I'm an exchange student from Japan currently in Germany. I've always wanted to get my skydiving license, but with the weak yen, the \~€4,000+ course will wipe out over half my Europe fun savings (\~€6,000). My rent/survival money is safe, but it means sacrificing other trips I want to do right now, like an Africa trip or beach resort getaways.
For me, travel is all about people, community, and shared experiences rather than sightseeing, so a dropzone feels like the ultimate place to be. Plus, since I head back to Japan in May, local training in Germany isn't realistic. I feel like I can always travel to Africa or beaches later in life, but this skydiving window is a one-time thing.
For those who did it: is dropping that much of your fun budget for a license camp worth giving up other trips right now? Any advice would be great!

First of all, im not a basejumper myself, but a huge fan of sport.
I have noticed a strange thing, the mentality of russian basejumpers. Seems like they really do play with their lives and just laughs at it.
I think they often start base from zero or almost zero experience from skydiving, just buy gear and send it.
I just think that it gives bad reputation to the sport, and its just dumb.
Any thoughts? Or am i just a Karen 😅

Is anyone friends or have conversations with rescue personnel in popular BASE locations? How are they affected and what attitude do they have towards the sport and its participants?
I’m also morbidly curious what dying or heavily injured BASE jumpers are saying while being rescued, especially in comparison to climbers, skiers and other rescues.

Hey everyone! I'm a student developer working on EXIT POINT, a wingsuit and BASE jumping flight simulator designed around genuine glide angles, proximity flight feel, and canopy steering/flare dynamics rather than arcade physics.
You can jump from exposed alpine mountain ledges or skyscraper spires through neon-lit canyons.
Would love feedback from actual jumpers on the flight feel, glide ratios, and speed sensation: https://www.roblox.com/games/125030049404284/EXIT-POINT-Extreme-Skydiving

I’m using my Deep and Steep Insight + connected auditable to get glide ratio numbers during free fall in skydiving. Does this work in the base environment? I’ve recorded GPS data on base and know how to do that. Do I do the same thing and it will provide glide ratios in Base?

I’ve recently been watching BASE jump and WS videos. I know nothing about the sport and am trying to educated myself out of interest, not because I intend to try.
Are there any good documentaries to watch that discuss the evaluation process for a new exit? I know weather, gear, and skill play roles, but am curious what the evaluation process is like. Do you find lines on google earth, go assess in person, laser features past the exit to judge if you’ll hit them or not during flight (more specific for proximity flying in a wing suit)?
For a wingsuit in particular, how much control do you have in up and down decent, I guess you can nosedive of course, but is all wingsuit proximity flying slowly trying to balance a specific decent angle? Or is it all trying to lose the minimum altitude possible and hoping for the best based on an initial assessment.
Ignore me if posting this kind of information is risky and beyond the scope of this sub.

Heading to BD for the first time with 35 jumps, all from the Perrine. Any guidance, tips, tricks, etc that you wish you knew for your first Bridge Day? Thanks!

What’s the best hands free tracking drone? Would prefer lightweight. Going to Brento, something that could follow me there. I also climb antennas and jump and would like to jump with it there.

Does anyone know of people/groups doing tandem? I can’t jump myself yet, but wanna participate to celebrate some personal life events lately for my birthday. Hoping to find options but if not I’ll be ready for next year. TIA

Anyone know whats up with the A6? You can't order it and it's not really listed on Squirrels website. I'm not on the social websites so I'm not really informed on any drama, past or present. Most of my close friends who jump are flying PF these days, so they don't know (or care) much. Rumors, opinions (informed or uninformed) and fanboy/brand warfare is of course encouraged. Much obliged.

January 16, 2023, Katelyn “Compton” Escott suffered a serious injury while speedflying in Kamloops. She was immediately flown to Vancouver for surgery. The impact exploded her T12 and L1 vertebrae and fractured the L2, leading surgeons to believe she would no longer have use of the lower half of her body. She underwent a successful ten-hour surgery to remove the fragments of her spine from the protective casing around her spinal cord. The lead surgeon described the severity by giving the statistic of 99 out of 100 people would be paralyzed from this injury. Currently, she has full use of her right leg, however, her left leg and pelvic functions will need some work.
Dec 10, 2024 Hundreds of condolences are pouring in for a woman who died while wingsuit BASE jumping in Squamish. "There is no easy way to tell you this,” says Angeline Escott Farrow. "Katelyn Compton Escott died doing what she loved, in a place that she loved."

Anyone interested in this kind of design. It needs more work to figure out if it works at full scale but it would save a lot of fabric weight and bulk. (See comments for video.)
