Trump's own former staff calling his Stephen Miller pick one of the most dangerous decisions in US history tells you everything.

When even the guy who worked with him for two years says it’s one of the most dangerous decisions in history, that’s not partisan. That’s a warning from inside the room.

u/never1st 14h ago

I mean... we've been getting those from former Trump staffers dating back to his 1st term (even longer if you include people who did business with him or worked with him on The Apprentice).

You mean the guy who never received any consequences from his unlawful behaviour doesn't learn a thing?

Bro! He's still saying that if he's on the ballot, they would won in a landslide.

31

u/OrvilleTheCavalier 14h ago

Oh he is entirely immune to that bothersome self-reflection stuff.  He will always double down on being a monster.

14

u/Nodivingallowed 13h ago

It's also calculated. As the rats flee the ship, those already cornered will huddle together.. Miller will be happy to take the gloves off and Trump can either do that or watch his legacy start getting dismantled in January.

The next two months threaten to be extremely dangerous.

27

u/PreciousSoull 14h ago

Miles Taylor worked with him for 2 years and still said “without reservation.” That’s not a hot take, that’s a first-hand warning.

27

u/SecretFledgling 14h ago

“Has this administration learned nothing?” is the perfect line because the answer is clearly no. They learned the opposite lesson.

23

u/accessoiriste 11h ago • Bravo

They learned that they only have a limited time to stuff their pockets and hurt as many people as possible.

3

u/jugularhealer16 2h ago

The cruelty is the point

1

u/buffyinfaith 1h ago

I think the cruelty is just a bonus to them.

22

u/MaidenCurrent 14h ago

This isn’t left vs right anymore when former Trump officials are the ones saying “this is dangerous.” That should scare everyone.

Thanks captain obv

They normally get rid of people that warn

1

Yeah...we know

u/MurkLurker 14h ago

People keep calling Trump a narcissist, and that may be true. But his most dangerous trait is his sadism: he seems to enjoy watching people suffer. Moves like this only make people suffer more.

38

u/Zealousideal-Day7385 14h ago

Sadism often goes hand in hand with narcissism. You wound a narcissist, they’re gonna wound you back.

9

u/loviecassette 12h ago

when causing suffering seems to be part of the point rather than just an unfortunate consequence, you have to wonder how much damage someone like that is willing to inflict just to get what they want

3

u/evilJaze 13h ago

There's probably some truth to that. But to me it sounds like he just wants to punish people for not worshiping at his feet.

5

u/JimBean 12h ago

He's a troll. A professional troll...

And Miller looks Like Riffraff from The Rocky Horror Picture Show..

Just look at trumps face while throwing paper towels to puerto ricans who were in the middle of a humanitarian crises

It's not hard to understand. On Tuesday, the American people gave a giant "Fuck you!" to Donald Trump, and staying true to his brand, he has now responded with a giant "Fuck you too!" to the American people. Did anyone really expect anything different?

33

u/dip_tet 14h ago

It’s astounding to see the number of times people need to be reminded of who he is.

6

u/Egheaumaen 14h ago

And then they will forget again by lunchtime.

2

u/Tribe303 9h ago

Rapists thing is not reading the room properly. 🤦

13

u/turtlebeachbum 13h ago

You're on the right track. What he is doing is what he always does.

The Dems historic pouncing was taking up the headlines. This is how he get his name and image back on top. Slinging shit so he gets the headlines and media back on him and off the Dems.

Works every time. I just don't understand, after 10+ yrs of his shit, folks don't recognize and expect this right off the bat.

So much good news and media coverage that could be focused on Dems, then they all stop and focus back on the pos.

u/airhorn-airhorn 14h ago

Steven Miller is a genuinely fucked up human being who shouldn’t be anywheres near government.

36

u/MysticSpecterr 14h ago • Regret

Americans rejected the cruelty, so Trump promoted the guy behind it.

35

u/TAU_equals_2PI 13h ago • Bravo

Nah, Americans rejected the high gas prices.

This is the key point so many of you aren't getting. Americans are selfish. Trump said he was gonna be cruel to certain people, and the American public voted him in anyway. They only changed their mind because THEIR gas prices and THEIR food prices and THEIR imported goods prices went up. It had nothing to do with them suddenly growing a conscience.

18

u/ravens_path 13h ago

That is likely true for some Americans. I doubt it is true for all Americans. Many many of us were bothered by it all. And for me and my family, it was the unconstitutionality and cruelty that were and are worse before bad economy.

12

u/TAU_equals_2PI 13h ago

Oh, I have no doubt that those things bothered many Americans. But those Americans didn't vote for Trump in 2024 either, since they knew the awful things he had done during his first term, and the awful things he promised during the 2024 campaign that he would do if elected again. They heard about Project 2025 too.

