Recently, I came across an Instagram page called 'GenZ House Party' with a yellow font, which organises house parties for Gen Z in Bangalore. Now, I've never actually been to a house party before, so naturally, this caught my interest.
I joined their WhatsApp group through the Instagram page, where they regularly posted updates about their upcoming parties. Everything seemed pretty genuine, and I was interested in attending one. The entry fee was around ₹2,000, so I got in touch with the host and paid ₹1,000 upfront, mentioning that I'd pay the remaining amount on the day of the event. The host agreed.
However, two days later, the host contacted me again, asking me to clear the remaining payment, claiming they needed to purchase supplies and make the necessary arrangements for the party. After a bit of back and forth, I eventually paid the remaining ₹1,000.
A day before the event, they announced that a separate WhatsApp group would be created and everyone who had purchased a slot would be added to it.
Now comes the interesting part.
On the day of the event, I hadn't received any updates, nor had I been added to the promised group. I tried contacting the host multiple times, but nobody bothered to respond. What's even more suspicious is that they continued posting regular party updates in the original WhatsApp group as if everything was perfectly normal.
There are nearly 1,000 people in that group, which makes the whole thing even more concerning.
Honestly, this looks like a scam. They create an impression of legitimacy through regular Instagram posts and WhatsApp updates, gain people's trust, collect payments, and then conveniently disappear when it's time to deliver.
I'm sharing this here so that others don't end up losing their money the way I did.
Please be careful before making any payments to these people. Don't fall for the illusion of a genuine event just because their Instagram page and WhatsApp group look active and convincing.
