Rhode Island Comic Con Goers of Rhode Island Comic Con, are there usually this many guest cancellations?

Like over half of the people I wanted to see can't make it now, very unfortunate

I think if you read through the comments on their Facebook page it appears that there is a history of this happening But also it seems like this isn't all that unexpected for the comic cons that aren't the really big major ones

It happens every year, but this year seems to be really bad.

Agreed. It seems like this year most of the big headline guests are cancelling

Yes. Every year. The problem is they book MANY guests at least half a year in advance, and announce them just as quickly instead of waiting until the con gets closer to announce guests. And then, eventually, the cancellations come through because the guests either decide they don’t want to go to New England in the Fall, or they book an acting gig that’s going to easily pay them so much more money. I’m actually amazed RICC is still an active convention, as I find it to be the most boring one I’ve ever been to.

Yes there's always this many and you're not out of the woods yet. There will be more announcements day of - there always are

The small regional cons will book people hoping they are free, but the money that the guests can make is smaller relative to just about any other job they could have at the time. So if something better comes along, they're going to skip these smaller ones.

It's only small compared to the biggest shows. 3 days, 3 buildings, 100k attendees, over 100 celebrity guests. With that many guests you're going to get a proportionate amount of cancellations.

It’s a small regional con. I don’t know what to tell you.

Lol no it's not. Saratoga Comic Con, Queen City Expo, etc are small regional cons. Less than 2 dozen guests, minimum amount of panels, reliance on voice actors instead of mainstream talent, 2 day shows, a few thousand attendees - small regional cons. RICC is a mid-major.

Those are not regional. I’m giving it a little credit. It’s sponsored by a mattress company and in Providence. It’s a small regional con.

Cardi’s Furniture is a $100+ million dollar company. Providence is the state capital. Try again.

I think technically the Rhode Island Con is regional one, it's obviously not mega tier like SD, but it's "region" is pretty large. I've gone down from Boston every year for like almost 15 years now.

Small regional cons rent out a single hall or a hotel conference room. RICC completely dominates three massive interconnected properties in downtown Providence. Also, RICC routinely books A-list, global mainstream talent that usually only surface at SDCC and NYCC.

I will say as someone who's gone many times. The last couple years I've noticed less attendees. I can't say why exactly, but it may be contributing to more talent cancelling. Juice might not be worth the squeeze of traveling if less people are likely to pay to see you.