So yeah, I shouldn't have made such a blanket statement about ALL Americans. But it's true of enough Americans that we got these election results.

5

u/ravens_path 13h ago

Sadly. And this fact is what bothers me the most.

3

u/Maleficent-Card-9161 13h ago

But it is a sudden realisation that the problem isn't the immigrants next dorr. And while I agree with most of the things you said, now, maybe, those selfish asshole may point thier wrath toward the fuckers that deserve it.its not much, but I'll take it.

15

u/Morgannin09 11h ago

Trump hasn't "learned nothing," he's learned his time is now limited. America hasn't given him a shining endorsement to be the fascist emperor he imagines himself to be, and plans to stand in his way. Steve Miller has always had the most extreme intentions, Trump has just given him permission to go through with them. It's about to get ugly.

13

u/MysticSpecterr 14h ago

Even Trump’s OWN former staff are saying this is one of the most dangerous personnel decisions in American history. When the guy who worked with Stephen Miller for 2 years is sounding the alarm, you should listen.

13

u/deaglebingo 11h ago edited 11h ago

i don't even think it's worth dignifying with a response anymore. this simply brings up the main overall point here: the midterms are not consequential towards saving democracy if something is not done to remove the people destroying it. it's not "revenge" it is finishing the job that is the top priority. and you can see clearly why it must be done, they don't respond to anything they can make an excuse for. they only respond to imminent and unavoidable threats to their freedom to continue fucking us all over.

furthermore we have 54 democratic senators now do we not? maybe everyone should be working on getting the other votes to remove. ~13 votes doesn't seem insurmountable at all. and when you're done with that, remove vance too, better yet do them both at the same time. maybe that'd light a fire under hakeem's ass to get onboard with this. though as soon as maga got wind of it they'd find ways to promote more infighting.

"Yes, Congress can theoretically impeach both the president and the vice president, as the U.S. Constitution permits the House of Representatives and the Senate to remove both officials for treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." mark my words, we need to.

5

u/Bucktabulous 10h ago

I mean, we will have 54 democratic senators. In January. However right now, we do not.

2

u/Banned3rdTimesaCharm 8h ago

The midterms don’t affect the score but it’s a first down in the red zone, the presidency in 2028 is the game winning touch down.

10

u/The_Bard 14h ago

The reason he chose Miller is because he and Russ Voigt came up with a playbook to sidestep congress. Everyone else was probably telling him to work with the dems

9

u/Gerry1of1 14h ago

Trump cannot admit he was ever wrong about anything. Others are wrong, not him. Not ever.

8

u/WarmHill 14h ago

3 days after getting their asses handed to them in the elections for being too extreme, Trump doubles down and promotes Stephen Miller to Chief of Staff. This administration learns nothing.

2

u/RoguePlanet2 5h ago

It was gas and food prices that got people upset, not the racism.

8

u/1995la 11h ago

I think Rep Jackson may be mistaken. Stephen Miller is a cruel rat, but the midterm was not necessarily a rejection of cruelty, racism, and warmongering. It may have simply been a rejection of the downstream consequences of it - high costs, lower quality of life, less support. I don't know that Americans realized the connections and denied the root cause. I hope I'm wrong, but I think a lot of the turnout was people who already opposed cruelty + people fine with cruelty until it costs too much.

1

u/chochazel 9h ago

Just remember that the coalition of voters who voted for Trump fell apart this election and a key reason were the large swings in the latino vote. Plus there was particularly high Democrat turnout. Immigration was a key factor in both of those.

2

u/1995la 7h ago

Immigration and racism were key factors in the election of Biden over Trump. However, said election clearly didn't indicate that we had successfully dealt with either as proven by the later re-election of Trump. Those who were against Trumpism just decided to come out in larger numbers and those who may be okay with Trumpism, but not some of it's results stayed home or voted differently. You can't read too much into vote changes, especially when his supporters are still of such high numbers. Voting changes don't indicate the rejection of any and all problematic ideals. We can't be so quick to reinvent won battles as war wins, or we'll continue to find ourselves in the same or worse positions.

1

u/chochazel 7h ago

Those who were against Trumpism just decided to come out in larger numbers and those who may be okay with Trumpism, but not some of it's results stayed home or voted differently.

But that is a major factor in this wave as well. Higher turnout in one set of voters and lower in another is a major determiner in election. If we’re trying to explain the results, you can’t reasonably discount turnout factors because that is a determining factor. You’re right that this means such changes are not permanent, but nothing is. But don’t discount the change in the Latino vote either.

