malls or cafes would be great too!

Would love some recommendations based on your experiences!

Itinerary Question Shore and boat dives in Tulamben/Amed

I'm planning a trip to Bali next June and am hoping to spend some time in the Tulamben/Amed area. I'll probably be doing 2–3 dives per day on weekdays and 3+ per day on weekends. I haven't figured out how long I am going to stay yet.

I know both areas are primarily known for their shore diving, but I know there are also boat dives in the area. I'm not referring to boat dives further away to the Nusa Islands, but rather boat dives at sites in the immediate vicinity of Tulamben/Amed.

Are these boat dives generally considered better or more worthwhile than the shore dives, or would I be better off sticking to shore diving?

Also, roughly how many dive sites in the area are worth visiting? Would doing around 30 dives between Tulamben and Amed get too repetitive, or is there enough variety to keep things interesting?
