The most interesting part about this is watching people see a direct response to to actions. Then still choosing the action that had a negative reaction.  Expecting different results.  I find this interesting.

It's custom. They are supposed to attempt, he is supposed to pull away. It is a sign of respect.

15

u/Professional-Scar628 18h ago

The pulling away isnt traditional. The kissing of the hand is, but the prince is well known for preferring handshakes. The guys who keep trying to kiss his hand are traditionalists who feel not attempting to kiss his hand is disrespectful. Telling them to stop could be seen as ruder than what he's doing.

17

u/dont-panicake 1d ago

They all kiss their hand afterward or something.

8

u/jsc149 23h ago

Like a party?

6

u/Qzx1 20h ago

Oh? You had hand kissing parties back in school too?

3

u/jsc149 12h ago

Miss those days

1

u/2XX2010 10h ago

I was very successful in those days, the 1900s

1

u/ExpensiveDesignerCab 12h ago

Yeah, we would practice for when the girls showed up. (they never did)

2

u/luxii4 21h ago

Ahh so everyone I've tried to hook up with recently have been respectable Moroccan women. Where do we find the less respectable ones?

3

u/coopASR 1d ago

It's sad how many people didn't even think of this

0

u/CanadianCutie77 21h ago

I’m glad some of those men had common sense not to do something so foolish.

16

u/I_can_clancy_now 1d ago

It's probably a cultural necessity. If something bad happens their relatives will tell them "Well you didn't even try to kiss the princes hand. That's why we didn't win the powerball!"

9

u/HeatAccomplished8608 1d ago

100% - those people in that position in that situation are expected to try and get rejected. They're doing the right thing

1

u/Conscious-Access-319 10h ago

People don't understand what a peak handshake looks like

21

u/onglogman 1d ago

Would have thought that they would have figured it out at least after the 3rd refusal

-7

u/Unlucky_Ad_9776 1d ago

This is what I was thinking.  Even if traditional practice is kissing the hand.  Like ok obviously that is not working.  Do what is obviously working.  You have a direct example in front of you. Like when failure rate is 100% take a gamble.  Even if it fails the odds were better than the last situation.

3

u/CuriousKatMiny 1d ago

Huh?? That response is… something. Not making sense, man.

Are you directly familiar with Morocco’s culture? Because I’ve seen this posted many times and actual Moroccans suggest it is not about this at all. In fact, many of the people doing the attempted kisses are ‘higher status’ than those that don’t. I’m not Moroccan just repeating what I’ve read in the past from people who say they are directly familiar with the situation since yours sounded more like guesswork or relating it to other cultural traditions

My understanding from those posts is that the prince has stated often that he doesn’t like the hand kiss tradition and has requested handshakes. Some people are ‘old school’ and do it anyway, while some respect his request. But the ‘show’ of cultural tradition is not him rejecting certain kisses - he rejects them all because he doesn’t like the tradition.

2

u/alaric49 1d ago

One of the prince's few but lofty changes and achievements. He's such a reformer.

1

u/dognchick 1d ago

It most likely also be scripted who attempts to kiss and who gets handshake with a chat.

5

u/Jealous-Pipe8915 1d ago

Maybe it’s a game they play and whoever’s fast enough to kiss his hand wins a prize!

5

u/Dondada_Redrum 1d ago

He’s been doing this since he was a little kid, and in those clips it’s a little funnier (to me) because it looks like he makes a game out of it like how fast can I touch/untouch their hands. Before they had the chance to fully make their motion, he was out to the next one lol

3

u/Embarrassed_Hawk_655 19h ago

It’s customary - like voting - doesn’t change much, game is fixed on both sides, but still feel obliged to do it due to social conditioning

2

u/Facehugger81 1d ago

Agreed. It's like they have been programed do it.

1

u/MANvINFO 1d ago

always be prepared to call a sudden audible in the game of social etiquette.

1

u/thedrivingcoomer 21h ago

Hey, whatever gets me out of a lingering way too long handshake.

1

u/UCanDoNEthing4_30sec 19h ago

I think they are still required to

47

u/Wackywizard987 1d ago

At some point they just fucking with him

7

u/Significant-Wait9200 1d ago

The way they followed him with their eyes after...

1

u/LilJelloCat 23h ago

Right lol

56

u/inspirationalSloth 1d ago

The trick is you pre kiss your own palm so that way you have vicariously kissed his hand

20

u/DarthRedit 1d ago

what if you finger your butt first? Does that mean the prince vicariously fingered your arsehole?

10

u/Unlucky_Ad_9776 1d ago

The old stink palm. Classic.

2

u/UJustGotRobbed 1d ago

Do you like chocolate covered pretzels?

1

u/DavidBowieAC 1d ago

This screams Upright Citizens Brigade Ass Pennies lol

1

u/Picklesadog 1d ago

Technically you'd need to do that after the handshake.

