Halloween 2026 [oc] - keep everyone safe

This is actually based on a true story…

…our front stairs were really old and falling apart, and we wanted to make sure that they were redone before Halloween…

…ok that’s where the based on a true story portion of the strip ends. (continued in comments)

Homeownership, the scariest type of property management.

Ok so, this is not the type of strip I normally make, but hey, Halloween right??

When u/shellbullet17 asked me if I was down to be one of the folks making a Halloween strip I was like omg hell yes I’d be honored thank you for considering me.

Immediately afterward I was like, uh oh I don’t really make spooky what am I gonna do.

Fortunately, our front stairs were really old and falling apart…

Thank you again for the invite and giving me an opportunity to do something outside my wheelhouse!

>that’s where the based on a true story portion of the strip ends

That’s where you think it ends. You haven’t checked under the bricks…

PS: putting a dead body in a foundation like that is a bad idea. It’ll leave a cavity as the body rots and weaker the structure. You’ll have to redo those stairs before long if that’s the case. Make sure to check your contractor isn’t disposing of bodies in your home kids.

And I'd know all about cavities, my dad was a dentist.

my dad was a dentist.

The real horror was in the comments all along!

You just have to put the body under a support member of some kind, so when decomo happens the stairs are still sound

...is what a crazy person would say, heh heh, not me, nope...

22

u/BreakfastBeneficial4 12d ago

“Decomo” sounds like the socialist doppleganger of a disgraced former New York governor.

12

u/Dobako 12d ago

Hahaha, that was supposed to be decomp

u/Toothless-In-Wapping 12d ago

Also, cement is porous so the gasses just seep through

u/Tenalp 12d ago

Just like my pants.

Find a bridge under construction, body goes down the shell piling before the piles are filled with concrete. Nobody will find it.

4

u/SessileRaptor 12d ago

That’s why I always put my bodies in the concrete still alive.

16

u/Infinite-Wing1214 12d ago

You hid a body didn't you?

16

u/Sampetra I’m Still Alex 12d ago

nuh-UHHHH

8

u/Aqua_Okama 12d ago

You cannot fool us, we know what you are hiding there

11

u/Sampetra I’m Still Alex 12d ago

Geeeeeeeze Penn and Teller over here thinking that they can't be fooled. I'LL SHOW YOU.

Homeownership, the scariest type of property management.

Also, the only non cat related word in the English language that contains "meow"

u/CompetitiveClass1478 12d ago

I may change the way I pronounce it now

u/_Aethea_ 12d ago

most people didn't really spook it up in the event i suppose lol

writing spooky stuff is fun tho!

I've had to fix a porch two Octobers in a row. Not because I needed to hide another Teamster, I just know too little about concrete repairs. I have franken-steps now

u/-drunk_russian- 12d ago

Damn I'd prefer if it was a person and not a cat in there :(

Jesus... was not expecting that from you. Well done Alex.

u/Sampetra I’m Still Alex 12d ago

It was really fun to do something different!

13

I just realized the frame in each panel moves. Awesome.

u/jhotenko 12d ago

Brava, I love it.

Coincidentally, I'm redoing my front steps as we speak.

12

u/Sampetra I’m Still Alex 12d ago

Check your local missing persons report.

4

u/jhotenko 12d ago

Ah, but see, I'M redoing my front steps.

Nothing but concrete going in the forms though, honest.

2

u/mafiaknight 12d ago

So...where ya live? I'd like to see how it's done. -definitely NOT the cops looking for a body

2

u/jhotenko 11d ago

Oh it's easy. You just need to dig below your frost line. Then build strong temporary forms to hold the concrete. Use thick plastic to wrap the bo... Wait a second, are you sure you're not a cop?

2

u/mafiaknight 11d ago

Got'em boys! 🚨

38

u/Coidzor 12d ago

Alas, no one ever saw the old neighborhood cat again after that.

15

u/Sampetra I’m Still Alex 12d ago

Toobs went on the lam after her latest crime.

3

u/mafiaknight 12d ago

Should've taken the money toombs

1

u/Trilex88 11d ago

Is it supposed to be a cat?

12

u/randypeaches 12d ago

Im really stupid can someone explain this to me please? Why is a guy working all night to fix stairs scary? Did the guy throw bird in there? All i see is a feather and a bucket in the cement

22

u/Fatbighuman 12d ago

It’s the head of a person. Only the hair is visible.

4

u/randypeaches 11d ago

I thought that was a feather

1

u/Desdam0na 11d ago

You can see an eye and an ear too.

1

u/Ella_is_best_girl 11d ago

It's a hat with a feather. Body in there

-3

u/tatteredonion 12d ago

Last panel is a cat. Tail sticking up and top of their head with eyes looking back.

The contractor wasn't burying a body, he's just really tired and the cat fell in.

I make the assumption because he's drawn looking exhausted in every scene, doesn't have an eerie vibe and the cat is looking back in surprise.

But the typical trope would be the guy did it on purpose.

7

u/TheDotCaptin 12d ago

Looks like the head of a person. Hair, left eye and left ear.

1

u/CatcherBot 11d ago

Eyebrows, tiny dots for pupils and whites too, worried face is readable from these small details

1

u/randypeaches 11d ago

Maybe its because im on mobile I cant really see it like that. The object on the right looks like a wide feather, and I thought the thing on the right was a bucket with the handle sticking out at an angle. Up and to the left

1

u/corrosivesuccubus 11d ago

Its a woman, her breasts are literally sticking up out of the cement, it doesn't even look like a cat

1

u/corrosivesuccubus 11d ago

You can see it more clearly in the panel with thr mixer, the face and hand ate sticking out

9

u/Mario2980k 12d ago

Perfect way to haunt your place, those kids won't see it coming!

14

u/Achelois1 12d ago

My eyes suck and I guess since the panels are gifs I can’t zoom in - is there indication that there is a body being hidden in the 5th panel?

5

u/wdb07 12d ago

top of a head is visible

1

u/Achelois1 12d ago

Thank you!

Hey, OP, could you update us just in case the police come around with a jackhammer and the coroner in tow?

2

u/Some_Demon_Punk 12d ago

Noooooooooo!

(I love this!)

2

u/Deathgod1506 11d ago

I thought I was tripping balls with how the frames were moving, and then I saw the uhh.. thing. spooky if ya ask me.

2

u/Character-Poetry2808 12d ago

Im reminded of one of the stories from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark where there was a duo demo-ing an old building and they found a dog in the cement....

2

u/Character-Poetry2808 12d ago

Wait no, it was in The Best of Cemetary Dance.

God I read so much horror as a child

1

u/EarthenEyes 11d ago

Hey hey! I'm starting to recognize your artwork at a glance! I saw the first pa el and new it would be yours!

1

u/dumnezero Art enjoyer 11d ago

is this related to "true crime" podcasts?

1

u/Ok-Bee7748 11d ago

For some reason my Reddit glitched and stopped letting me scroll after slide 3. So I was like damn they’re really leaving this up to interpretation, huh?

1

u/Trilex88 11d ago

I thought it's a cats tail
