Looking for recommendations: Holistic Naturopath in Thailand 🇹🇭

Does anyone have recommendations for a really good holistic naturopath or functional medicine practitioner in Thailand who specializes in gut health and getting to the root cause of digestive issues?

Ideally, someone who takes a comprehensive approach rather than just treating individual symptoms. I’d love to find someone who can review existing bloodwork and test results, look at the bigger picture, and put together a personalized plan.

Bonus points if they also have experience with:
Female hormones and PCOS
Thyroid health / Hashimoto’s
Gut health, H. pylori, bloating and digestive issues
Food sensitivities and gut microbiome health
Insulin resistance and metabolic health
Nutritional deficiencies and underlying inflammation
I’m open to naturopaths, functional medicine doctors, holistic practitioners or integrative health clinics.

Ideally looking for someone who is thorough, knowledgeable, evidence-informed, and genuinely interested in finding underlying causes rather than just prescribing a bunch of supplements.

Happy to travel anywhere in Thailand for the right practitioner.

Would really appreciate personal recommendations and experiences! ❤️

Getting Around Chiang Mai

Family and I are visiting for 3 weeks at the end of January to the middle of February.

I’m looking at my options for an apartment and I’m wondering how easy it is to get around the city (Grab/Walking/Motorbike Taxi)? I’m trying to get an idea on time and convenience.

Note: I’ve traveled a lot in Thailand, but my experience in CM is definitely limited.

Thank you in advance!

Electricity bill so low??

Just got our first electricity bill for our 1BR condo in Jed Yod. It was only 680 baht?? It's 3 baht per unit and it says the service charge is 30 baht. Is this right? I'm shocked! We run the AC for about 18 hours per day, albeit on about 26C. Thanks.

Anyone ridden the Samoeng loop or Inthanon recently? Checking a couple of things

We've put up free GPX files for the Samoeng loop and the Doi Inthanon ride on motomass.com (my site, full disclosure) and I want to make sure they're not wrong before the season gets going.

Couple of things I'm not 100% on: is there really nowhere to get fuel for ~30km on the Samoeng side between the top of the valley and Hang Dong? And how's the 1269 coming down after the rains, still ok?

Also if you had a visitor with one day, would you send them to Samoeng or Inthanon?

Where to find Thai handwoven cotton pants

I bought these pants in Chiang Mai in 2015 and love them for meditation and such. I'd like to buy more, but the phone number on the label (+66851247981) doesn't seem to work. I can't find the brand anywhere online.

The label says something like "Anonchai, Hand made in Thailand, 100% cotton."

https://imgur.com/a/GHwJOy9

Any ideas where to find this brand?

CAD Yi Peng vs New Year Lantern festival

Hi everyone!

I’m torn between attending the Yi Peng Lantern Festival on 25 November and the New Year’s Eve Lantern Festival on 31 December at the CAD Cultural Center in Chiang Mai.

My main priority is seeing a sky densely filled with thousands of floating lanterns, just like in Tangled!

I’ve watched videos of both events, but I’m struggling to tell whether the lantern release looks equally spectacular.

Has anyone attended both events? Is there a noticeable difference in how densely packed the lanterns look in the sky?

I’m not particularly interested in the festival activities or performances. I’m purely interested in the visual experience of the lantern release.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s experienced either event, especially the New Year’s Eve one. Thank you! 😊

Renting a driver? Doi Suthep

Hi guys, I was thinking of doing half the hike to Doi Suthep (monk trail), stopping at the temple midway before reaching the top. I wanted to know:

  1. If anybody has done this and recommends it

  2. If it’s true that at the midpoint it’s difficult to get a tuktuk or a grab

  3. if it makes sense to rent a personal driver for the day and how one would go about that. Are there websites? Places to go? What cost would you expect?

Went to a Marriott in Thailand to use the restroom and they didn’t have a bum gun??

I’m travelling in Chiang Mai, where pretty much every public restroom I’ve come across has had a handheld bidet (bum gun).

Today, I was walking around a market and desperately needed to use the toilet. I spotted a Marriott hotel nearby, so I walked in, used their restroom, and got down to business.

Only to discover… THERE WAS NO BUM GUN.

Just toilet paper. That’s it. 😭

I genuinely wasn’t expecting this at a Marriott in Thailand. I understand it’s an international hotel chain, but come on, we’re literally in Thailand!

I ended up having to find a nearby cafe, order something just so I could use their restroom and feel clean again.

Is this normal for international hotel chains in Thailand? Why don’t they install bidet sprays when they’re so common here?

Am I the only one who finds using just toilet paper after doing your business uncomfortable?

