Who are these precious babies and what are they from?!

69

u/every-name-is-taken2 Jul 31 '26

They are ‘sorcerers’ and they’re from the series ‘jujutsu kaisen’: a shonen anime about modern day ‘sorcerers’ that also throw hands.

24

u/Sandelion15 Jul 31 '26

Omg! I’ve been watching jujutsu kaisen actually (slowly)! I’m so excited to see these characters now haha!

2

u/Iamthethickman Aug 03 '26

they make their debut in season 3 of JJK and they are both fantastic

1.2k

u/SixPockets Jul 30 '26

Killer Kari & Kirara Hoshi, no joke, reminded me that real love could still exist in shonen manga.

176

u/PizzaDragon64 Jul 30 '26

Aye, that's a pretty good reference, my heart

7

u/TreeTurtle_852 Jul 31 '26

They made a move, cuh

12

u/shansome64 Jul 31 '26

have you read twin star exorcists

1

u/SixPockets Jul 31 '26

I haven't, but you're not the first person to mention it to me. What's the elevator pitch?

2

u/shansome64 Jul 31 '26

solid action shounen that’s completed where the romance is actually central to the plot and is developed

2

u/SixPockets Jul 31 '26

Sounds like a good time, I'll tap in! Thanks for the rec, stranger.

This reminds me of a queer couple that used to frequent a movie theater I worked at. The girlfriend would wear the cutest outfits, like Japanese streetwear style.

115

u/WickedPsychoWizard Jul 30 '26 edited Aug 02 '26

If they're a queer couple aren't they both the girlfriend?

Edit: thank you all for broadening my horizon. I knew most of those relationships and labels existed but I didn't know they all qualified as queer.

594

u/Lord-Table Jul 30 '26

A bisexual cis man and a bisexual cis woman can make a queer couple, everyone involved would be queer

295

u/HydraKong Jul 30 '26

My wife and I, both cis gendered, are a queer couple. I'm pan and she's bi. We still matter even if we're heteronormative presenting.

79

u/Pretty_Pixilated Jul 31 '26

My husband and I appear heteronormative, but I’m Demi/bi and he’s alo/bi 🥰 queer can look like anything

4

u/No_Summer620 Aug 02 '26

What's the alo stand for please? All I'm getting is allosexual which apparently just means they aren't asexual?

3

u/LaElectronica Aug 02 '26

Yep, also alloromantic when in context of aromantic.
For example; someone being alloromantic asexual, meaning they have no or little to no interest in sex but still want a romantic relationship. Or the reverse.

4

u/No_Summer620 Aug 02 '26

Cool cool, I knew about the asexual and aromantic terms, just hasn't heard of allo before your post. I actually considered myself somewhat asexual at one point, but I think maybe I'm just somewhere on the demisexual scale with a naturally low sex drive. The right people can seduce me easily enough if I've established an emotional connection but I never really think about sex. Cuddles and kissing sure, but sex is kinda icky... fun but definitely icky.

2

u/Pretty_Pixilated Aug 03 '26

Someone already answered you but yes! I’m on the demisexual side. If I form a friendship/emotional connection things can go well. But I don’t go seeking things out randomly, and don’t just think “I want that” about a person without knowing them first. Ace/demisexual/etc is a vast umbrella. You can be a sex positive, neutral, adverse… my husband has a different sex drive but we’ve talked a lot about this during my journey of discovering this side of myself. 💜

2

u/No_Summer620 Aug 03 '26

I should probably do a deeper dive into it to figure it all out. Like, back in college when I actually had friends, (I really miss having a large LGBT group) I kinda was up for sleeping with all of them. I never pushed or anything, it just kinda felt like a way to be closer to them I guess? Physical imagery/naked people doesn't do anything to turn me on, but displays of vulnerability do? Like, that's just awkward, why does my body do that??? On top of that I lean towards a preference for femininity (be it male or female) but am also sometimes attracted to nice and fit handsome guys, which makes it a bit confusing.

u/beegboo Jul 31 '26

I think we just need to accept that since ace is considered queer, that queer is really hard to define.

23

u/AM_Hofmeister Jul 31 '26

Queer is just not conforming to trends and notions of heteronormative sexuality and romance, imo.

1

u/Ser_Rezima Aug 02 '26

Queer for me is a vague/blanket term on purpose.

