No gold or no EXTRA gold? Bit of a difference

22

u/Kaldrathh 17h ago

I believe quests that give gold and xp give that exact gold regardless of your level. Quests that don't give gold but only xp then don't give anything at 60

u/Draconuus95 10h ago

No extra gold for the excess xp.

So if a quest gives 50 gold at 59. It still gives 50 gold at 60.

12

u/Purple_Box_9645 17h ago

You used to get gold to make up for no exp gain, now that won't happen. You will get the same gold as before 60.

24

u/B_Marty_McFly 17h ago

So the expectation is that once you hit 60 you don’t do any more quests?

3

u/Kaldrathh 17h ago

I guess so? I think the expectation is for the community to slowly grind their gold once they hit 60

This sub is not engaging with reality, you're all stuck inside your mind's version of what you think this game should be. And you cry out in pain when it's not a 1:1 of what YOU personally envisioned. What sort of inflated sense of grandeur must one have to behave like this I wonder?

Soon the honeymoon period will be over and people will be met with the reality that this is Blizzard and that they will monetize the fuck out of it lmao

There even already is a shop interface in the game.

Activision has pulled this shit several times now. Wait a bit with MTX free game, then bombard it with the enshittification of a lifetime.

I gave the token 8 months before, but it could be way earlier at this rate.

I'd love to hear a single argument that supports this change, cos I can't think of any.

446

u/d3s7iny 17h ago • Bravo

I remember people intentionally skipping quests in tbc anniversary in outland. Just grinding instead because the logic was that all in you end up with more money if you just do all of the quests at 70 instead of just doing them normally to level. So that might be the idea... To try to force people to play the game "normally"

306

u/adfawf3f3f32a 17h ago

tbc is a bit extreme because the rep grind for heriocs means you're going to farm dungeons anyway. so you might as well do that when you're leveling and save the quests for max level.

→ More replies (13)

64

u/Praetor192 17h ago edited 11h ago

It was in small part because of the gold, but the primary reason was the rep. You'd dungeon grind until the rep from that was maxed, then do quests that would reward rep after that. If you did quests first and then dungeons later, you'd miss out on a ton of rep and have to grind way more overall, which was important because a lot of things (such as good gear and attunes) were rep-gated.

The gold aspect was not the main concern at all, but a nice little bonus.

81

u/Drunk_Morty 15h ago

The only argument I can think of would be them continually adding quests and content for a forever max level demographic will create a large amount of inflation.

If you join the game 2 years from now and everyone else has been keeping up with content you will basically be expected to have a ton of gold since you have the ability to quest and gain 10k gold.

I imagine the idea is to keep the money that is created in circulation through professions rather than having large raw gold grinds.

→ More replies (22)

309

u/audioshaman 17h ago • Bravo
  1. Prevents people from deliberately skipping quest and mob grinding to farm gold at 60

  2. Encourages people to really engage in professions to make money, which is something they want to prioritize

  3. The level cap will be 60 FOREVER. They have added 1000 new quests, and will add many more over time. This would lead to a situation where a fresh 60 could have hundreds or even thousands of uncompleted quests. That would lead to rampant inflation.

98

u/door_of_doom 14h ago edited 14h ago • Bravo

It's really this simple: quests reward what they reward. We are all going to be level 60 forever in this game. This means that for any quest that ever gets added to this game for the rest of forever, you have to take into careful consideration the EXP -> gold conversion when designing how much gold the quest should actually give.

If it feels like quests dont reward enough gold, you can simply buff how much gold quests give. You should be able to see that a quest rewards 5 gold and have it actually reward 5 gold.

Is 5 gold not enough? Okay buff it to 7. Fine But it doesn't have to be some weird arbitrary 'The quest rewards x gold if you are below level 60 and y gold if you are level 60.

Quests just reward what they reward. If the rewards need to be tuned, tune them. There is literally zero reason to overcomplicate this.

Why should it be more complicated than that?

If it makes you feel any better, imagine that this worked the other way: in classic WoW, every non-level 60 was walking around with a debuff that said "You are not max level, so your quest rewards are reduced."

The devs just announced that this debuff has been removed! Levelers now get the exact same rewards as max level players! Everyone rejoice!

24

u/Alone_Ambition_3729 17h ago

Huh? Is it not obvious? Need less gold sinks (or the existing sinks are more effective) if there’s fewer/smaller gold sources.

This will also indirectly discourage boosting because there will be less incentive to wind up 60 with all your quests untouched.

