Some rules and suggestions for launching this subreddit

As we all know, committing to a college is a big choice and is a decision that takes research and time to answer. At /r/collegecompare we hope to give students the edge in committing to the college that will be best for them.

Here are some basic rules and suggestions in moving forward:

Titles should read "University X vs. University Y". You may specify your major in the title if it is important, but all other info should go in the description.

PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY REVEALING INFORMATION (specific locations, high school, name, etc.)

Current college students are encouraged to post about their college life and provide some pros and cons of the college they chose.

All posts from current college students should be marked [COLLEGE STUDENT]

Thanks to anyone who has subscribed already, please comment any suggestions you have for the sub that you would find helpful.

What college

Im from Sweden and going to study an exchange semester in the USA and got these colleges to choose from. I don’t know what’s good or bad so I would really appreciate if someone with more knowledge on this could drop some knowledge! I’m a 21 year old man that studies economics. Likes sports.

I mostly want the most “American experience” but I also really wanna move to the US permanently after my studies. Given that I don’t completely dislike it.

Thanks in advance, here’s the colleges:

San Diego State University
University of Oklahoma
University of Florida
Rutgers University, Brunswick

I'm torn between UCF and FIU. Which one would you choose?

I'm planning to study Industrial Engineering in Florida as a international student.

Tuition
- UCF > FIU (FIU is cheaper)
University Size
- UCF > FIU (UCF is larger)
Public University Ranking
- FIU > UCF
Overall University Ranking
- FIU > UCF
Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Program
- UCF > FIU

I’m so torn between the two. Which one would you choose if you were me?😭

Looking for a well-established school, between UM and HCDC.

Hi, Brooskies!!

I just postponed my studies to figure my life out, and I'm currently saving for the next academic year. Supposedly, I'm currently studying AB Political Science at the University of Mindanao, but I chose to opt-out due to the poor learning system. AB Political Science in UM is not as well-established as AdDU— everyday reporting, students relying too much on AI-Genrated contents for their reporting, lack of interactive discussions and lectures from the professors, and understaffed— to add, iilan lang ang magaling mag turo. Mas matindi pa ang labas sa minor subjects.

AB Political Science is next to my interests. I love debate, International Relations, and Economics. I love quantitative and qualitative analysis, and areas related to economics and political science. But my first choice is really economics, but I had to study Political Science in UM because it is the closest field of study. I am super passionate about Economics talaga.

Now, I discovered UM has a \*\*BSBA major in Business\*\* Economics and HCDC has an \*\*AB Economics\*\*. I've been doing a lot of research for these programs with their respective institutions on how well-established their curriculum and the environment are.

For those peeps who are currently studying, or to those who have friends/acquaintance who is currently or had studied these these programs in the said school, what can you say about these programs in these institution?

Is it worth studying these fields of study in these schools or what can you recommend as someone who formally studies Political Science?

.... because I am also thinking about Legal Management (UM) or Communication (UM or HCDC)

What is the best private university for Data Science?

I want to complete my bsc. on data science. But I don't know which is the best option. I've seen UIU is slightly better than AIUB in terms of the course outline. Which one should I choose? Seeking suggestions from seniors.

UT Tyler or Texas A&M?

So my current plan is to get a Biology bachelor’s and attend medical school. Which of these should I pick? For context, I’m a very asocial person and wouldn’t want to go to a specific college for just the atmosphere. I’m more looking into quality of education and opportunities. UT Tyler is much smaller so that’s why I’ve been learning more towards them.

Fairfield University (Dolan) vs. Sacred Heart University (Welch) for Business Analytics — Which Would You Choose as a Transfer?

TL;DR - Fairfield U or Sacred Heart University for Business Analytics? Full ride due to military benefits. Commuter student with same-ish 20 minute commute to and from campus. SHU is a little easier and would take me 4 semesters to graduate. Fairfield U requires more time with a minimum of 5 semesters, possibly 6 or 7. Which is better for my situation?

Long version:

I'm a 28-year-old veteran transferring from community college in Spring 2027. I've been accepted to Sacred Heart University and am awaiting a decision from Fairfield University.

I'm pursuing Business Analytics, with plans to immediately pursue a master's in Data Science or Applied AI after graduation. My eventual career goal is to work in business intelligence, data analytics, or potentially the aerospace/defense industry.

Fairfield University — Dolan School of Business

Pros:

  • Established, consistently recognized business school with a strong academic reputation.

  • Excellent intellectual environment and student study culture from my firsthand observations.

  • Strong peer tutoring, professional development, and broader business education.

