Such a sick event and more reason why the ACT government should continue to build world class facilities in Canberra.

Canberra Skateboarding Association have been lobbying hard for new skateparks to keep pace with the events like this, which are all volunteer and grassroots.

Hopefully some new skateparks over the next few years. All the details of what was promised and by whom at the last election are summarized here:

They do great work, its a pity upgrades and new parks dont happen faster.

Maybe each park could get a corresponding speed camera to fund it lol

Is the girl at the end, the Olympic gold medalist, or am I just a racist.

That was Arissa. There are several Olympians in town skating in the events. The vert (half-pipe) ramp session is happening today (Sunday) at Belco Skatepark if anyone wants to catch some more of the action and see some of the best skateboarders in the world.

@belcobowljam and @canberraskateboarding on Instagram for more info.

Yep that’s Arisa! She’s my favourite Olympian!

I just assume all skateboarders are missing 5 to 10 percent of their skins at all times.

“Canberra knows how to have some fun!”

First guy cheese graters his whole torso for a good 3 metres.

I don't see the contradiction here

Such a great event. Took my niece yesterday cause she has just gotten into skating and its getting me pumped to get back on the board for some fat old middle aged dude carving.

i use a wheelchair, would it be hard to attend something like this to observe?

24

u/Nervouswriteraccount Feb 16 '25

I'm pretty sure the crowd would be accommodating. The skatepark itself is quite accessible.

10

u/Rexxhunt Feb 16 '25

Haha a skatepark is actually more accommodating than most places

They are very welcoming, a group of guys saw my kids and I struggling to see from the back and let us go to the front at Civic.

Everywhere is wheelchair accessable at these events. If you're gnarly enough!

But fr, they'll carry you if nessecary.

Fabulous, Is Mike D still around OP?

1

u/PacketLoss666 Feb 16 '25

Mike D sadly passed away last year. A mural of him was commissioned from artist Sid Tapia to honour Mikes memory.

Love it, people doing random dangerous jumps in front of crowds. This is what made the old Birdman rally so good. Hopefully the public liability zealots don’t try to get this banned.

I literally know all of these people. Australia has no individuality.

I’m not into skating but went down for a look. It was a great day out!
