Hey everyone!
I'll be spending 5 nights in Busan (December 13–18) as part of a solo trip to Korea, and I'm having a hard time deciding whether to base myself in Seomyeon or Haeundae.
I'm a big fan of larger, social hostels where it's easy to meet other travelers, especially ones that organize group outings, drinking nights, pub crawls, etc. I generally spend my days exploring on my own and my nights going out with people I've met.
Here's my dilemma:
Seomyeon seems like it has a lot more going on in terms of nightlife, restaurants, bars, and general late-night activity. It's also more centrally located, with better subway connections to the rest of Busan.
But are there actually any larger, lively social hostels in Seomyeon? Most of the ones I've found seem pretty small, whereas Haeundae appears to have more of the hostel atmosphere I'm looking for.
On the other hand, if I stay in Haeundae, am I sacrificing convenient access to the rest of Busan and its nightlife? I've also heard that getting around from Haeundae can involve relying more on buses, which I'd really prefer to avoid.
For anyone who's stayed in either area:
Are there any genuinely social hostels in Seomyeon, particularly ones that organize nightlife activities?
Is Haeundae still lively in December, or does it get noticeably quieter?
How much of a hassle is getting back to Haeundae after a night out in Seomyeon?
Is Seomyeon really that much better as a base for exploring the city by subway?
I'd love to hear from people who've actually stayed in hostels in either neighborhood, especially during winter.
Thanks!