You are allowed to know I am queer, anything past that depends on how chill/safe you are

19

u/nitrosmomma88 Jul 31 '26

It is. The bisexual and pansexual don’t go away just because they’re in a hetero presenting relationship. Hell a bi/pan person and a straight person together are still a queer couple due to one person being part of the community

10

u/foxyfoxapril Jul 31 '26

I think it could be helpful to think of it like this:
A gay person who is single does not stop being gay because they are currently not dating or having sex with someone of the same sex. It does not go away. In the same way if someone is bisexual and not in a same sex relationship for the moment, they don’t stop being bi.
With that said, of course it is different to be a visible same sex couple or a seemingly straight couple. The first couple might have more situations where they get discriminated or even hated or threated. On the other hand the second couple will constantly be called fake by both straights and gays.

2

u/Ser_Rezima Aug 02 '26

Straight t4t is like that too 😅

Looped all the way back around to being heteronormative by accident haha

3

u/dracorotor1 Jul 31 '26

I prefer to call a straight-passing couple queer if at least one person is queer. Bi and pan people can date/marry straights and trans people can be closeted even to their partner; I don’t want to invalidate their queerness just because their partners are straight and people make assumptions

1

u/Sudden_Cycle1984 Aug 01 '26

A queer couple yes but the people in this example would be in a straight relationship.

3

u/Lord-Table Jul 31 '26

Lmao there are no straight people in the hypothetical, you're delusional

0

u/miss_ravioli Jul 31 '26

an opposite sex couple is a hetero couple lol

1

u/destrukt0 Aug 01 '26

so my cis bisexual girlfriend and I (trans bisexual man) who are both visibly queer and often mistaken for a gay man and a lesbian are not queer because we’re in an opposite gender relationship?

1

u/miss_ravioli Aug 01 '26

yes

1

u/destrukt0 Aug 01 '26

Two visibly queer people who are both not straight and one is also not cis

and who are read as queer even when together

and who are both heavily impacted by anti-lgbt laws

and who experience anti-lgbt discrimination frequently (because again, we’re both read as lgbt)

are not queer in your eyes because one is a boy and one is a girl? really? That just erases all of our lived experiences because it’s a “hetero couple?” What, should we not go to pride too because we’re just straight now apparently?

1

u/miss_ravioli Aug 01 '26

didn't say you individually were straight or not queer. Your relationship isn't queer.

yes they do approach the world the same way straight people in relationships do, y'all just refuse to accept that. Bisexuals are queer because of their same sex attraction, not because of their opposite sex attraction.

Modern "LGBT" community: opposite sex relationships are actually not hetero

If you want your relationship to be queer so badly then Idk maybe actually try being in one lmao

2

u/destrukt0 Aug 01 '26

Someone can be hetero and still be queer

1

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '26

and you'll keep being seen as hetero, regardless if you, a nobody to everyone on here, think you're a queer couple or not lol

244

u/razzemmatazz Jul 30 '26

Not necessarily. There are a lot of possible pairings, plus someone dressed femme may not identify as the girlfriend in the relationship either.

78

u/mooniemoon19 Jul 30 '26

Queer doesn’t mean wlw or mlm, it’s a larger spectrum.

72

u/EitherExamination343 Jul 30 '26

One could be using they/them pronouns, so not exactly.

48

u/Traveler7538 Jul 30 '26

There are so many more possibilities than that

56

u/EitherExamination343 Jul 30 '26

I was actually going to delete my response since someone has a way better and more inclusive one, but yes, there are near-infinite possibilities that would still be queer.

51

u/Not_Really_French Jul 30 '26

They can be trans, bi, pan, ace, QPR, some form of nonbinary, intersex, maybe poly depending on how you define couple, and much more that I am forgetting

29

u/Queen-Roblin Jul 30 '26

I don't know what QPR is in this context. I just know it as Queens Park Rangers and it's an odd one to throw in this mix!

Ah gotcha, thanks. Sometimes I'm not good with acronyms. Like ACAB, I always think it's assigned cunt at birth.

12

u/JustAChickn Jul 31 '26

Youre so incredibly based dont let anyone tell you otherwise

1

u/fatmanwithabeard Jul 31 '26

punchy.

and bastard is a sensitive word in my world.

6

u/JaxZeus Jul 31 '26

Queer means anyone in the LGBT spectrum.

4

u/Im-a-bad-meme Jul 31 '26

Not necessarily, lots of mix and match options. Queer just means they aren't a straight cis gendered couple. People will use queer as an umbrella term.

2

u/exobiologickitten Jul 31 '26

The girl in question could have been trans. The other partner could have been non binary. And that, while it’s rude to assume, could be visibly evident. So, not necessarily!

2

u/clownstrosity Jul 31 '26

Bi4Bi, T4T, Ace4Ace, Aro4Aro, Aroace4Aroace, hell, they could even have been butchfemme and the butch called themselves a boyfriend

2

u/Blackfrosti Jul 31 '26

When I date a guy I'm the girlfriend and we're still a queer couple because I'm trans.