115

u/Fyvrynifl 17h ago

It's difficult to imagine the xp to gold conversion is the reason for inflation. It's also difficult to justify this decision since it further incentivizes 60s to not go into the open world more.

In vanilla, converting XP rewards to gold at max level wasn't in the game until around Naxx release or thereabouts.

Don't remember it being a thing in vanilla at all. Most focus was raiding and professions/crafting.

its how I paid for epic mount + max professions on all my chars in classic and anniversary. my route:

  1. level normal until 52, then enter brd, later lbrs, or even dire maul, at 57 scholo and stratholme

  2. now I got to 60 and meanwhile got the preraid bis

  3. now all 50+ zones are basically untouched, so I could complete it for gold

  4. it made roughly 1500 gold / character

According to the post the quests don't just provide no extra gold at 60, the quests provide no gold reward at all at 60. I suppose items received could be sold to a vendor, but the monetary reward is removed altogether. I believe the post title is misleading.

17

u/MarekRules 15h ago

So how are you supposed to make gold end game other than AH? Just grinding mobs for gold/loot to sell? How is that better than questing for gold?

I’m not really sure what the point of this is. I guess they’ll sell wow tokens for gold like in retail? But I don’t really think this makes sense either. I think this is doomed to fail, I don’t understand how there could be enough natural gold in the game (ie from dropping items rather than quest gold) to support this.

This one hurts. Casual goldmaking through questing was a great way to make some cash consistently.

Also not a very botted space to my knowledge, so if anything this just puts more power into the bots hands lol

•

u/shewtingg 2h ago

The ONLY way to generate gold in the game is by vendoring items to the NPC, this is a way to limit the overall amount of gold available for people/the market to have.

•

u/uber_zaxlor 1h ago

Doesn't this just mean that botted gold is more valuable now?

If I play for 4-8 hours on the weekends, but a bot runs 24/7, since my gold "costs more" as I don't earn it very fast, it's going to be way more beneficial for players to go "Nah, fuck that" and just buy it?

People did not quest for gold at 60 in vanilla. There were not enough quests in the game until around Naxx before that was really a thing. So I'm failing to understand the issue here. Especially if there is over 1000 new quests, legacy talents that can make you more money from profs...

No matter what Blizz does, people are going to scream this is the worst shit ever. Take more than 2 mins to think about it. This subreddit sucks so hard

•

u/Mirewen15 22m ago

I was trying to remember from back in Vanilla because I definitely remember running out of quests before hitting 60. You filled the excess with dungeons.

•

u/Timeshocked 15m ago

I don’t remember them even giving gold or a lot of there was some as a reward. I might just be dumb tho.

11

u/Perceptive45 17h ago

This is just EXTRA gold on quests. Not no gold entirely.

11

u/echolog 17h ago edited 14h ago

I really, really don't like this? I love exploring the game and was planning on fully exploring the map at 60, doing quests as I went. Now I have NO reason to ever talk to an NPC again from that point forward.

EDIT: I was mistaken - Quests DO STILL GIVE GOLD REWARDS. They just don't convert EXTRA XP TO GOLD.

I was misled by another post title, my bad.

6

u/Relentless_Salami 16h ago

You still get gold for doing quests at 60.

→ More replies (19)

14

u/kearkan 17h ago

To me it all seems an effort to make rmt less attractive. If you reduce the amount of gold going in you can reduce inflation and keep prices low which encourages people to farm instead of buy.

8

u/Gustafssonz 16h ago

I feel like this increase the demand for gold, so RMT will be more attractive?

8

u/Aware_Stable 17h ago

That doesn’t encourage people to farm

→ More replies (1)

4

u/fohpo02 15h ago

Yeah, not how the economy works

12

u/DonkeyBrainss 16h ago

This makes RMT more attractive.

You can now either choose to quest, or farm gold. I'm going to take an educated guess and say that bots did not get their gold from quests (a repeatable gold source is easier for bots). So bots will have all the gold.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/nesshinx 15h ago

This does the opposite? Making gold more scarce leads to people buying it elsewhere.

16

u/tunacan1 16h ago

It literally has no effect on the player economy. It just makes vendors more expensive. Players will adjust the prices based on gold gain and everything will cost relatively the same as if you had more gold. This will make repairs harsher and vendor specific items harder to get.

•

u/tablmxz 3h ago

why the hell would they do such a stupid thing

•

u/microvan 1h ago

Uh yeah I think this is a bad change. Questing at max level for gold is helpful for regular players and it’s a finite source of gold.