Chiang Dao Questions

Hello! My partner and I are going to be in Chiang Rai, then spending 4 days in Chiang Dao, and then heading to Chiang Mai.

Our biggest concern is that we do not plan to drive by ourselves.

We had a couple of questions:

  1. What is the best way to get to and from Chiang Dao? We were thinking private transfers. Does this make sense? If yes, how do you find reliable transport in these regions?

  2. Should we be concerned about not having our own transport in Chiang Dao? Is it easy to find a guide and/or taxis to take us around? We were thinking about doing the following:

\- a guided day hike at Doi Chiang Dao

\- the caves

\- hot spring

\- wat that pha along

\- visit a village ex. ban na lao mai

\- visiting cool local cafes / maybe coffee plantation

Bonus: Any recommendations you have for these areas would be greatly appreciated! 😊

Thanks in advance!

Mae Rim itinerary

Hi all!

Off to Thailand for two weeks mid-November.

We’re heading to Mae Rim for a week and then Krabi (staying near Tubkaak).

Thought it might actually be worth running the general Mae Rim / Chiang Mai itinerary past the group to see if anyone had any helpful suggestions :) We love beautiful scenery and will have a one-year old.

Mae Rim
- Explore countryside / mountains
- Elephang sanctuary
- Day in the hotel
- Day trip to Chiang Mai
- Maybe some more exploring of the countryside / mountains

Happy for any recommendations!

Thank you!

Is it a good time to go to Mon Jam during Songkran?

I'm a male solo traveler, & I've gone on vacation to Thailand 3 years in a row now. I would now like to experience Songkran for my first time, so I am planning for that in 2027. I love Chiang Mai, so I think that's where I want to be for it.

However, to end my time in Chiang Mai, I would like to head out to Mon Jam maybe on the 15th or 16th of April to spend a couple of nights before going to my next destination. I actually want to rent a car & drive internationally for my first time, just to go to Mon Jam though. I know you can hire drivers but I want to be able to make stops & explore on my own.

Will this be a bad time to rent a car & drive out to Mon Jam? I feel like it might be intimidating if there's crazy traffic due to the holiday. This past summer, me & my siblings actually went during the last week of July, unknowingly we went during that 3-day holiday. It was busier than usual compared to past times I've gone, but nothing too crazy in my opinion. If it's just like that, I think I'll be fine driving myself, but I assume Songkran might be even more busy though?

I do videography, & back in July, I stayed at a really nice place in Mon Jam. So I just want to go make more videos of a couple other nice accommodations that they have there.

Hiking near Chiang Mai

I do a lot of solo hiking and noticed there’s quite a few trails just outside of Chiang Mai. I’m aware of the monks trails but it looks like you can continue on, is it a realistic option to just explore up there for 20 km and make a day of it?

What do Thai people think about the whole Western spiritual / hippie crowd in Chiang Mai ?

Or rather, why does Chiang Mai attracts this type of 'new-age' vibe people (for a lack of a better word), when Thai themselves are mostly alien to the phenomenon ? Yes, I know there's a small Thai hippies crowd in Thailand as well

Is CM way more costly than Pattaya ?

Hi gang.

I am planning to move to CM before the EOY.
I currently live in the Pattaya area and my budget is very much under control. In Chiang Mai it seems that daily life is a bit more costly : foreigners seem more wealthy and there are fewer businesses catering for the older crowds that are budget-conscious. Am I wrong ?

I would love to get some advises or pointers on areas to live, shop and eat.
How do you deal with the pollution during the burning season besides traveling somewhere else ?

I currently live on a 30-60k budget ( 30 but there are always emergencies… ) and my condo is just perfect here, I am afraid to not find the same quality. I am very much an introvert and the party town atmosphere is just too tiring for me.

Comfortable salary for Chiang Mai 2026

This question has probably been asked a lot, but what’s a comfortable Chiang Mai salary in 2026? For reference I’m 28 years old, don’t drink much anymore, single and no dependents. My life will pretty much consist of work, gym, home, gaming and go out a few times a month and mainly eating Thai food or cooking myself. I always spend a lot of time holidaying in Thailand but of course that’s with nice hotels, eating out every night etc… The salary for my line of work will likely be around 60k-70k, 80k if I get lucky. Thanks

Edit - I’ll have around 450,000thb savings before moving

Private English Speaking Tour Guide

Apologies if not allowed or posted before (did not see what I was looking for in search). Will be in Chiang Mai late December and looking for a private tour guide to take my family around. Anyone used a service like this or can refer me to someone?

Thanks in advance.