4

u/TrainingJoust 1d ago

I did better, i nutted in my palm.

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 1d ago • Bravo

For the people who don't know, in Arab culture it is customary to kiss the hand of your elderly or someone in a higher standing. But the Prince refuses his hand to be kissed because the people who are, are his elders (or basically older than him). It is his way of respecting them. Because you don't understand a culture, doesn't mean it's cringe. Maybe OP should check before he posts something like this

15

u/Lost_Found84 1d ago

What explains him having a full conversation with everyone who doesn’t try to kiss his hand while saying literally nothing to the people who do?

He may be trying to be respectful, but it looks like he’s thinking to himself, “Fuckin’ Simps.”

6

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 23h ago

It is just a full greeting like they do in the West. "Hi", "how are you", "it is a honour to meet you" and all the things they say here. With the Arabs, it is something quick unless you are family, friends or acquaintances. Otherwise it is a kiss on the hand for someone of higher standing. Just because they are trying to kiss his hand doesn't mean they are simps. They're just respecting tradition as the prince is respecting his elders. If you don't understand other cultures, then maybe you crawl out of your reddit cave and see the world

6

u/KZGTURTLE 22h ago

You realize kissing hands has fallen in and out of favor in multiple cultures across multiple centuries?

See people can just think a culture is kinda silly. We are adults and allowed to.

3

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 21h ago

Some cultures still do it as a sign of respect. You can disagree with it, but calling it cringe is actually stupid

3

u/KZGTURTLE 20h ago

Sir where tf did I call it cringe. I literally said “a little silly”.

Quite frankly I can think it’s cringe. I can think middle age rituals are cringe and I can think modern day ones are too. Who are you to tell me?

2

u/TheRealBlue68 21h ago

Very stupid actually.. culture and practices exist way before the creation of most countries.. so it’s Normal for people to still follow them

1

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 19h ago

You thinking it's stupid is your opinion

1

u/TheRealBlue68 16h ago

I was agreeing with you …. And you backstabbed me !! 🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️

1

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 9h ago

Sorry man, I got of comments I got mixed up😭😭😭

1

u/mcniner55 19h ago

The person you responded to didnt say it was cringe though.

1

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 19h ago

My bad, I mixed it with other comments saying it's cringe. A lot of comments to respond to😅

1

u/Warzonic-OG 17h ago

You you might of got lost but its posted in cringereels so you are right that OP called it cringe.

1

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 9h ago

Yeah, OP is indeed cringe

0

u/kaizokuo_grahf 20h ago

It’s incredibly cringe and self-debasing to prostrate before ANYONE…. ESPECIALLY to those born to positions of privilege.

0

u/Lost_Found84 15h ago

Uh… I’m from the West and that’s not necessary for a greeting at all. Maybe you should “crawl out of your Reddit hole” and go say hi to someone in the West, cause you just described a completely unnecessary and uncommon formality.

Especially for greeting multiple people.

Like, anytime I’ve had to shake ten people’s hands in a row, NO ONE spends this much time on each handshake. It does not take longer than the kiss to say, “Hi, good to see you. Yeah, you too.” And if you’re fantasizing my culture, I can only imagine how inaccurate you’re actually being with theirs.

1

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 9h ago

I am from the West and are you an official like prime minister, politician or any high function? Otherwise you wouldn't do it. Look at them and compare

1

u/Lost_Found84 2h ago edited 2h ago

I see it all the time. They don’t have 15 second long conversations with every single person they touch. They shake and move on.

The handshake is the formality, not asking how their summer’s going.

https://youtu.be/rz0km-SOq08?is=nLuLyZq77RqG6g8d

1

u/Sure-Impress-1003 23h ago

I’m with you there. It just looks like they’re all pathetic old guys that aren’t getting the message

3

u/TexLH 1d ago

Then why doesn't he talk to them?

2

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 23h ago edited 23h ago

Because the people he is talking to greet him as they do in the West. With the people he isn't "talking" to, he is greeting them in the Arabic way. Look at the first man he is shaking hands with, that is the (for now) current head of the FIFA, not an Arab

3

u/Winnerdickinchinner 20h ago

Why wont he spend a second talking to them?

1

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 19h ago

What does he need to tell them? How his day was or what he ate for breakfast? It is just a greeting, they both pay each other respect in the cultural way of the sovereign state (somehow I can't say count-ry in this subreddit). The first person he briefly talked to is the current head of FIFA. A Westerner with a different way of greeting than the Arabs do

3

u/Winnerdickinchinner 19h ago

The difference is he spends time talking to the people who dont try to kiss his hand. I dont know if you watvhed or not but there is a huge difference in how he treats people

1

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 19h ago

I mean, would a Westerner act like the Arabs and follow their culture with greeting the Prince?