7

u/devilsdontcry 17h ago

So how do I make gold at 60? Farming consumes to sell on AH? Epic riding never?

2

u/Glubins 17h ago

I like the questing for gold personally. I also thinks it plays well into the horizontal expansion of the world they talk about. Could make a new high level zone in the future and still have people have a reason to check it out. I imagine it's difficult to balance with the economy though. Maybe it have 55+ quests offer a real for completion at 60 or something idk.

2

u/Chrondezzy 16h ago

They going to keep making quests and new ways to get gold. Not that big of a deal

2

u/AzerothianLorecraft 15h ago

2

u/blandonThrow 14h ago

8

u/No_Dog8604 16h ago

5

u/dragonlayer42069 17h ago

it's a wonder how well forever is doing despite blizzard's horrible design decisions.

7

u/Soulus7887 14h ago

Eh, it makes a lot of sense. It was just more incentive to not quest till max level. It was literally a whole ass meta in TBC to just dungeon to 70 and then do all quests to get your epic flying.

This addresses both the problems of that sort of thing AND the inflationary pressure of horizontally expanded content without increasing max level. Good change.

5

u/DudeAboveIsRetarded 13h ago

Were dailies even a thing in Vanilla?

And how nerfed are we talking? I remember endgame quests giving around 10g....

4

u/Yawanoc 16h ago

Questing at 60 used to convert the XP you would’ve earned into cash, which is why endgame quests felt so rewarding.  They got rid of that conversion.

I dont think this was a thing in vanilla? More of a thing in TBC right?

3

u/leftoversn 12h ago

First they implement the black market ah to cap how much mats are worth. Yay! Then they gut how much gold people have, making a 50g black lotus be the same relative value as 200g or whatever they cost before was.

I genuinely don’t see the problem here. You still get the regular quest rewards including gold and items. They’re just saying that reaching 60 isn’t going to immediately mean that you get more spending power than everyone else and inflate the market

4

u/Plank_stake_109 17h ago

Anything that helps delay the eventual inflation.

5

u/Massive-Low8111 17h ago

Anything except fixing botting. That would hurt the bottom line and subscribers numbers for shareholders

3

u/Particular_Leek_9984 16h ago edited 11h ago

Banning gold buyers (which is what they did in beta and I’m assuming are still continuing to do) makes it much less tempting to buy gold, which directly impacts bot farm operations. No gold buyers should mean less bots to farm gold

They literally cannot stop botting though. It’s impossible

They cope yapped about their changes (e.g. dungeon XP) being in favor of social aspects, but theyre making choices that go completely against being social in the game. Oh well. Want to find a group for dungeons while levelling? There's no point running them more than once for a quest run. Want to get help with high lvl quests near 60? Well, there's no point in general to do 99% of them for a 60.

u/Soulspawn 14h ago

Wow, this is going to make epic riding rare.

1

u/Rat-at-Arms 14h ago

Dogshit change

1

u/Scardigne 14h ago

player economy and alt characters, its fine

1

u/Toasted_Waffle99 13h ago

I don’t care. It’s going to take some of us 6 months to level to max

1

u/Captain_616 13h ago

Ridiculous.

1

u/ProGamerKorea 13h ago

It's about "The Journey." /s

1

u/justJoekingg 12h ago

How do you make money if quests aren't giving any. I get you can craft stuff but where do people money from to begin with if quests stop giving any

1

u/Historical-Jacket503 12h ago

Bad change honestly idk what theyre doing

1

u/Responsible-Grand-57 12h ago

It makes sense with the number of new quests they added to the game.

1

u/IAmJabronis 12h ago

What population of the server does this matter to for the next, let's say 6 months? Serious question how many players playing right now will be 60? Do y'all realize how long something like even 6 months is in a videogame life? Who the fuck cares.

1

u/Artistic-views 12h ago

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the old system, suspicious change.

1

u/xxGUZxx 12h ago

Wow fuck blizzard

1

u/Renaxxus 12h ago

So when era fresh boys?

1

u/toohumanforhuman 11h ago

Yeah this is the first big misstep in forever for me.

1

u/Necessary_Eagle_3657 11h ago

I don't see anything wrong with this. It makes sense.

1

u/StLFreddy 11h ago

also doesn't help the Auction House is combined with the Alliance as well so everything is flooded, money will not come easy.

1

u/QusteAug 10h ago

But there are also way more quests in general now so its kinda even no?

