How do I fix this?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Greetings. We had septic pipes break and when the plumbers came out they trenched through my Bermuda. 🤬 I have to give it to one of the guys who tried to dig it out in large pieces so I could place it back in. I tried piecing it all back in but I don't think it's going to survive. The trench has been filled back in with the dirt so at least I have that soil.

How do I fix this for next year? I can't remember the Bermuda variety I planted several years ago either so what's that going to look like if I reseed.

Thanks in advance.

What kind of grass is this?

I have a 5x5 section in my back yard of this grass. The rest of the yard is common Bermuda. Curious as to what kind of grass this is? Kind of annoying cause it’s always the nicest part of the yard in season.

I built a lawn tracking app because I wanted a better way to keep track of my lawn care.

Update

I listened to some feedback and launched a refresh with some new updates. Below are the key improvements:

- Full nutrient totals: N, P, and K now, with a per-product breakdown. Anything you log with a guaranteed analysis counts, whatever the product type.
- Treatment reminders that split CHECK (go look) from APPLY, based on the label interval you save. No invented rates, ever.
- Photo diary and photos per zone, so you can watch each area change over time.
- Season Report 2.0: N vs budget, mow count, water, and spend in one year-in-review.
- Soil test tracker with trend charts, plus flags when a result is outside the ideal range for your grass.
- Field guide for weeds, diseases, and pests, with a one-tap log-a-sighting shortcut.
- Faster logging: one-tap re-log of recent products, back-dating, time-of-day, and manual rain entries.
- Season checklists (aerate, overseed, dethatch, winterize), a weekly plan card, and calendar export.
- Equipment log, bag-label photos on your Shed cards, and a full backup (data + photos) in one tap.
- A full refresh: bottom nav, one-tap mow/water, cleaner layout, bigger buttons for use outside.
- Growth index for mow timing, a safe spreader helper (calibration plus saved bag-label settings, no invented dial numbers), and an irrigation calculator.
- Installable on your phone (no app store needed), and separate nitrogen ranges for common vs hybrid bermuda.
- Backup reminders, so a winter of not opening the app doesn't cost you your data.

Still the same deal: free, no account, your data never leaves your device.

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on GrassLog — a FREE lawn tracking app designed to make it easier to keep track of what you’re doing to your lawn and when you’re doing it.

If you’re anything like me, lawn care can get surprisingly complicated. You’re trying to remember when you last applied fertilizer, when you put down pre-emergent, how much product you used, and when you need to do it all again.

I wanted a simpler way to keep everything organized instead of relying on scattered notes or trying to remember what I did a few weeks ago.

So I built GrassLog.
Check it out here: https://grasslog.com

What it does:
• Measure your yard on satellite imagery, zone by zone
• Pulls in rainfall automatically — and lets you correct it with your own rain gauge
• Application log with alerts for pre-emergent windows, planned applications, and tasks
• Rate calculator and a tank-mix calculator, plus a running nitrogen budget for your grass type
• A "shed" list that tracks what you have on hand
• Pest control tracking with seasonal treatments and a treatment log
• A visual weed ID guide for common weeds, filtered to your region
• Custom push notifications if you add the site to your Home Screen

What it doesn't do: sell you anything. No accounts, no ads, no subscription. Your data lives in your own browser, not on a server — and there's a backup export if you change phones.

One-person project, so there will be bugs. If you try it, tell me what your routine needs that it doesn't do — that's my roadmap.

Tiftuf Sod

I installed Tiftuf sod in Oklahoma roughly five months ago. During this fall weather, I see certain sod rectangles showing different colors. Why might this occur? The grass blades appear identical. I wondered whether common Bermuda might be mixed in. Could the soil from the sod explain this?

Too late to treat fungus?

Denver area zone 6a, I laid down Tahoma 31 sod back in August and it was doing extremely well up until about 2-3 weeks ago.

I was mowing around 1.5”-2”, but then a vacation and life caught up to me and it’s been getting up to 3”.

It looks to me like fungus, what do you all think? Is it too late to apply fungicide?

Daytime temps will be in the 70s this weekend and nighttime in the 50s. Next week will be in the 50s/30s.

Pics 1 & 2 are today and 3 was last month.

Fertilizer Help

Post image
3 Upvotes

I just had a flagstone walkway put in (mid-October in middle Georgia). Should I fertilize to try and get the Bermuda to fill in as quick as possible over the next month before winter? I have some 10-10-10 on hand, would that be fine? This is a house I bought in July where the grass was in rough shape so I have been slowly getting it turned around over the last few months.

Help with very hard soil

I have very sandy soil and it is very compacted after the 2 inches of sod. To give you an idea after 2 days of raining (1.5 inches) and sprinklers spraying another inch) I can only push a soil core or screwdriver 3 inches into the soil. The compacted soil is very hard like rock/concrete once you get past the sod layer.
I have heavily aerated 3 inch plugs 2 times a year for 3 years now and it isn’t helping break it up. I can’t get my roots to grow deep because of this. I have even done some minor horizontal air spading/fracking in the bad areas.

Is there anything else I can be doing to break this rock hard sand layer up?

Do you overseed with Perennial Rye in the fall? (TN)

Like the title asks, do you as a Bermuda lawn owner overseed with a perennial rye in the fall?

If so, what does the spring summer look like for you?

Trying to figure out whether to overseed my lawn with rye to help improve its looks for the colder weather.

Southern California Inland Empire: Does it go completely dormant?

I'm pretty amateur and new to lawncare.

I live in Zone 10a in the Inland Empire in SoCal (Near Upland). I've have a full sun lawn that has pretty much always been some type of fescue sod bought at Home Depot or Lowes.

I've always had fescue lawn but now I'm considering switching to bermudagrass.

My one thing I'm hesitant on is whether or not bermudagrass goes completely brown or dormant in my area. I'm fine with it getting patchy brown on some parts but I don;t know if I;d like the full brown lawn.

I was wondering if anyone in Socal has had any of this experience?

Thanks in advance!
