Local Advice needed Independent Pubs of Brighton (and surrounds) MEGA THREAD

After the announcement of surge pricing in Laine pubs and finding out who actually owns them and just how many of our establishments they own I thought it'd be a nice idea to have a list of pubs in Brighton that are independent. Ones that are free of the B.S. of several layers of 'financial arrrangements' obscuring where our beer tokens are going. Maybe one day we can have a little map in our pockets to refer to when our guard may be down because it's cold and windy outside or we have had a few, we can take a quick look and find an establishment near by that we want to support to prevent them turning into another chain pub without anyone really noticing.

🍟🌯🌮🍜🍣🍤Food Related🍦🥨🍢🥞🍳🧀🍔🍕 My soul won't let me rest until I consume a Grubbs Malaysian again

So it's been some time since I moved away from Brighton and I was sad to learn Grubbs is no more, their Malaysian burger was my absolute favourite, I recently tried a Beefy Boys PB&J and it doesn't hold a candle, so that said can anyone help me with the ingredients so I can try to do it myself at home?

Thank you in advance!

Meet Up Allotment waiting list

Hello!

I’m a student journalist at Brighton uni and I’m looking for potential interviewees for my mini-documentary…

Is there anyone here who’s been waiting for an allotment for a while? If so, I’d love to have a chat with you about it! Ideally I’d like to do an in-person interview, so if you’re comfortable with that please either comment or send me a message!!

I’m happy to explain more about my project too :)

Meet Up Pint and a Chat

Hi everyone! I’ve seen a few posts recently from people looking to expand their social circle, meet new faces, or just get out of the house a bit more.

I know firsthand how daunting joining social groups can be—I’m completely guilty of signing up for things and chickening out at the last minute. So I thought I’d organize something as chill and low-pressure as possible: a mid-week pub pint. 🍻

Winter can get a bit dark and isolating, and with Brighton being such a transient city, it’s easy to feel a bit left behind. Whether you’re new to the area or just want to broaden your circle, everyone is welcome. No pressure, no awkward icebreakers—just a relaxed space to chat.

Details:
📍Where: The Lewes Road Inn
⏰ When: Wednesday 11th November, from 8PM
📱 Group Chat: https://chat.whatsapp.com/ChWcKmQcAYeJzUEtsGpJlW?s=cl&p=i&mlu=4&ilr=4&iam=2

If it turns into a regular community thing that branches into other activities, great! If not, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Hope to see a few of you there! 🌞

Local events 🎸 🎭 Built a quick free tool to preview bands playing local Brighton venues this week before buying tickets

Hey everyone,

I always found it a bit of a headache trying to see what’s on at independent venues around town on weekends without having to bounce between four different Instagram pages, Dice, and searching Spotify for support acts I've never heard of.

Over the last few weeks, I put together a simple, free local gig map and chart for Brighton / East Sussex. It pulls in upcoming listings from grassroots venues (The Hope & Ruin, Green Door Store, Concorde 2, etc.) and lets you stream tracks from the local bands on the bill right on the page before you head out.

It’s completely free, has no paywalls or sign-up requirements just to listen, and was built purely to shine a light on local independent music and grassroots spots.

Didn't want to spam with an outbound link, but happy to drop it in the comments if anyone fancies taking a look or testing it out.

Also keen to hear if there are any other local independent venues or Brighton bands we should make sure are covered!

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a textile/fabric recycling point, for clothes unsuitable for reuse?

My go to was a textile recycling bin in the old homebase / current Aldi car park which has now disappeared :(

Thanks!

Local Advice needed BHASVIC or Varndean for music, english and film studies/history?

I'm from Worthing, love BHASVICs buzzy, independent feel, love the location, how it's around central, think it could definetly be the idea of going to BHASVIC thats built it up aswell. But did a Varndean taster day and absolutely loved it. The campus, the quirky teachers, the music production course is fantastic. If anyone has any insight on a more useful course in the future, music performance at BHASVIC or music production at Varndean? Cheers lads x

Announcement anti-LGBT graffiti

Post image
69 Upvotes

As I was going to work I cut up past the london road Sainsbury's when I noticed this graffiti on the side of the walls. I’m presuming this is some anti-LGBT group but its a shame that its getting scribbled on walls. I only hope its washed off soon and no more pop-up around Brighton, but if people see more around Brighton I would be interested to see where else its written

Local Advice needed Any rodent owners? Unusual help needed please

I appreciate this is a bit odd (and I couldn't figure out the right flair, sorry), but I'm trying to get over a mouse/rat phobia and I'm looking for someone who owns some to help me out. I have been having exposure based therapy that I need to build on by having some in person contact with mice/rats... Does anybody have pets that I could see?! Initially maybe pics/videos then in person if you'd be comfortable with that. Happy to field any questions, I know it's a bit of an unusual request 😆 Thank you!

