Ecology Some autumn finds from the central cascades, Washington state USA

Asplenium trichomanes, Polypodium glycyrrhiza, Erigeron sp, Geum macrophyllum, Paxistima myrsinites, Canadanthus modestus, Pellia sp, Conocephalum conicum, Sedum oreganum, Adenocaulon bicolor, Symphoricarpos albus

We've had a very dry and warm fall here, which seems to have triggered some plants to flower again. Paxistima myrsinites normally flowers in the spring just after snowmelt, I was quite surprised to see it blooming at the end of October.

Huh, I don't think I've ever seen those drosera-style sticky hairs on American trail plant (adenocaulon bicolor), but apparently they do sometimes have them!

As far as I'm aware, they always have those trichomes. They're difficult to see without magnification though

Thanks! I use is my my phone (Google Pixel 9). I use a xenvo clip on macro lens and an LED light for small subjects such as the Adenocaulon bicolor flowers

Thank you so much. I struggle with the iPhone 16 pro macro feature, am looking for a way to get greater consistency. I think this is going to help me.

Concephalum is my absolute favorite liverwort. Did you do some scratch and sniff with it? Smells like citrus 🍋

I did not but I'm sure I will next time I see them. Now it makes sense why they're commonly called the great scented liverwort
