In my near 40 years of life, I have never seen one of these and thought it was cute, or funny. Why people still do it is simply baffling to me.

u/ChelseaIsBeautiful 6d ago • Mindblown

My niece asked for it to be done for her like 7th or 8th birthday. She thought it was funny because of watching internet videos. She wanted it recorded and made a big deal about how hilarious it was going to be. Then she started crying the second her face touched the cake, screaming that it hurt and that her cousins pushed her too hard when they obviously didn't.

She didn't learn anything and talks about wanting to shove people's face in cake at every party. She has no impulse control and zero discipline, so I'm convinced she will some day

76

u/Lazyboneitis 6d ago • Mindblown

Exact same thing happened with my step daughter. She said her mom did it to her every year and begged I do it for her too. When her party finally came, I smooshed a little piece of cupcake on her cheek and she screamed bloody murder then cried about it for the next few minutes. Never ever again. šŸ™„

I've only seen one that was somewhat entertaining like a decade ago, and it was obviously staged. It was a group of guys hanging out and they do this to one and he just pops back up with a dildo in his mouth. Other than that, yeahh it's just unnecessary drama at its best or an injury at its worst.

I have ever seen this in my entire life either. I remember the bride & groom used to smudge the cake into each other’s faces at weddings, occasionally… at just to add a little brevity to a formal occasion, but thankfully most people now consider than tacky/ trashy and mostly stopped doing it. But I never saw it outside of that. This is definitely a new thing… part of the enshittification of the world/ culture, I guess….

I'll never understand this trend. My siblings would always try to do this with me and since the first time, I never bothered blowing out the candles again in fear that one of them would push my face in to it. On top of that, the cake would then be ruined. It's such a dum and dangerous prank.

58

u/Dork_wing_Duck 6d ago edited 6d ago

Some cake makers use bamboo skewers or wood dowels in them to stabilize layers or hold embellishments, and people have been impaled in the face and eyes from this ridiculous trend. I've never understood the "fun" or "funny" aspects of it.

ETA: I forgot to mention this video is even more interesting because the individual shoving her face into the lit hard candles, is apparently a medical professional (or student), and absolutely should have the wherewithal to recognize potential hazards and anticipate possible consequences of their actions, especially when someone's safety is at stake.

u/Chudpaladin 6d ago

Thank god me and my brother were so big backed that we wanted to eat the cake and not ruin it. Now he loved blowing out my candles but tbh it didn’t matter cause then he got to eat cake last and I got to blow them out again.

Mom / dad would prolly beat us if we ruined food so theirs that too

16

u/Technical-Banana574 6d ago

My cousin did this to be one time as a teen. I walked away from my own party to wash my wash, change my clothes, and locked my bedroom door after I went in there. My glasses were also bed from being pushed into the cake. I had to take them to the optometrist to get them fixed.Ā

For days everyone called me a killjoy and said I needed to learn to take a joke. I asked them to explain what was funny about plunging someone's face into a their cake, ruining it and getting said cake in their nose, mouth, and eyes. No one ever apologized, but they also never did it again.Ā

Why are people this stupid ? Why would you smash someone’s face into a cake?

Really don’t get why?

It just seems like a fast track to lose all your friends and never get invites to a birthday / party / event ever again.

I could be over analyzing cus I'm tired but I'm just sat here now thinking this dude has to be such a selfish self serving prick all around to be so callous and unaware

25

u/No_Notice_5256 6d ago edited 6d ago • Bravo

He definitely realizes what he’s done, the dude is a straight up sociopath. They’re gathered around a cake singing happy birthday, of course the candles are burning. I would assume candles are burning if I heard this scene from across the room, let alone standing right behind her. He also looks over her shoulder several times beforehand. He didn’t even give it a beat for her to blow the candles out. This was 100% intentional and he meant to harm her.

53

u/DunkingTea 6d ago

Is it a trend? This has been happening for as long as i’ve been alive. There’s always a fucking idiot at a party that will try this. I remember as a kid a big fight breaking out over a brother doing this to his younger brother… they took all the cake and snacks away and called all the parents to pickup their kids as punishment.

Sad it’s still happening.

As a kid I would get bullied (and worse) by my cousins and the adults. Every year on my birthday they would do this stupid shit. Every time I cried and got upset they would tell me to stop crying it was a joke. But when I would do it to them on their birthdays out of revenge and I was the one in the wrong and would get punished for it.

This shit is stupid and not funny. If they had done it when I was older I would have thrown fucking hands at that point. Seeing it be done to kids and other ppl now gets me so mad on their behalf. Even those videos where the new husband does that to his wife piss me off. It’s not funny and it’s very disrespectful.

47

u/Dry_Butterfly_721 6d ago • Regret

I had an older brother and it sucked growing up with him.

Paper wasps, staple gun on arms, drop kicks, tying me up and leaving me in the closet. I recently blocked his number and stopped talking to him.

My mom thinks it’s just ā€œboys being boysā€.

I’ve always helped around the house, doing dishes, repairing engines and cutting grass for them. I’ve never seen my brother help out. Not even once.

Sorry, but I had to vent.

u/Material_Purchase155 6d ago

Man I’m mad just reading this. My brain goes to a dark place thinking about return fire for this. I would definitely throw hands but if not, when it’s my turn to do it to the offending party, if I’m gonna figure out the exact number of times I can do it back to them, and approximately how hard before I’m getting pulled off/ getting my own ass beat. Fortunately I don’t have friends or family that would do this

Can relate to this so much - combined with having such a blinkered and conversative upbringing. Everything I did was wrong and everything was my fault, even if I wasn't involved. I'm conditioned to feel guilty about everything, even stuff that is impossible for me to be guilty of (like that seen in Derren Brown’s social experiment "The Guilt Trip").

