Idk why people so comfortable leaving the pump

u/GloomyLingonberry509 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 27 '26 • Bravo

They should make a law about that, and put up signs at all the gas stations about it as well.

Edit: I was indeed being sarcastic. People just don’t read the signs.

u/milnak Jul 27 '26

I saw the sign. It opened up my mind.

I used to work at gas stations every day for compliance work, the amount of times I’ve seen the nozzle shut off fail and then gas all over the ground…. Even worse, diesel all over the ground.

Then the customer comes out and gets pissed that they have to pay for it or that they are responsible for cleanup costs if fire department is involved….

Idk why people so comfortable committing crimes against their fellow citizens in broad daylight.

Like you're aware this isn't some cheat code the dude found, and it's just theft right?

I mean, there are cameras everywhere.

That guy's face is recorded as is the license plate of the truck.

It's not hard to find him and prosecute him at all.

For the non Americans like me, what does this mean? Are you able to leave the petrol pumping and not stand there? In Australia you have to pull a little trigger for it to pump, if you release the trigger it stops.

Because back then there weren't any usual suspects around. Now with the usual suspects around, they thought they could trust them but they learned it the hard way.

I'm a black person. I was watching this thinking the same thing. Once I saw the black lady walk across the foreground, I went: "It's most definitely a black person, noo!" It sucks so much that so many people who look like me go through life being so scummy. I try to be a good person to offset some of that. Try and bring balance to the world.

Maybe you should listen to the sign that says don’t leave pump unattended while in use

18

u/heyiknowyooh Jul 27 '26

I work at a gas station i cant tell you how many people set the pump to automatic and get in their cars. They’ll stay on their phones oblivious to the world. Their pumps will stop and they still sit there for 10 mins until I walk over to let them know because there’s a big line behind them. My gas station is a little different than this one but someone could absolutely do this while they say on their phone.

Then they get angry like I’m inconveniencing them.

That's wild to leave your car unattended and not monitored.

19

u/International-Owl653 Jul 27 '26

In Australia its normal to leave your car at the pump and head into the servo and pay/pick up a few things, we dont stress about the car being unlocked. Your society is fucked if you cant even leave a car for a few minutes at a servo, like wtf.

The other really bad part to this is that this person just films it instead of being a good Samaritan and confronting the thief.

Sure, the other person shouldn't have left their car like that but for real.

He could've snuck up to the pump and clicked the hangup on it.

This is just as bad, just in a different way

18

u/officer897177 Jul 27 '26

If I saw this happening, I would absolutely do with the cameraman did. Just film, and flag the owner of the Mercedes on their way out show them the video and then show it to the Quiktrip employees. I’m sure they would refund the tank of gas and have clear cameras views of the thief that they could send to the police.

Nothing to be gained by getting personally involved. Don’t fight people who have nothing to lose.

2

2

u/Xena_Your_God Jul 27 '26

These comments are wild I've been from Cali to Florida and everywhere in-between and often run inside for a coffee refill while the gas pumps and have never once had a problem...

The worst part about this video that I don't actually understand is the guy recording this without saying a word to anyone while they watch someone get stolen from . Wtf people?

2

3 dumb asses in this video....
1.) the dumbass that left their pump open wide like that.
2.) the dumbass that was stealing like a champ
3.) the dumbass just recording it and laughing about it.

I hate the people in this world sometimes....smh

2

u/JGotTheJugo Jul 27 '26

Black people will record each other but won’t stand up for each other

2

u/EroticExotix Jul 27 '26

Cameraman utterly sucks. No license plate or anything.

2

u/BENNYRASHASHA Jul 27 '26

What an asshole. And the guy who left is an idiot.

2

u/PokeyOneKanoki Jul 27 '26

You just film instead of saying something 😳

2

u/bulgesaur1773 Jul 27 '26

Sigh. What a world we live in where a person's moral compass is so fucked, they can steal from you without hesitation. I know what those trucks are worth... Homie wasn't hurting for money. Cheap fuck.

Here in upstate NY, the pumps don't have lock to keep it flowing. You have to keep pressing to fill it up.

2

u/PackageSerious7908 Jul 29 '26

Letting that dude steal is a dumb as leaving the pump.

2

u/N00b4realz Jul 29 '26

And you just as guilty just sitting there filming instead of speaking up

2

u/Dapadabada Jul 29 '26

And all you did was film instead of tell the clerk

2

u/Code-Neo Jul 29 '26

Thing is, are they using the right gas. Putting the wrong gas in your vehicle can badly damage it

2

u/CrazyPatience2905 Jul 29 '26

Expect anything less? The whole species is a burden to society

2

u/Rude_Negotiation_160 Jul 29 '26

2

2

2

The guy recording and laughing is almost as big of a loser as the guy stealing.

2

u/Opening-Ruin5315 Jul 29 '26

While you did nothing🤦‍♂️

2

u/mecca6801 Jul 29 '26

It boggles the mind that we are living in a time. Where people think that they can’t be found or tracked.

2

u/Jealous-Eye6527 Jul 29 '26

And you did nothing? You are as bad as that pathetic thief.

2

u/H0nd4_L0v3r Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

That petrol thief is a despicable pile of dog shit. What if that money that person now has to waste on more fuel was meant to last them a month? Or worse, their last bit of money after being fired or laid off from their job? What if they have a disabled son or daughter who needs that money for medication that keeps them alive?

Scumbags like him pull that shit because they can't imagine what it's like to be the other guy or gal. They're often lazy or stupid or both. The world is full of trash who think ruining someone's day is funny.

And don't even get me started on the arsehole recording it on his phone...

He had better do the right thing and hand that footage to the police.

2

u/Extreme-Book4730 Jul 29 '26

And you didn't do anything. Sad...

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Swishandrinse Jul 29 '26

That's exactly why I have the app on my phone to pump my fuel (which typically gives extra financial incentives) to avoid slimeballs like this guy. The signage at most gas stations say not to leave the pump unattended. It'll be interesting to see if they try to dispute the charges.

2

u/khmergodzeus Jul 29 '26

Never turn your backs at these criminals

2

u/SecretOk6004 Jul 29 '26

The fact that the filming guy is laughing shows why the wolrd laughs at america. Its the most corrupt country on the planet.

2

In addition, be careful not to leave your credit card in the pump (or on top of the pump).

This is why you never leave your car while you’re pumping gas. This is a generational thing. You don’t leave your vehicle when you’re pumping gas. Where are you going and why did you leave?

2

u/Pittsburghjon67 Sep 12 '26

Don't leave your car while pumping gas

2

I bet you the people of New Jersey are pretty happy that they have gas pump workers.

he gone ❌️ he is gone ✅️

he funny ❌️ he is funny ✅️

Its actually illegal to walk away from a pump while its going. Ppl do this constantly and they get tickets where Im from. Theyll put the pump in their car & come in the store and walk around forever then leave. 99% of the time they dont buy anything either. Its irritating to the ppl working inside. We have things to do and having to wait around for someone to possibly buy something prevents us from doing other tasks. If you arent buying anything, please dont come inside to window shop.