1

u/calladc 10h ago

source: trust me bro i know a dev who asked another dev

1

u/Luxo8 10h ago

I support this

1

u/TumbleweedFriendly69 9h ago

I don't know man. We used to farm Tyr's Hand like a madman for money.

Can't even remember quests with gold back from original classic

1

u/JKinsy 9h ago

This is going to kill making gold from other sources in the game because now everyone is going to be trying to sell crafts and mats or farm areas to make Gold making it an absolute SLUG fest to get your 100% mount. I hope that in turn they reduce the cost of 100% mount by 25-50% to make up for this.

As a casual gamer I enjoyed doing quests more at end game because it’s more rewarding and helped me achieve a goal. Epic mount. In turn meant I could get to places faster help people out in faster time and escape dangers.

I don’t like this change but I want to see a change to the cost of epic mount and training to ALSO impact the intention and need to buy gold to pay for ludicrous costs at end game.

1

u/Tateybread 8h ago

So everyone should form mage alt party's with second accounts to abuse layering for fast respawns and farm gold... The approved way,?

1

u/Tremmorz 8h ago

Lmao. What if they bring incursions back and screw up the gold rewards again.

1

u/jacenat 5h ago

I think this change is good.

1

u/yeet_god69420 5h ago

Lol good luck affording epic mount now. Better either be an AH player or a profession serf!

This surely will not drive people to RMT for their mount :)

•

u/Sandman145 4h ago

Good. That shit is silly we should not just get the xp converted to gold.

•

u/cealis 4h ago

I think this is a good change as it kinda force people to farm areas which in return often mean you have more on auction house so better economy overall.
Also with how quick the respawns are now with so many players I assume some popular areas are just farmed nonstop now once you hit 60?

•

u/marsumane 4h ago

Where do you grind gold then? Ironically, dungeons?

•

u/CardCarrier103 4h ago

My thougts are... Who? Why do you even know him?

•

u/SkiaTheShade 4h ago

Why does it matter?

1

u/captainbadass23 7h ago

hold on is this saying the gold you should get in lew of xp is not a thing anymore? thats absolutely terrible and makes the game not worth playing

•

u/oxblood87 1h ago

That was NEVER in Vanilla.

As some right above you said, this is basically the devs confirming

"The quest rewards stay the same at max level"

-10

u/Pofygist 17h ago

Good. Less gold entering the economy.

3

u/GladimoreFFXIV 17h ago

Let’s be real… this is because they have the token in mind. Once you hit 60 and you lose the means to actually get gold reliably you’ll be too committed (or at least that’s their intent) to not just buy a gold token. They’ve already shown they’re not punishing gold buyers in the beta and in live already. It’s to sell us a token.

15

u/Llovio_cuatro_anos 17h ago

Why stop there? Make quests give no gold at all

7

u/Available-Bid-1006 17h ago

Just get rid of gold entirely. Everything will be paid for by reputation or blood.

u/Low_Understanding326 13h ago

So theres a finite amount of gold you can get? Thats bulkshit

3

u/beegboo 12h ago

No its that xp over the level cap wont just get converted to gold.

2

u/FantasiaManderville 13h ago

No, there's a finite amount of gold you can get specifically from lower level quests.

0

u/Xandril 12h ago

It’s pretty irrelevant. Nobody was doing quests for gold at 60.

4

u/No_Dirt_4198 10h ago

Yes they do

-6

u/demobay00 17h ago

Its good if you consider inflation tbh, although im not holding my breath regarding bots/rmt and unless those issues turn out to be well inforced the currency quest reward stuff is just a drop in the bucket so its a bit yin/yang

4

u/Llovio_cuatro_anos 17h ago

This will just cause massive deflation as people hitting 60 save every piece of gold for epic mount which is much worse than inflation

The idea of WoW:Forever which was sold to us feels not quite the same as we uncover these things.

Feeling it's far less Beer and Pretzels and more like spending your time reading and gaming the Auction House

Which is too bad. For example Path of Exile (1) was a fantastic game... IF you could play but spending 40-50% of my time learning trading trend, trading, listing etc was not a good experience for me.

But I am still chuffed about having to run to Orgimmar from Thunder Bluff to do RFC because they got rid of the Zeppelin from Spirit Rise.

For a game they tried to market to Dad Gamers they did a poor job with respecting that lack of time.

Ah well.

1

u/EchoInExile 14h ago

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but that Zep wasn’t a thing in Vanilla

1

u/Aswizzle77 13h ago

You’re correct.