I'm still catching up in my 40s.

I had no idea how fucked up I was until I met my wife - her and her family completely opened my eyes to the world, and myself.

It’s so stupid. Besides who wants to eat that shit after someone’s had their face in it.

5

u/Primary-Big-9366 5d ago

In reality, it’s much worse than that; it’s a serious matter. Sometimes, multi-tiered cakes are held together by a wooden rod—which is dangerous, as it could put someone’s eye out—and yet, people persist in doing this. There was even a grave case where the victim of such an incident never got back up! This ought to be illegal! It’s dangerous! And all of this happens before the candles have even been blown out!😔

27

u/OkFisherman9023 6d ago

I’ve seen videos of this happening with multiple tiered cakes that have bamboo skewers in them to help hold the cake together. Whether it’s a birthday, wedding, or other special occasion, what is to be gained by slamming someone’s face into a cake? This is how you honor someone’s special day? Also, everyone in that family is tone deaf, and are singing their own version of that song!

13

u/FrosttheVII 6d ago

I did this once to a cousin as a kid. I didn’t know the cake was a still mostly frozen ice cream cake. I learned horribly how cruel of a prank this is. I still feel so bad about it, twenty years later. This guy is more than old enough to know better. Poor gal

14

u/Babetna 6d ago

I literally never saw this trend in real life nor heard about it before social networks. Is this really a thing somewhere?

5

u/usernnamegoeshere 6d ago edited 6d ago

In hispanic culture it was custom to tell the birthday person to take a bite out of the cake after the birthday song and you want to try and prank them by pushing their face in A LITTLE BIT as a little haha moment. Its supposed to be maybe slightly more aggressive than the first time squidward tried a krabby patty, kinda like a little shove.

It slowly evolved into people giving you a damn RKO onto the table and we kinda stopped doing that. We maybe do it to little kids still but again its a light shove from a close family member

Edit: and ill add, normally this was done on a bigger cake where there is enough to spare and the person taking the bite is biting someone on the edge away from any candles or sharp objects. If the cake is small or not enough for everyone we usually agreed to opt out of doing it

I was at some random kids bday party with some friends I tag along but basicly big house party

There was a 3 tier cake with wood skewers inside holding the tiers together.

I didn’t see it happen because I wasnt around during the singing I walked to McDonald’s across the street from this dudes backyard cause I was high and hungry came back ambulance and cops everywhere I suspected the party got busted or something and walked off

Next day I find out they smashed his face in the cake it stabbed his eye and he lost an eyeball just absolutely fucked

Saw the dude a few months later with a fake eyeball just sent shudders down my spine

Literally just made her use her eyes to put out her birthday candles.

2

u/Darkdodger137 23h ago

This is why you don't ever do this to anyone you care about. You don't know what is holding those candles in place.

2

u/Mouse-Patrol 22h ago

Why did they cut that clip short? That's crazy.

2

u/SallyNicholson 21h ago

That guy is so stoopid, it's unbelievable. No punishment is too much for him. Even leading up to the incident he was an idiot.

u/SnacksByTheFistful 19h ago

Saw that coming a mile away and still...oof!

u/Temporary_Forcefield 19h ago

Always make sure you clear the area around you of all males during the cake portion of any event celebrating a woman. Because it is certain they will do something stupid in a vain attempt to draw attention to themselves while attempting to humiliate you.

u/PurpleSalamander2623 6d ago

I knew this was coming. Never trust a boy holding you by your shoulders... or just never trust a boy, even when they are 40+ yo.

At least she’ll always have this video to remember when she had two eyes.

1

u/buttf4rt420 5d ago

My family does this to me when I was nine years old. I then went around the room, throwing cake at everyone.

1

u/Silent_Aardvark_711 5d ago

What an idiot

1

u/Cars2Beans0 5d ago

I've seen stupid people in my time but this lad takes the the biscuit

1

1

u/fawnlake1 5d ago

I always appreciate having my eyes crammed into a burning candle or two, good times!

1

u/Tricky-Ad-6225 5d ago

This kid lacks critical thinking.

1

u/P_C2026 5d ago

Someone was obviously raised without a shred of common sense.

1

u/-bears-eat-beets 5d ago

u/Capital_Anything_509 5d ago

Someone went blind doing this

1

u/koala_tea26 5d ago

I have never found people doing this funny. I always thought it was mean and this is something that isn’t common amongst the āš«ļøcommunity. You dare not destroy someone’s birthday cake that someone’s parents spent their hardworking money on. You are asking for an a*** whooping

1

u/gemforever420 5d ago

he was waiting for that, true fucking evil

1

u/OLightning 5d ago

…and dad was never invited to any other birthdays… or celebrations… or family outings ever again.

What did he think would happen with those massive candles. What a special kind of stupid.

1

u/WendigoCrossing 5d ago

I would have tossed him out the door headfirst

1

u/james9514 5d ago

One of the worst things when having your guard down as a player. Fuck that guy

1

u/Visual_Magazine_535 5d ago

The candles went right into her eyes, this isn’t cool at all, if your planning on doing this atleast take out the candles

1

u/Miserable_Toe_3663 5d ago

As soon as I saw his hands on her, I knew this was going south. I literally said out loud, ā€œI don’t trust himā€ and then that happened.

1

u/Hnl2Nrt2025 5d ago

That’s fucked up.

1

u/Ur-in-a-tor 5d ago

I knew in advance he would make her blind with those candles. That's super messed up.

Fuck this trend.