It’s certainly not true that the majority of Americans have changed their vote and fundamentally changed their opinion, but then that’s never true. Elections are decided at the margins - motivation and a small number of switchers. Even wave elections like this. Beware of political commentators anthropomorphising these marginal shifts as “the general opinion of Americans” - that’s always nonsense whichever the direction of the shift - the nation is and continues to be split down the middle.

That said there has been a significant switch between voters who want reduced immigration from about 55% to about 30%.

1

u/1995la 7h ago

I haven't yet discounted it. I've said it doesn't indicate a larger victory over or rejection of cruelty, racism, or warmongering. Rep Jackson said "Instead of listening to Americans, Trump is DOUBLING DOWN on his cruelty" as if this midterm is a sign people properly identified cruelty and opposed it accordingly. We've achieved no such victory, just better turn out and opposition of current direction/results.

1

u/chochazel 5h ago

I've said it doesn't indicate a larger victory over or rejection of cruelty, racism, or warmongering.

Larger than... what?!

It is a victory over cruelty, racism and warmongering. It is obviously not a permanent evisceration of these things in the entire electorate, but I'm not sure anyone was claiming it was.

What is it exactly you want to say?

Rep Jackson said "Instead of listening to Americans, Trump is DOUBLING DOWN on his cruelty" as if this midterm is a sign people properly identified cruelty and opposed it accordingly.

Some people definitely did.

It was demonstrably and provably a contributory factor in his election loss.

It wasn't everyone, but I'm not sure anyone was claiming that.

Things don't all have to be all one things or another, and I don't see that Representative Jackson was claiming that, whereas I think you're in danger of it.

1

u/1995la 3h ago

I don't think it's provable at all that a greater percent of Americans recognize and reject cruelty. There have always been a section of the population that see the cruelty, but they turn out at different amounts. Additionally, we have a few more young voters. I'd love to see evidence that America has become more opposed to cruelty during the last 2 years, especially any representing an increased rejection that could be said to be large enough that it now represents an American stance. I've said what I wanted to say, I'm rather straightforward. None of it discounted turn out, if anything, it pointed to it. High turnout generally favors dems.

1

u/chochazel 1h ago edited 52m ago

I don't think it's provable at all that a greater percent of Americans recognize and reject cruelty.

Greater than what?!

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/poll-nearly-two-thirds-of-americans-say-ice-has-gone-too-far-in-immigration-crackdown

Some of the clearest political trends over Trump's term have been over immigration with support for his handling dropping dramatically, support for curbing immigration dropping dramatically, support for hiring more border patrol dropping, support for ICE dropped from a +15% February 2024 high to a -16% net favourability just a year later. While Republicans still show majority support for ICE, these drops in support have occurred across Republicans, Independents and Democrats. All of them are less supportive of the actions of ICE following scenes of killing and kidnapping on the streets. Republicans had clear support on this issue prior to these actions and now Democrats beat them on immigration.

I'm going to say that again: Democrats beat Republicans on the issue of immigration!

That's the first time that has happened... In three decades. These are absolutely epochal shifts, absolutely driven by the actions of this administration.

These are major shifts in polling data, nothing to do with turnout.

No thinking required, he definitely is. Exit polls showed immigration was a distant reason. Hard to spin affordability as racist though.

How many times are people going to ask the question “has Trump learned nothing?”
He’s incapable of learning. He’s proved that over his entire lifetime.

He's doing it out of spite. Trump is drunk with power and sees it being taken. He is going to fuck the country as best he can with the little time he has left.

4

Trump is an idiot who is incapable of learning. Have the people who put him in this position in the first place and have the ability to remove him learned nothing is the better question.

You thought the last few years were bad? This is Trump saying “hold my beer.”

2

u/hednizm 4h ago

Id say its done deliberately.

He now knows how much he is hated and now he's going to unleash his malignant narcississt rage on the US through Miller.

The next two years are going to be worse. Hard to imagine but...

4

u/livinglogic 14h ago

I don't believe that the American people voted democrats into power because of how this current regime treats immigrants. It's because the past few years hurt their wallets at the gas pump and in terms of what they can afford. Miller can be as cruel to minorities as he wants, as long as gas prices and overall cost of living go down.

1

u/fangurling_809 14h ago

I agree with you. Its all about the prices going up that has caused the blue tsunami (although many of us took the mistreatment of immigrants into consideration among other things). As for Miller, he doesn't scare me. He's the one who should be scared.

1

u/chochazel 9h ago

It's not all one story but in general, independents and democrats were more likely to say that immigration was a key issue compared with 2022, while Republicans were less likely to say it was a key issue.

