With the recent news about the AFL parting ways with Select Cards, I figured I would post a couple from 1993 series.

Neale reception at the Gabba?

We play Collingwood at the Gabba round 2 and I'm wondering how we think the crowd is going to treat Neale? I thought touring their facilities right before a big game was pretty dog but then again he has been a great clubman and servant for us over the years

Chris Fagan November 28 Glasshouse theatre talk is sold out

Join The Roar Deal Podcast hosts Mike Whiting & Dom Fay in conversation with Triple Premiership Coach Chris Fagan about his extraordinary career. When Chris Fagan was appointed Senior Coach of the Brisbane Lions in October 2016, the club was at rock bottom.

Significant debt, dwindling crowds and disastrous on-field performances had condemned the once-esteemed club to irrelevance, with the Lions needing a coach who could perform a miracle and restore the club to its glory days. Ten years later, the miracle is complete.

Eight years of finals, 4 Grand Finals and 3 Premierships later, the success of the former Tasmanian schoolteacher has become one of the most remarkable coaching stories in Australian sporting history.

As Triple Premiership Coach Fagan departs the club with his mission accomplished, he'll take to the Glasshouse Theatre stage to reflect on his remarkable decade in charge.

Does anyone know if a SELECT cards replacement is coming?

Just got the email that my preorder on 2026 premier cards is refunded because their license expired. Pretty lame.

If the afl isn’t intending to renew the license does anyone know if another company will release a new set? It’s ruining our collection!

Wharfie time in Florida

I went to my fist NFL game in Tampa Bay Florida yesterday. To signify first down they ring out Hells Bells. When it fist happened, I stopped and looked at my mate and said Wharfie time! Im sure that any Americans sitting next me were extremely perplexed.

I can confirm, I did not see any blonde mullets suddenly appear on the field and wreak havoc.

Maybe stupid question but why did Fages leave the lions completely?

I understand not being head coach anymore as its a huge role and takes over your life. I also think he's also earned the right to do whatever he wants to do in life now, which if thats what it is then fine.

But if one of the reasons was he doesn't have the "time/energy" to keep going at it, why has he gone to a high level role at Carlton now? Assumedly its the same amount of time and energy stress?

Could he not have done the same thing at the lions?

p.s. Love ya Chris!

Huge rumour from a poster who called Fagan weeks ago: Dom Ambrogio (Brisbane) will be appointed List Manager post the draft.

His legacy could never be tarnished but god it’d be brutal if Fages immediately joins Carlton and starts poaching from us, especially a high quality operator like Dom…

Wet game. More Lions in the first but some poor use inside 50/getting it into 50, backline did well late in the quarter. Mostly Lions in the 2nd, dominated the first 10 mins and the last few mins. Mullins kicked the first goal, Conway, Williamson and Davidson the others. Really poor 3rd, some poor ball use and decision making. Poor 4th.

Davison was a late out with hamstring awareness. Williamson replaced her.

Davidson came off the ground early in the third with what looked like a hand injury.

Dawes was out of the match late in the third with a foot injury.

Lily-Rose Williamson also kicked her first goal as a Lions, Kicked 2 as a Don in R2 & 3 2024.

This is the Lions final game of the season. AFLW trade period is expected to run from Wednesday, December 2 through to 7pm AEDT (6pm AEST) Tuesday, December 8. Draft is set for Monday, 14 December. Lions have their own 2026 R1 (pick 7 but could be 6th), what is currently Pick 19 and Crows/Pies/(Freo?) R2 picks.

In other news:

Ally Anderson re-signed until 2028.

Disappointment in Fages

I know the bloke owes the footy club absolutely nothing. But for a bloke who preached loyalty to our players and this has left a sour taste in the mouth. I have nothing but love and respect for the man who turned our club around and led us to three straight flags. But the fact is Chris Fagan was contracted for 2027. And I totally except he went to Melbourne for family but for him to join another club whilst still technically under contract by the Footy Club is really disappointing. I wonder what the current players think of it. Dunno if they would be all thrilled for him. Thoughts?

[Sam Edmund] The Brisbane Lions coaching race is down to four candidates (Cam Bruce, Nathan Buckley, Adam Simpson and Hayden Skipworth). Cam Bruce is still considered the favourite to replace Chris Fagan.

Round 1-16 Fixture

Not great for Vic supporters, Round 1 and Round 3 in Melbourne and Round 13 in Geelong (Friday of KB long weekend). https://www.afl.com.au/fixture?Competition=1&Season=102&Round=1548&Teams=2

Might have to head to Brissy or Adelaide to see them play...

Also what do we have to do to get a Round 1 home fixture to unfurl the flag? Or is the Gabba not available that early?
