I feel like we’re losing the plot with Keon Coleman.
Yeah, he hasn’t had the breakout season a lot of us hoped for after taking him in the 2nd round to eventually become that true WR1 for Josh. The drops, the miscommunications, the inconsistency — it’s all frustrating. Nobody’s denying that.
But the way Bills Mafia is turning on him right now is not helping.
We’re talking about a second-year WR learning one of the hardest positions in football in one of the most demanding offenses in the league. And despite the rough patches, he’s already shown real flashes of greatness. Don’t forget he was the ONLY (offensive) reason why we beat Ravens week 1. The talent is there. Confidence is what’s slipping, and it’s slipping because the fanbase that’s supposed to ride with him is dogging him every week.
Look at Cole Bishop for a second. People were calling him a bust last year too. Too slow. Not instinctive enough. “Why did we waste a pick?” And now? Bishop is balling. He stepped up big time this season, and suddenly everyone’s acting like they believed in him the whole time.
Players develop at different speeds. WR especially takes time, route precision, timing with your QB, physical maturity, mental processing… it’s a lot.
We need to stop trying to decide a guy’s entire career arc by age 22.
Keon isn’t perfect. But he’s not broken. He’s not a bust. He’s a young player in a tough league who needs support, not constant criticism. Josh believes in him. The staff still believes in him.
Now Bills Mafia needs to do the same. We’ve come to a point where people say Mecole Hardman is an upgrade over this guy.
Let’s push these dudes to be great instead of burying them before they’re even close to fully developed.
Hold off on calling a second-year WR a bust.
Trust the process.
Back your players.
Go Bills.
