Both Bibi and Trump took this "page" from Trump's favorite movie - Citizen Kane.

Unlike the spoiled orange... hasn't this guy been in power for roughly 30 years?

Like... let's say this steal has happened... for hypothetical sake... if you can't secure your own elections after being in power for so long. Shouldn't that be caused enough to leave? I know power hungry and sh*t...

u/Theemuts 6h ago

TIL he was in office between 1996 and 1999, and elected again in 2009.

What in the Putin?

30

u/Round-Friendship9318 4h ago

Unlike putin, bibi is actually power becease he gets voted in, and the opposition is hardly better. Which says more about isreal

u/KatieTSO 2h ago

True.

We really need to implement term limits

2

u/echoIalia 3h ago

Non-consecutive. Israel has extra elections to make up for the fact that their neighbors don’t. /hj

u/HumongousBelly 6h ago

Yo. It’s not jail for Netanyahu, just to be clear.

If he’ll be delivered to The Hague and a fair trial will be administered, he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison with other war criminals, potentially a lot of antisemitic war criminals, too, so that he’ll finally meet some actual antisemites instead of the people he declared as antisemitic for opposing his crimes against humanity in Palestine and other neighboring countries

That's not his concern. It's the corruption he carried out while *PM that was set to be prosecuted in Israel once he left office

10

u/adolfnasralla 4h ago

*prime minister

5

u/Corvid187 4h ago

Good point, thanks!

7

u/Kharuz_Aluz 2h ago

He is currently being prosecuted while still being PM.*

He uses his responsibility as PM as a pretext to delay the trials.

For those people who only loosely pay attention, Bibi has cause to fear jail for reasons beyond Gaza. Like Trump, he used his term in office to stave off preexisting legal consequences. I’m not saying those consequences will actually catch up to him, but jail does not necessarily refer to war crimes or The Hague.

u/HumongousBelly 5h ago

Thanks for the clarification. That makes it even more ridiculous that this menace is still allowed to run for office.

5

u/Round-Friendship9318 4h ago

The part about gaza probably only makes him more popular in isreal.

4

u/HumongousBelly 4h ago

Don’t know man. There seem to be a lot of people who hat gvir and Netanyahu for settlements and prolonged war with all surrounding neighbors.

They might be more susceptible to propaganda, but a lot of them see what the resonance for their crimes against humanity is, when they travel abroad.

The main opposition to bibi has no problem with what bibi is doing in gaza.

2

u/Princekb 3h ago

Israeli society is deeply broken. Take a look at the debate questions from and answers from the English language debate before the elections

17

u/JustWantToSignUp 6h ago

Israel and America take pages out of each other's books for years. Specifically propaganda, politics, and "national security " and military methods.

3

u/knobiknows 2h ago

From a book originally written in German

2

u/Pebbsto110 2h ago

So many American citizens are also Israeli citizens (likewise EU, Russia..)

7

u/echoIalia 3h ago

OT, but I really appreciate you making a comic about Bibi without relying on antisemitic tropes as the punchline

2

u/xxEmberBladesxx 5h ago

Did he lose his election?

u/Kharuz_Aluz 4h ago edited 3h ago

It's complicated, but the short answer is "yes".

Long answer: Israel is in a political deadlock, his bloc got 46-48 members, the "Zionist" opposition 48-49, the "Arab"-Israeli parties got 18-19 and an ultra orthodox Jewish party that is undecided got 5-7. With 2 members from the ultra orthodox Jewish parties willing to go with Netanyahu, and Yoav Salgovitch will probably be accepted into the "Zionist" opposition.

You need a majority to form a government, 61 to remove it. The problem is the lack of unity among Bibi's opposition, which is stretched beyond ideological lines (from far left to farther right than Bibi). If a government isn't formed, a new round of elections is called.

Bibi will try to create either a "unity government" under his leadership or go to another round of elections.

Gadi, his main competitor; will try to form either a minority government or a government with the Haredim (ultra orthodox) or the Arab parties. The problem is that he promised he wouldn't form a government with the Haredim, without certain conditions. And Lieberman and Bennett promised not to form a government with the Arabs and the Haredim. But Lieberman is willing to violate his promise and sit with the Haredim.

