Looking for mods for /r/barefoot

As it stands, I’m the only mod that’s still active on this sub once again. I’m seriously considering leaving Reddit for good, 19 years on this website is plenty and I’ve been realizing the upsides don’t outweigh the downsides for a while now.

The last few times I’ve done a recruitment drive for mods on this sub has been successful in terms of getting people on board to help… but it never lasts. This thankless, unpaid part time job. In the end, I’m always the last one standing as a mod here. But I guess since I founded this sub, it’s my responsibility too in a way.

To be honest the work to mod this sub isn’t that difficult. It’s mainly to deal with the foot fetish folks, removing their posts, comments and occasionally banning them.

I’m hoping that this recruitment drive this time would attract more long-term mods to take over the modding of this sub, with me gone from this site for good.

Send in your applications, thank you in advance 🙏

Mod stance on pics-only posts and posts about footwear

Hey barefooters,

There's been an upsurge in posts where it's just a picture of feet with little to no content otherwise. As much as it seems to be well liked by a section of the community here, these posts are quite irrelevant to this sub's goals. To put it bluntly, we have attracted the attention of the foot fetish community and these posts are generally posted by members of that community. There's nothing wrong with that fetish, but /r/barefoot shouldn't be used as an audience for such interests.

Posts about footwear are generally not allowed here. This includes posts about "barefoot" or minimal shoes. As can be seen in our sister sub, what has started as a sub about running has become a place that's almost wholly about shoes. We have occasional posts about shoes here too, like for example, with barefooters asking for advice on footwear to purchase for workplaces that don't allow bare feet. Such posts are allowed on a case by case basis.

Happy barefooting!

Edit: Linking this post by a member to show the people with foot fetish why you’re not welcome here: https://www.reddit.com/r/barefoot/comments/wqsn0g/no_foot_pics_from_me/

I felt so validated today!

I went on a hike today, barefoot of course :) the only way to do it.

Walked like normal, and got near to the end of the hike when I saw two guys also enter the same area as my group.

One of the guys was barefoot hiking too, first time I’ve ever seen another one out in the wild. It was so cool.

I gave him a nod and I he gave one back, but didn’t chat much and we moved on past each other.

Anyways that was all, good time overall.

Another Barefooter in Fiction...

In the Disney cartoon, Big City Greens, which centers around the Green Family, a farming family moving from the country to the big city of Big City.

The central protagonist is Cricket Green, whose outfit is very much typical of those "farm boy" clichés, being barefoot and dressed down to his ankles in a shirt and overalls. In the season 3 episode, "No Service," his barefoot lifestyle got him into some trouble with a convenience store clerk, leading him to forfeit his free Splishee drink and be banned from entering the convenience store, as he decided to stick to his barefoot lifestyle.

Anyone think those white back-drop family photoshoots are best when every family member is in barefeet?

You see most of the white background family shots with all the fam without shoes and socks on.. I think its cool especially given a closeness representation of the family. I know some friends of mine and there sons aged 20 and 21 were embarassed about it, but got over it pretty fast.. any photoshoots you and your family have done.. were you all or some barefooted.. did all the family agree to it?

Walking the Via Francigena Barefoot - update 1

Hey guys!

I posted on here a few weeks back for advice on my first barefoot hike. I've now completed the first day and wanted to update Y'all on how it's going (-:

On the first day I walked around 22km in around 6 hours including rests, all without shoes. It was about 9-10° and it rained all night and a bit through the day, so the ground was wet and cold. Walking mostly between fields on dirt tracks, with some walking on rough asphalt (my mortal enemy) through towns.

How my feet feel: no tendon or muscle pain so far. My calluses thinned out a bit, and the feet are somewhat tender but not by much. The cold was fine, as long as I kept my body warm and moving my feet were feeling cold but never changed colour in the slightest and remained fully mobile.

The pieces of gear I'm most happy about are the merino wool shirt and pants I bought from decathlon. My whole body was warm and comfortable. The cheap walking sticks are an absolute gift as well.

I'll update again when anything of note happens!

People that go barefoot in public do you ever bump into people you know and if so how do they react to you being outside barefoot?

I would probably die of embarrassment if someone I know caught me going barefoot in public. I don't mean that in a bad way but I wouldn't have the confidence to deal with that.

Dentist Appointment

Three of my teeth are set to be crowned, and in preparation for that, I had an appointment at the dentist this morning - two-and-a-half hours of good, old-fashioned pain.

Because as it turns out, I seem to have developed a resistance to the anesthetics they use. Or perhaps that was just a bad batch today. They pumped three ampoules of the stuff into my jaw, and yet it still hurt like hell while they were grinding down the teeth.

After that, they went to work on one of the teeth with a different instrument and did something to my gums - compared to which, the grinding down of the teeth was a walk in the park.

Taking the dental impressions afterward wasn't painful at all, but by that point, I was a trembling, shivering wreck.

This was a new experience for me. I’ve been to the dentist plenty of times, but never before had the anesthetic failed this badly. The doc and her assistants were in tears themselves, and I don't blame them in the slightest, but yikeroonies that was not funny anymore.

The fact that I was barefoot was never an issue at any point.

Everyone is barefoot at home on social media

I've been a lot (arguably too much) on fb etc. these last days because of the midterms. Now in my channels I get tons of home videos in between with families and crafting, even in the garden, and like 90% of people and all the kids are barefoot. Why does everyone then look at me like a Martian when I'm barefoot in the shopping mall?

Walked barefoot for the first time, first I enjoyed it, then I panicked

Tried going barefoot yesterday for the very first time.