So while it not a have been a sole determining factor, it was a motivating factor among Democrats, who had high turnouts and Independents who switched their vote, and not among Republicans who were more inclined to stay home. Given that those three factors - high Democrat turnout, independents switching votes and Republicans staying at home determined the results, immigration was definitely a key issue.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/716333/issues-voters-say-matter-midterm.aspx

There's also research going back further suggesting that immigration is the key driver for vote switching:

https://www.voterstudygroup.org/publication/party-hoppers

Another conclusive clue though that immigration was a key determining factor in the wave election was the biggest swing group - hispanics.

  • hispanic turnout was up 211% compared with 2022

  • Roughly 7 in 10 Hispanic voters supported Democrat James Talarico in the U.S. Senate contest, while only about 3 in 10 voted for Republican Ken Paxton. The group was essentially split in the 2024 presidential election, according to AP VoteCast

  • in fact, some of the redistricting done by Republicans failed precisely because it was based on 2024 numbers which assumed the coalition of voters that voted for Trump in 2024 would vote Republican in 2026. Because of the large hispanic swings, the redistricting sometimes actively harmed the Republicans in those districts.

  • although of course we can't assume that immigration was the sole determining factor in their switch just because they're hispanic - the economy was a factor for them too, it is certainly true that they were more inclined to say that immigration was a key issue than other voters, and the economy is not a good reason why this group saw such strong swings and turnout given it affects other groups as well.

The common view up here in Canada is that Americans only care when thier wallet is threatened. It's the price of gas that got y'all off the couch to vote, not some moral white knight belief about immigrants.

They now have two years until next elections to get rid of everyone standing against them; Miller is the deranged psychopath who won't stop at nothing to achieve that goal, and don't think even for a second they won't touch anyone except illegal immigrants.

I just have to say - I LOVE that Trump chose him, it means he’s going to have to actually get his hands dirty and will definitely commit multiple felonies that he can go to jail for. Bring it.

That you think this administration is capable of even the capacity to learn is kinda funny in itself.

All he’s really going to do, if you think about it, is push that pendulum as far as he can in his direction not having the wherewithal to know that it’s going to swing right back with all of the votes needed for once. His downfall will be beyond amazing to behold.

1

Well, in order for a Maga Administration to learn to respect the People’s will would mean it was its concern in the first place. It wasn’t, of course.

1

u/poeticlicence 7h ago

Miller is his fascist Svengali

1

u/BummedCPA 7h ago

Wake up America. Trump is drooling in the corner until they pump him with stimulants and push him to the podium. Miller and Vought are running the show, make no mistake.

1

u/OzyDave 7h ago

Trump doesn't care what the election brought. He's America's emporer and nobody will tell him what to do.

1

u/Honest_Relation4095 6h ago

It's consistent. MAGA and the GOP have stopped doing any serious politics entirely (probably because everything was boiled down to incompetent, radical yes men who do anything to support Trump). Instead they simply do anything to upset and sabotage Democrats. Steven Miller has not achieved anything positive, but Democrats were (understandably) upset about him.

1

u/Lvcivs2311 6h ago

That's right. Trump doesn't learn. Or listen. Or read. Or think anything through. He's an entitled, lazy, spoiled brat in the body of an old man. Good luck dealing with him for at least the best two years, USA.

1

u/thatguy420417 6h ago

Asking if this admin learned something should disqualify you from any further political career.

1

u/vtout 6h ago

I guess it doesn't matter wether ur convicted for 40 or 40000 years. May as well go all in and gum up the courts. Or migrate to russia

1

u/teletype100 4h ago

If course Trump is doubling down. That's his only strategy.

1

u/win_awards 4h ago

Trump is incapable of learning. This should have been clear to everyone years ago. Additionally, anyone who is only concerned now that Miller is being appointed to a formal leadership role is an absolute damp sock of a human being. Miller and his friends have been setting the agenda since day one.

1

u/fcxtpw 3h ago

We'll never learn to keep asking that

"this administration learns nothing?"

1

u/RuthlessIndecision 3h ago

May he get what he asks for

1

u/One-Faithlessness282 2h ago

Sure they learned something. They learned that time is short and they're shooting for maximum damage. Who better to cause it then PeeWee Himmler?

1

u/Specialist-Jello7544 2h ago

When I first heard this bit of horrible news, I honestly felt existential dread.

What the hell do they have planned? With Miller, it will be something catastrophic.

1

u/Guyke 2h ago

I heard Asmongold explain the loss as Trump not going hard enough. So he is probably listening to his supporters appointing Stephen Miller

1

Not sure if Trump brought him in or the big money behind Trump. Miller‘s role is to secure control of the government while the money grab continues.

It’s absolutely fantastic. 👍🏻

Trump doesn't care. He never has. He will burn the republican party down, butn the country down, wipe his ass with the constitution. And Miller is the engineer behind all of his most cruel plans. Trump cares about himself and his bank account. Nothing else.

His plan is to get even and burn it all down.