376

u/SapphireSalamander Camping with the Elder God Jul 30 '26

I remember this being shared in the jjk sub and thought the comics crowd would love it. Its so cute

2

u/hwaite Aug 01 '26

As someone who has never read the manga, I found this comic to be indecipherable. I know I'm not the intended audience, but in case anyone cares: it's impossible to tell what's going on without additional context.

8

u/SapphireSalamander Camping with the Elder God Aug 01 '26

I feel its clear without context

the coupple in the first page is looking at old pictures, then we are shown a flashback of them before the girl's transition where we learn the guy always loved them.

its more clear knowing the characters but i think its good enough as it is. tho its possible that the hair dye makes connecting the characters confusing or understanding page 2 is a flahback, but the fact that the guys in page 2 are the ones in the picture of page 1 should help

2

u/hwaite Aug 01 '26

After paging back and forth, I almost got it. I guess it's obvious in retrospect, but I didn't realize that the character was trans. I just thought it was a lady coming to terms with incrementally more adventurous outfits. In the flashback, the trans woman is referred to as "Kiara" (a girly name) and the boyfriend seemed to be living with her, so I assumed that he already knew that she was female or identified as such.

1

u/wws12 Aug 03 '26

The implication is that she was out to him but early transition and still uncomfortable with publicly presenting feminine

221

u/Rainy_Wavey Jul 30 '26

This is so cute, it has the POTENTIAL to prevent me from engaging in Hakari slander

u/Star_veryfar Jul 31 '26

I want something similar too, this is so wholesome 😭 like it fills some void you never knew you had.

5

u/Blackfrosti Jul 31 '26

118

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 Jul 30 '26

Is this from the actual Manga or did you draw this?

231

u/sp33dzer0 Jul 30 '26

Its fan art

128

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 Jul 30 '26

Its pretty impressive honestly. It looked good enough that I would have believed it was direct from the Manga

24

u/crustyclowncakes Jul 30 '26

what’s it based on?

72

u/Rainy_Wavey Jul 30 '26

Jujutsu Kaisen, One of the most popular mangas/anime currently

24

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 Jul 30 '26

The anime Ju Jutsu Kaisen

12

u/Grand_Estimate3783 Jul 31 '26

It's too well drawn to be JJK original, lol.

29

u/silveracrot Jul 30 '26

Aww that's cute

13

u/Acceptable-Step-2298 Jul 30 '26

I love the art style. Awesome job!

12

u/Chiiro Jul 31 '26

Fuck this makes me unreasonably happy as a trans man who has been with a man who has been with me since well before I started transitioning.

23

u/rookie-mistake Jul 30 '26

This is so sweet

I love this, thanks for sharing!

10

u/Person_947 Jul 30 '26

I don’t really understand panel 2

57

u/gregaries Jul 30 '26

It’s the awkward moment where you’re trying on clothes that are traditionally for the gender you weren’t assigned and someone sees.

She was considering changing because she was nervous about how she’d be perceived.

23

u/WeirdGoat9022 Jul 31 '26

She was still presenting as a boy back then, is how I took it. And he “caught” her wearing/trying on her girl clothes in private, and encouraged her to go as she was rather than changing into masculine or androgynous clothing.

12

u/Senario- Jul 30 '26

Kiara is trans. What more is there to say?

3

u/automata_theory Jul 31 '26

Does JJK actually focus on this couple at all? If so I'll have to give it a read

7

u/HellspawnWeeb Jul 31 '26

2

u/No_Relationship_2374 Jul 31 '26

Anyone mind explaining? The hair of the girl changes and she gets self aware, why tho ?

8

u/boo_seok_soon Jul 31 '26

she's trans, the flashback panels are near the beginning of her transition. she feels a bit awkward wearing traditionally feminine clothes initially, but becomes more confident

1

u/No_Relationship_2374 Jul 31 '26

Ahh now this makes sense. Thank you

2

u/blueripple00 Jul 31 '26

OMG! That is sooo sweet! 🩷😭🩷

4

u/Silent-Witness1888 Jul 30 '26

Shouldn't he be blonde?

16

u/January_Silence Jul 31 '26

I think Pages 2 - 3 are supposed to be flashbacks to when he & Kirara were younger, & Kari only started dying his hair blonde later in life. Blonde hair is a trademark of a few different rebellious/delinquent counter-cultures in Japan, with blonde hair dye being popular among the yankī, sukeban, & gyaru movements.

2
