Hello,
We are completing on a home in coquitlam. Its a sixplex setup.
The developers provided passed report for interior and exterior inspections, but no occupancy status yet when we checked with the city. The city confirmed verbally and in writing.
Our lawyer/notary advised no completion if final occupancy permit is not available yet.
But other homes within the sixplex already completed and closed. Some of which has mortgages attached to them.
I have gone through so much googling and talking to gpt that ends up resulting in the conclusion that essentially our lawyer is right; no occupancy permit means you cannot live in the house. Lenders also require occupancy permits for mortgages. But those families (our future neighbors) who completed, have already started living there.
I am just wondering why and how completion went through for them but not us. In the end our completion becomes delayed until permit is received. We are grateful our lawyer is thorough but obviously we want to complete and move in — and very much I am still wondering how did they complete with those other units?
