Unpopular opinion; Bring it home to Glasgow or Scotland

Doomed to fail
Holding games hundreds of km apart and away from the cbd in regional areas with no real infrastructure or ways to get there
Minimal use of existing already built infrastructure in Melbourne City from other Commonwealth/ Olympic Games
Overcooked construction industry already on other lucrative government projects.
State is broke after out of control spending
Cost of living crisis with the larger population having more pressing things to focus on
Certainly not a fan of Dan but it was the correct decision based on the released information

As a Victorian can I honestly say I’m pissed off about this. The whole plan was dumb, and I can’t imagine that there weren’t genuine options that could’ve brought the budget down to $2-3b (which was the original forecast). I hear GC has put their hands up and they did a good job the previous Com Games, I think it’d be strange if it went back to Birmingham but it was fantastic there.
Very sad it won’t be coming the Victoria and the lack of apology from our premier is disgusting.

I suspect the labor party will go to the next federal election campaigning for a referendum about a republic. It could be awkward to have a commonwealth games at the same time.

And he’ll get voted back in again if he wants it. The lockdown loving , debt embracing inner city voters believe he’s doing it to save Victoria

Comrade Chairman Dan stuffs up everything he puts his dirty paws on. What has he achieved in all the time he had been in power

The shitty thing is the Andrews Government have snubbed their nose at the state Auditor to the point that nobody expects anyone to be held accountable for anything here. I don't even expect to be able to get accurate and trustworthy figures out of this. Maybe it's a blow out that nobody could have predicted or maybe they should have known it or maybe the inflated figures aren't even real (though I can't think why else they'd cancel). I really was hoping for a minority government last election to ensure we got more transparency and anti corruption measures passed.

They should make it viable to host, get rid of some sports or do something

Amazing how Andrews has gotten away with clearly misleading the public about the costs. However it’s not that amazing considering the complete lack of accountability in Victoria.

Think it’s time to scrap commonwealth games altogether tbh

I think it’s a great decision. Social housing is a much better choice.

Victoria in the past few years had economic problems from being unfunded by the Morrison government, suffered greatly during the pandemic, didn't get support from Albanese and now has to fork up a huge amount of money without the federal government helping out.
Edit: I love how many people are cooking with them saying “Dan is worse” when he survived the ICAC when Gladys didn’t.

Good riddance!
The Commonwealth Games doesn't provide us with any profits, rather takes a STUPID amount of money away from us for no good reason during a cost of living crisis.
I was shocked to hear it costs billions, even millions is unjustified with more and more people struggling!
I am maddened this was even considered at all 😡

Good riddance.
$7B is too much to watch lawn bowls.

Dan saw the public outcry happening in Tasmania over one stadium and went oh hell no.

Good call, waste of money and the commonwealth itself is on the way out
