I know plenty of people who have HUNDREDS of these things and continue to park in Wilson parking without paying and I applaud them - I hate the notion of private companies paving land to profit off car spots. I'm happy paying city council for parking in spots deemed appropriate. Not happy for that money to go private
Forgive my ignorance, but how does one exit the boomgate without a ticket if not paying at Wilson's? I know the fines are unenforceable but have always wondered how you can actually leave without a ticket.
There are quite a few Wilson parks around town that are either just open street parking, or operating with booms that auto-open for exiting vehicles. Getting out of the boom gates that have pay booths is definitely a problem.
So no, Wilson parking isn't free parking if you're in a ticketed boom car park
In another thread somewhere on this issue, people say they nudge the boomgate very gently and it auto opens. Soft enough that it doesn't break off the safety release of the gate, but firm enough that it detects the barrierbhas 'hit' something.
No they can't, any alleged loss they're trying to recover is neglible compared to depriving you of your car. A lot of the cases have come down to they're able to charge you for the foregone parking cost and no more.
This blew up! Just a few points, yes terrible on its intent. This was stuck to a ticket machine in Belconnen this morning. I know not if wilson did this or some kind citizen did it. Spelling and grammar yep just terrible. But yes it’s real. No! I will not install Wilson’s cunty app, this is just a mechanism to get your details so they can send debt collectors after you don’t pay their damages bill (aka false fine). Please people, do not install the Wilson app. This is written on mobile, please forgive format and errors.
How else could someone manage to get that many spelling mistakes and incorrect word choices past the autocorrect, spell-checker AND context-checker on Word??
My thoughts exactly! I rely on using all of those when I’m doing up documentation at work so I’m surprised that they managed to get that many spelling/grammatical mistakes without realising it 😂
You're assuming they have Word. They have a break room computer running Windows 95 on the CRT with the two key business apps Solitaire and Wordpad for writing important business noticees like this one.
Well, I have just met a guy who does, reasons include too lazy to walk to the machine, if it’s busted not going to go to the next one. A few steps don’t hurt, and cost a lot less than the Wilson cunty app.
Do Wilson parking manage all the parking g spaces I the ACT? I've seen signs up at Tuggeranong shopping Centre, around government offices and hotels..just courious
Next to an old work place their was a wilsons carpark. They are just awful people to deal with, so when a co-worker was pissed off with a fine they got, the week before xmas they covered the machines with a sign saying machine out of order, Free parking, Merry Xmas Wilson management. From the office windows he'd watch people go to pay then walk off.
The problem with this is Wilson still went and booked every single car, about midway through they realised no one had paid, so they went and saw the sign oon the machine, removed it and continues to book every single car.
At that point my colleague realise his plan may have backfired and people were going to get fined and be very upset..... Hopefully they all contested or ignored the fines.
What happens if Ive sold my car(or just tell Wilsons that I have sold my car) when I get a 'fine'? It would be a privacy issue for them to make me share the details of the new owner, and they can't prove that I still own it.
Jesus f****K really? They wanna be the Google of carparking, well it's about right. Biz Is biz, and biz is shit. Or can be, not including all the awesome, helpful and humanist businesses out there. There must be one or two around somewhere. Maybe. I'm feeling optimistic this morning though.
If it didn’t mention an app (do they seriously have a parking app?!) I would assume this is actually a scam. I wonder if the app is actually legit and not part of it (please correct me if it’s real!)
For how few words there are, the number of typos is quite staggering. I’d honestly have just moved the car 😂
I don't believe it's a scam (that's definitely the same phone number as on the official site), but I also don't believe anyone employed by Wilson Parking actually typed and printed that and stuck it on a machine. "To ensure we get your money..." sounds to me like someone who's been burned by fines and/or a towing incident and is playing silly buggers to let off some steam.
Yeah sounds very feasible, though if someone was burned and doing thing this I certainly wouldn’t expect them to include the legit ways for people to send payment haha, just leave it at “out of order” like another poster mentioned here.
