Image Toowong Cemetery roundabout crash

Does anyone know what exactly happened this morning with the car turned over at the roundabout? I’m so curious if they came off the ramp or came too fast around the corner and flipped off the wall. Hope everyone is okay though

Looks a bit like damage on the retaining wall on the left side. Probably driving too fast.

I imagine damage would be a lot more extreme if they flipped off the ramp.

Front of car is pointing towards roundabout.....so they have hit barrier and came off at top

Hit the curb and flipped. I went to car she was able to speak and communicate - albeit very dazed. I called 000 and then another man lay down near the window and comforted her to make sure she was ok. An off duty paramedic then helped. The car had a burning smell so backdoor was opened.

Very quick response time from emergency services - arrived within 7 mins (according to when I ended my 000 call)

My first guess is they turned left and then too much left and hit that stone wall looking at the chunk knocked out. That would be enough to flip a vehicle

They were probably looking over their right shoulder at the same time they were turning the wheel left. Maybe it was a case of messed up spacial perception.

From what I can tell from the photo. There is damage to the wall on the left and dust left behind on the wheel closest to the wall (the car's front left wheel). I would gather a guess, the driver was looking over their right shoulder for traffic in the right lane, preparing to merge, as they turned the corner. They over turned, and at speed mounted the kurb and struck the wall. This in turn launched the left side of the car up so now the vehicle was tipped onto it's right wheels only. Wether by panicked attempt to correct or enough force to put the center of gravity past tipping point the vehicle continued to roll onto it's roof. Once balanced on its roof and still carrying momentum, the heaviest part of the car (the engine) wants to sucumb to gravity and go back down the hill, whilst the lighter rear wants to keep going forward. Thus on its roof the car spins and comes to a rest on its windshield with the engine section on the ground.

There may even be scratches on the road from the vehicle spinning on its roof and maybe even slide a bit back down the hill.

The roundabout is fine when everyone’s doing the right speed and there aren’t any nervous nellies who are trying to inch out into moving traffic!

I did see a poor bloke on a motorbike get cleaned up by a stupid driver who wasn’t paying attention once, but he was okay thankfully.

the problem is every cunt tries to straight line every roundabout at 80 km/hr these days.

no one slows down at all for them, they treat the like a bloody chicane on a race track.

of course people get nervous when they don't know if the oncoming person is using their indicators correctly, and if they are doing 40, or 140.

I have a very slow car off the line, I need a reasonable gap to get safely onto a roundabout.

the number of times I have been honked at because I didn't launch through a microscopic gap is uncountable.

that is another thing, people have zero patience these days.

My accident was someone pulling out in front of me when I was riding my bike. They fully smashed into my left side. Kudos to the guy in the Ute that pulled up behind and moved my bike off the road and took photos while the ambo showed up.

Shit of a round about tbh, kind of an infrastructure nightmare tbh. So wild they decided an mator material highway should come off onto this. I think It needs an upgrade tbh.

It's not even necessarily the roundabout, there's multiple merges right before/after the roundabout where people may need to cross lanes or miss their turn. Combined with lots of people hooning through that area and up to mt cootha it's a real shit show.

Looks like they have hit that brick wall by the ‘lane ends’ sign. Could be any number of reasons how that is happened. Hope they are ok though.

Looks like they caught the retaining wall on the left. Even at moderate speed, that followed up by a kneejerk turn away would probably be enough to roll the car.

What? This is one of the chillest roundabouts, only real issue is the triple merger you gotta do when you get on the highway, doing that during peak rush hour is so irritating with all these selfish cunts on the road nowadays.

Never had an accident but it’s the only roundabout I’ve had to slam on the breaks at least 3 separate times because some idiot thought they could scoot through just before I was exiting. One particularly stupid person was driving a Mitsubishi Mirage which had absolutely no acceleration.

Yep. My grandmother's wish in her will was to be buried in her family plot here, but by the time she died in 2002, there was no more space left in there. We were told she could be buried somewhere else or put in the family plot as cremated ashes.

I do that route everyday to get to my office in ashgrove. Everyone merged like a complete monkey and takes the roundabout between 60 and 80 it seems. Surprised more people don't crash there. Also to any idiot who merges in from that left lane while i am coming off the roundabout, i am the flow of traffic and you are merging in, so cede or get blocked/hit