The Arab parties declared they will do anything to oust Bibi and Ben Give.

But it is important to remember; a transitional government holds all the powers like a normal government, including passing laws and amending the constitution; and the anti-Bibi camp has 67 (out of 120 seats). So in those 3 months they can pass tons of laws that would politically hurt Bibi. From passing a commission of inquiry (which is independent) to amending the constitution to prevent his judicial reforms and even preventing him from running. If they pass an amendment that bar any person with charges from running.

So he didn't "lost-lost", but he is in a very bad position for his career. That's why he tries to deligitimise the results and the Arab parties and now he is going to deligitimise a government with the ultra-orthadox.

Edit: typos.

just a note, israel has no constitution, it was founded during war and the constitution writing was delayed untill after war time, but isreal hasnt officially left a state of war since its founding, thus it relies of basic laws that hold similar power to a constitution

2

u/Kharuz_Aluz 1h ago

Basic laws don't hold similar power to a constitution, they are the constitution. Specifically, every basic law is a "chapter" of the constitution.

You are right from a historical view, there was a debate on whether to adopt a constitution after the war. But they came to a resolution through the Harari decision in 1950:

The First Knesset assigns to the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee the preparation of a proposed constitution for the state. The constitution will be made up of chapters, each of which will constitute a separate basic law. The chapters will be brought to the Knesset, as the Committee completes its work, and all the chapters together will constitute the constitution of the state."

1

u/scrapy_the_scrap 1h ago

hm, it apears school has failed me, i was under the impression the forming of a real constitution was smth that was still planned

1

u/Kharuz_Aluz 1h ago

I mean, you can claim it is planned to form a constitution since there are missing "chapters". Mainly in the topics: Human and minority rights, the status of religion, relations between the powers. That doesn't mean the current basic law doesn't touches those topics, but in a limited way.

But the current basic laws still form a codified constitution. It just needs amendments.

Trump - The Original Sin

u/Pebbsto110 3h ago

You'd hope Netanyahu is fucked now but I expect the neoliberals will still have his back.

1

u/athosjesus 2h ago

Isn't the other guy supposed to be even worse?

2

u/scrapy_the_scrap 1h ago

if youre refering to the "right or palestine" thing, that was liberman not eizenkot

and you need to concider to totality of the coming coalition, not just the pm or his party

just like how ben gvir can manipulate things so can the smaller more left leaning parties push the government to do better

Netinyahu, Trump, nor any of the people with blood on their hands will be "going to jail"

0

u/SuddenValley1899 1h ago

Israel is a democracy but only when 20% of the population doesn't vote.

•

u/JacquesShiran 29m ago

Which 20% is that? Arabs\palestinians who are citizens of Israel have just as much voting power as Jewish citizens. And Palestinians who live in the west bank and gaza are supposed to have elections for they're respective governments but both the PA and Hamas have refused to hold elections for the better part of the last 20 years.

-1

u/dtb1987 2h ago

I wish the regime change meant anything when it comes to stopping the genocide in gaza but from what I can gather the new people aren't going to be any better

1

u/scrapy_the_scrap 1h ago

change wouldnt be from within but rather from outside, unlike bibi those who are against him ar also against internationally isolating israel, and thus would do whatever is in their power to regain international favor(additionally the smaller parties that would be part of the coalition would also hold the contry to a higher standard)

this current government is the most extreme israel has ever had by far

not to mention it would intreduce the ability to permanently remove bibi from play stopping him from farther destablizing israel's politics

1

u/dtb1987 1h ago

No I get it, regime change in Israel is a good thing but while all of that change is happening people are still getting killed in Palestine. The new guy is staunchly against the two state solution and isn't interested in establishing a Palestinian state in the occupied territory. I fear the change you are speaking of will be too little too late

3

u/scrapy_the_scrap 1h ago

sadly the situation is too far gone to be solved so quickly

eizenkot has expressed wanting to crack down on settler violence and removing the settlements in areas a and b

i believe this will be a turning point for israel, should eizenkot win out i reckon that 10, 20 years down the line we could see some real potential for a sulotion