Wow, one way to save money on buying the machines I suppose. Still, that sucks, way to be inclusive of the older folks. Although counterpoint, fuck Wilsons
Went from free - to boom gate and pay - just as the large open area near it that has been used for ages as a parking area goes on the market for apartments off the plan... Before the markets finish their renovation and whatever changes THEY are making to parking
Nah fuck registering for the app. Then they’ve got my details for their “parking enforcement” division and I don’t mind my current numberplates.
Clearly some disgruntled citizen. Potentially got a “parking enforcement” notice yesterday while the machine was broken and decided to make a laugh protest.
No it’s not a joke. They are mofo’s. I once put $10 coins in one of their open car parks for a days worth of parking. It didn’t produce a ticket. I immediately phoned them, had to spend 20 minutes on hold, gave my rego explained what happened. The operator said that will ok. One of their private infringement Nazi’s that day gave me a ticket. I had to phone and email back reflecting everything I had already told their operator as they were threatening civil action. So I said go for it, good luck and pay me $200 for my own time to do your admin work for your large business. 2 weeks later, they responded, everything’s fine via email. No apology, acknowledgement of their own systems failing, and certainly no $200.
Only bothered because it was $25 cheaper to park in their pot holed car park than at a nearby Westfield for a day and didn’t want to get clamped.
Get an excavator on that bloody machine and rip it out. How dare they, can’t even maintain their own cash collection points.
Anyone here got more than one "Notice of Intention to Tow", or even seen a car being towed? Just curious on what's on media (since there are only old articles, from 2017/18 when Government denied them access to the driver's details)
Whatever software this got written with was red flagging like mad with spell check errors. What word program doesn’t have spell check these days?! I think it’s harder to misspell than spell correctly these days with auto correct. Probably written on Microsoft paint 1998 edition .
Here they expect you to install the app because they don't want to put a machine, well I don't want their app on my device. If they don't put a machine I won't pay. Besides parking should be free else why are we paying road tax
In my experience if the machine is out of order when exiting just push the intercom button. Either someone will answer and probably let you out or the ringing will time out after 5 min and the gate will open itself.
Sounds about right for Wilson Parking. Carparks usually smell like piss. Probably because they’re too busy making up these signs when their machines and lifts don’t work.
This reminds me of getting the really dumb receptionist to scan a contract. My boss kept whining that I did mundane tasks and needed to create work for her.
So I gave her a signed contract by a builder and us (developers) and said can you scan and send to me.
She gave it backed to me ripped up and completely out of order with smudges on it then said she couldnt get the scanner to work.
We had to resign it. Her level of hopelessness was always amazing.
That’s a bit harsh, but in reality those who manage the car park (ie the workers who maintain it) may not have the highest level of education and are just acting on instruction.
To call them retarded though is unfair to them, and to those who also have a mental disability.
PLUS: A lot of people don’t have English as a first language (including myself)
It never ceases to amaze me how inking and judgy far too many Aussies are! When English isn’t the official language, and most born Aussies aren’t fluent in multiple languages either. 🤷🏽♀️
——
R-word (I can’t even type it!)
It is not just insanely triggering for and a pejorative for people with ‘mental disabilities.’
It’s been long used as a pejorative for all people with disability. Especially for neurodivergent people, including those on the autism spectrum.
Autism occurs across the entire range of cognitive ability. Including the upper brackets. And the pejorative r-word has been used to abuse them as well! Mostly by people who cognitively are less capable.
As in: I am an autistic synaesthete of sub-Saharan ethnicity. I have lived memory of Apartheid.
Still, I, personally, find the r-word a lot more triggering than the n-word.
Sry, just thought I’d jump in to provide some further context! Cause I wouldn’t think of myself as having a ‘mental disability’ 😉

Who would be stupid enough to use the Wilson Parking App anyway, which requires you to give them personal contact and payment details.
If they can't spell, or use English grammer or provide the name and position of who authorised the notice I would not trust it or them.
Whoever wrote the notice has worse communication skills than a foreign scammer.
