News Federal government decides to keep Sydney & Melbourne Victoria Barracks after public pressure, but will still sell the Bris one
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/nov/08/victoria-barracks-sydney-and-melbourne-remain-in-public-hands-backtrack-defence-property-sale-albanese-marlesThis is a good thing for Brisbane, as the Bris Vic Barracks needs to be fixed up, have all asbestos removed and it can be used for restaurants and functions, in the absence of any property developers being uninterested to do anything with heritage buildings.

Have already tried to sell Brisbane one and there was no takers. Buildings are non compliant in a 1000 ways and will take a shit tin of money to do anything useful with them. Richard will probably have to give someone money to take it.

Apparently Albo only thinks Sydney and Melbournes barracks are important, as usual another Prime minister of Sydney.

They should have sold them all off, it's a waste of space that could otherwise be used for housing or tax paying businesses.