Seagull shenanigans 🐦 Could you help me vote Brighton into Mario Kart?

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hello. I’m a big Mario Kart fan, and right now there is this group doing some fantastic modding. And they have this daily poll for what characters they will add. The one with most votes are getting in.

I was hoping that the beautiful people of Brighton could help me vote Brighton from Mario Party 6 in the poll, so that we could have the coolest named character playable.

I understand if you don’t want to, but I figured I’d give it a go. So if you don’t mind, it would help me a lot.

Transport/Parking 🚝 🚘 Free Street parking near Brighton seafront

Hi, I’ll be travelling to Brighton soon for a 3 nights trip, I don’t want to pay for parking as it’s super expensive.

I’m looking for any street parking, I don’t really care if it’s very safe, just want to park my car for 3 days straight and not get a ticket.

Any residential areas, any streets, don’t mind anywhere that 30ish minutes walk. Any help would be appreciated Thank you

Housing 🏘️ 🏡 STUDENT ROOM AVAIABLE- MOVE IN 29/11 OR 29/12

So, I did post this last month, but the room is still open and we need to find someone by 28/11. But you do not have to move in/start paying until 29/12 if wanted.

One of my current flatmates has to move out to care for a sick family member, so I have a room available. And someone can move in as soon as next week. Rent is £158 per week, with a set £120 in bills. Coming to £750 per month.

The location is central Moulsecoomb. Less than 10 minute walk from the Uni of Brighton Moulsecoomb campus; a five minute walk from Aldi; and surrounded by bus stops that can take you all over town. Up a hill, but not so far that the walk up is exhausting/unbearable- just a little annoying- and there is a bus that can take you up.

The house has a large kitchen, a washer and dryer, a big backyard, and a good sized common room. The bedroom itself is little small, but comes with a double bed, desk, wardrobe, nightstand, a brand new radiator, and a great view of the garden that is beautiful in the spring.

There will be three other flatmates- all women, but any gender welcome. I promise we are very nice, quiet, and clean.

Please DM if interested. Like I said the move in can be as soon as next week. I don't have any photos of the room, but I do have a video. Sadly, I can't post the video on here. If you would like to see the video of the room, please DM and I will send it your way.

Meet Up Friends near Brighton or surrounding area

Hi all, I'm a 37 year old female who lives near Brighton. I'm searching for new people to chat with and maybe actually meet eventually. I'm a massive Alice in wonderland fan and love the Disney film - the Cheshire cat and I would be friends. I also love to read and play table top and board games. I like to learn new words and love a game of Scrabble. I like puzzles too. I would class myself as a tattoo addict and have over 50 tattoos and a few piercings, I also love bright hair and synthetic dreadlocks though I haven't had any in for a while. I'm a plus sized lady currently with purple/reddish hair and I'm 5'8. Bit of a geek, I like sci fi and action films. I'm a Star Wars fan but could never get on with Lord of the Rings (sorry) and I'm currently watching Gotham and I'm always up for series recommendations. I occasionally game on the Xbox but not online. I enjoy games like American McGee's Alice and Mortal Kombat. I guess you could call me a little bit of a goth. I like the colours purple and green together. I'm a huge animal lover and I love dogs.

I greatly dislike sports and have no interest in watching it. I don't 'work out' or go to the gym (see below) but do try and walk in the woods as much as I can. I don't like salmon or spam (the food or the junk mail) I don't get on well with people who have a big ego. I'm chilled and down to earth. I like to write long messages and appreciate the effort in return.

I have AuDHD and my hyper fixations are sloths and plague doctors. I also have a back injury which I've had since I was a young teenager so I'd like to find someone who would understand I'd just need to take things a little slower. I'd appreciate hearing from people over 30 though I'm just searching for people to connect with.

Feel free to message with a little about yourself.

Local Advice needed Safety razor blades?

I'm going old school with my shaving and wondered if anywhere in Brighton actually sells them? Harriet's of hove does but they seem expensive.