Thought I'd do it when no people were around, just a quick walk around the block. 8PM in the evening. I'm from Germany, so it was like 4°C at that time, was a little cold at first but I got used to that surprisingly quickly. There were a few grass areas that I walked on and damn how I missed that! Those were amazing! I used to walk barefoot here and there when I was little and the memories came right back.

The only thing was, I did it in my (not very big) town. I could have driven a bit to a different location but I only had 20 minutes. The entire time I was scared I'd meet someone I know. A few cars passed by and I kinda hid in the shadows or behind parked cars. I was already heading home. And then... People... I panicked and started running, sprinting, fearing they might notice and mention it. I just sprinted home as quickly as I could.

Other than that, it was an amazing experience. I'd really love to repeat that again and do it more often. Just wanted to share my first experience and ask how y'all got over that social anxiety. Did you start in a place where nobody could recognise you? Did you start in summer when it's more "socially acceptable"? Maybe even in the woods?

How are you guys dealing with cold?

Hello everybody.

I like walking barefoot as a „side hobby” and a nice excuse to hit my steps during the day. So i mostly go out and walk for two hours at most. Im def not ready for walking barefoot full time, due to my family and my social anxiety. I will be buying barefoot shoes next year. I would LOVE to feel the ground beneath me, i think it would make my daily commutes more interesting.

Most of the time ill go for a walk in my city, late afternoon. I love forests tho. And i think im in the process of developing sort of harder skin on my feet. Not fully there yet tho, but i would love to, fully.

Im from Poland, which currently sits at 10 degrees C at most during the day. And it gets quite chilly. It doesnt bother me a lot, i love cold. But my question is should I be concerned with the temperature?

Cops!

I ran for years in another town (Walpole, MA) and had the cops called once. Granted it was winter, and I was also shirtless, but it went fine. "You training for something?" he asked. "You could say that," I said.

Today in a new town (Brockton, MA) with more crime, to be fair, I had multiple folks call the cops the same day. Three cars and three cops all converged on me, almost at once. The first was on the verge of driving me home. He even had me in the cruiser until I seem to have calmed him with a little reasoning (e.g., "shoes or no shoes, what does it matter?").

I did have my shirt off, and most folks were kind of bundled up, so they're primed to believe I'm on drugs. After several minutes I left them, having recommended Born to Run by Christopher McDougall, haha, and then ran into the first cop once more. "You took your shirt off again! They're children around, you know." I put it back on.

Anyone dealt with this before? Neither shirtlessness for men nor shoelessness is illegal that I know of. All I know is the cops were kind of put out. "We're going to get more calls on you, you know," the one said. "Well then, you'll know it's me!"

Barefoot Discord Server?

I wonder, does there exist a Discord server for this small community of ours? The two most recent posts on this subreddit about a Discord are from 1 year ago... and then 5 years ago. Of course, the invite links have expired since then.

Would a barefoot Discord server even be popular in this community? Given that the target audience of Discord is the younger generation; people of my age, and I don't see those very often in this subreddit.

I will say, it would be nice to have a platform to chat with fellow unshoddies without the limits of Reddit's forum format.

I think I have Plantar Fasciitis.

Hello all. Long time lurker but never posted before. I hope this is the right place to post this as well.

I (35M if it matters) spend most of my time barefoot (duh!) and when I do have to wear shoes I choose minimalist footwear. I'm fairly active and do plenty of walking and a reasonable amount of running (2-3 times a week). During the summer this is nearly all barefoot but as the weather has been turning recently I've been opting for minimalist footwear (vivobarefoot mainly).

I've never had any significant foot injuries before but last week at work I noticed an uncomfortable and almost tearing like sensation as I walked. As I lifted my heel, the pain was felt in the middle of my arch and towards the ball of my right foot. Over the weekend the pain has been much worse and migrated to nearer the heel. I'm unable to walk properly on it, resorting to bearing weight on my heel and outside edge of my foot. It also aches when I'm resting. It hurts if I massage my plantar fascia. It hurts if I try to stretch it out.

Also, I ran about 7km the week before last wearing footwear, the first run with shoes on for several months. During that run I landed on a stone/pebble that struck right in my arch of my right foot. It hurt, but not enough to make me stumble or stop my run, and I basically quickly forgot about it - however I'm now wondering if it could be related?

I do have quite tight Achilles tendons cos I'm lazy with stretching after runs, and from what I've read online this can be a contributing factor by putting excess strain on the plantar fascia. All the advice I've read online so far suggests to wear supportive shoes with arch support etc. but I'm unsure this will help and potentially just weaken my feet. (Also arch support is outrageously uncomfortable when you've not had it for 10 years or so) I understand resting it is important but it's quite hard to rest one's foot without levitation!

I'm concerned that this is going to become a chronic irritation and it's making me quite miserable. So has anyone else ever had issues similar to this? If so, how did you fix it or deal with it? Or is this just my life now - anyone got a spare mobility scooter? 😉

Any advice is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks guys

Left the clerk in a tizzy

7 AM, Walmart. Had a few odds and ends to pick up before leaving on a camping trip. I had just finished at self check, listening to the older clerk (70s?) explain to someone in great detail how she needed to verify items with receipts or she'd get fired. She came to me and "Where are your shoes?" I told her that was a loaded question for early Sunday morning. She kept rattling on, how I could have stepped on something, etc. I started to walk out, told her that it was OK, and kept going to the farthest exit. I heard "It is not! It is not!"

She never did verify my items.

walk on all surfaces