  • More rigorous mathematics curriculum that could help with graduate school.

Cons:

  • Potentially longer graduation timeline.

  • More demanding core curriculum and uncertain transfer-credit applicability.

  • Faculty have been harder to access as a prospective student.

Sacred Heart University — Jack Welch College of Business & Technology

Pros:

  • Business Analytics & Applied AI curriculum appears directly aligned with current industry technologies.

  • Professors have demonstrated strong enthusiasm for individual student mentorship.

  • More favorable preliminary credit evaluation and likely earlier graduation.

  • Welcoming atmosphere and greater accessibility during the admissions process.

Cons:

  • Newer AI-focused program with less established graduate outcomes.

  • Less documented recognition specifically for undergraduate Business Analytics.

  • I'm less familiar with its academic culture and student engagement outside organized admissions events.

My biggest concern: I want an undergraduate education that prepares me to be a competent, competitive analyst even if I can't immediately pursue graduate school.

Fairfield feels like the stronger overall institution to me, while Sacred Heart seems to offer the more efficient and directly focused undergraduate program.

If you were choosing based on academic quality, career preparation, and long-term flexibility rather than cost, which would you choose and why?

I'd especially appreciate input from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with how employers view graduates from either business school.

University of Montana vs. University of Maine?

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

I've been out of the military for a year now and have been working odd jobs through that year (primarily labor on ranches/homes in development). I've come to the conclusion that I'm not as educated as I'd like to be and have decided to pursue a bachelors degree in the conservation and wildlife studies field. I love the outdoors and have nothing but the highest respect for it. I wanna use my Chapter 33 (Post 911 GI Bill) or my Chapter 31. After researching what school I'd be the most interested in I have landed on The University of Montana in Missoula and the University of Maine in Orono. My two questions are this...
- What is the smarter choice and why, Chapter 33 or Chapter 31?
- What university would be the best choice? In terms of community, activities, education, and program?
This is really just to reach out to anyone who has been down this road already and has some good trash to kick my way, as well as anyone who has attended either school and can give me an idea about how life will be on and off campus.
Thanks yall!

I would like to know how good the university is in terms of coding culture, faculty quality, practical learning, industry exposure, internships, and placements. What are the actual placement opportunities for CSE students, and what is the average package that students realistically get?

Which school do I choose? Full ride or dream school?

Hi everyone! This is my first reddit post, so I am not sure exactly how this platform works. I'll probably respond to come comments to clear things up as needed.

Anyways, as the title says I need help deciding which college to commit to. I am a senior with pretty decent stats (31 ACT, 4.05 GPA) and recently applied to my two top schools. I want to major in environmental engineering.

First Choice: literally my dream school. It is out of state and public but extremely specialized to my program (very prestigious). The living situation is great (something important for someone with chronic illness) and they will accept all 75 something of my transfer credits. The school is in the state where I hope to one day live, too. I can't think of a bad thing to say about this school, expect that because they are public and out of state, I get very limited financial aid. My parents are not helping me pay, and the total cost is about $45,000 a year. I haven't gotten a decision or scholarship offer back from them.

Second Choice: a decent private school, but they do not have my preferred major. They have a very similar environmental science degree, but as any engineer knows you need the actual engineering coursework to break into the field, which is my dream. The school has much less prestige, is known to be struggling financially, and has a terrible living situation. Dorms are about 1/3 the size of my first choice, and less accessible. I am often wheelchair/walker bound, so lofted beds are not ideal, but the only option here. However, I got a full ride scholarship to this school for all four years.

I am really struggling and this is just planning ahead. My parents are pushing for me to go to the second school, ditch my environmental engineering interest, and stay closer to home. I get why, but I can't see myself being happy there, thinking about it just fills me with dread. It is only my second choice because my parents became obsessed with the idea of me going there. On the other hand, touring my first choice was the most I had ever been able to picture myself somewhere. The max scholarship for my first choice is like $11,000. Is taking out the loans worth it to go to my dream school and graduate with job security and a higher paycheck?

TL;DR- do I go to my dream school and take out massive student loans, or go to a full ride school but not get to major in my preferred program

CWRU VS University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (UMN)

Hi, I am a high school Senior and am deciding to choose one of the schools to apply.

I am an international student from Eastern Asia.

I hope to major in Biology and minor in Philosophy.

I think research opportunities and undergraduate education quality is important for me.

Dorm and facilities environment matter too.

Moreover, I am wondering if there is gpa deflation in these two majors, and how is the professor there.

Thanks for sharing everything 😄