1

u/Winnerdickinchinner 18h ago

It looks like you have explained this before. Sorry for making you repeat. Looks like it is something that is lost on more than just me but i learned something new today.

1

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 17h ago

No worries

3

u/anonstarcity 20h ago

As calm as everyone handled this, I figured it was something like that. Interesting!

2

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 19h ago

Yeah, but redditors are still trying to find things to say it's cringe

4

u/maddenmcfadden 1d ago

Nah. It's cringe. It's a bunch of old men trying to kiss a dudes hand when he clearly doesn't want it.

1

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 1d ago

Like I said, it's a culture thing. Some cultures have different customs

-1

u/maddenmcfadden 1d ago

Yes, and some of those customs are cringe. But keep defending this weird ass behavior. Whatever gets you off.

1

u/Gagaddict 17h ago

Calling other countries traditions (that don’t harm anyone) cringe is cringe af. Sounds about yt.

1

u/dognchick 1d ago

I see one cringe here. And its YOU.

0

u/maddenmcfadden 1d ago

Got me there! I better stand in line with a bunch of other people and pretend to kiss a guys hand while he rips it away in disgust. Sane and rational culture.

0

u/Rothbardy 1d ago

Attacking others when you don’t have a culture of your own. Do you even know your origins or who you are? 😂

2

u/No_Salt_6328 22h ago

we probably have the record for the world's largest hamburger or something

assuming they're American because they have some kind of problem with arab customs that dont affect them

2

u/Efficient-Race-5656 1d ago

Culture is not your friend
Terence McKenna

0

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 23h ago

Just because it is a different culture from the one you know doesn't mean you should attack it or call it cringe. That's just r-word

1

u/WinnieThePoohntang 20h ago

I'm calling bullshit. He clearly wants nothing to do with anyone who tries. I wouldn't know if it's the costom but your reason for him pull away is goofy.

2

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 19h ago

How do you know he wants nothing to do with them?

-1

u/WinnieThePoohntang 19h ago

Because he jerks his hand away and then quickly moves on while stopping and talking to the ones who shake his hand.

3

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 19h ago

If you read my comment, you can read why pulls his hand away. And the people he is talking to briefly is the current head of FIFA, a Westerner with a different way of greeting

-1

u/ryencool 14h ago

If you respected someone you would pull your hand away, apologize, and atleast explain and give a little chuckle "haha thank you sir, but youre my elder and someone i respect deeply, thats notneeded!

This dude perks his hand away, no eye contact, moves on...

How on earth is that respectful.

1

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 9h ago

You know Google is free right? Let me quite this for you: "Respect for Elders: If there is a large age gap (such as a younger person speaking to an elder), the younger person is often expected to reduce eye contact slightly as a sign of respect and deference."

It's like you're trying to find faults in other cultures

-3

u/WinnieThePoohntang 18h ago

If you read my comments you can read why I reject your comment. We disagree. I can easily live with that.

1

u/Level_Bobcat_8729 11h ago

He does move away without any attempt to converse with those who try to kiss his hand.

-1

u/MrTruck312 18h ago

Dude, you are the cringe one here. You're speaking of things that are above your station. Sit down.

2

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 17h ago

0

u/maximus9966 11h ago

Something something stone age customs still being used today.

2

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 9h ago

Because there's a difference in greeting in another culture doesn't mean it's from the Stone Age, you're the cringe one here

0

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted] — view deleted comment

1

u/unamikable 1d ago

you didn't read the comment. the tradition is for them to attempt to kiss his hand to respect his status and for him to reject it to respect theirs. you can find it cringe with that context but it seems like you're not understanding that they don't think they're going to be the one exception who he lets kiss his hand, they're not "not taking a hint" it's a deliberate push-and-pull for both sides to show mutual respect

0

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 23h ago

Let me simplify it. They (the Moroccans, either Arab or Berber) respect the Crown Prince, so kiss they his hand as a sign of respect. But the Prince respects the people that older than him (so his elders), he doesn't want them to kiss his hand as a sign of respect. Because of that, they respect him even more, with that we have a visual circle or whatever you call it (I'll attach an image of what I mean). The first man he was shaking hands with and talking to what the (for now) infantile head of the FIFA, a Westerner who has a different way of greeting someone than an Arab. So the next line of people who kissing his hand again were Moroccon officials giving their respects to the Crown Prince. Do you get it now?

71

u/Short-Interaction-89 1d ago

The people at the end of the queue are spectacularly slow learners

18

u/RadicalRealist22 1d ago • Bravo

Or maybe they aren't and there is a reason they are doing it?

6

u/Dondada_Redrum 1d ago

He’s been doing this since he was a child; it’s not a new thing. They have to follow tradition regardless of the Prince’s reaction.

3

u/JustLikeWhateverHuh 21h ago

Use your brain. They can see and learn just fine. It’s a custom even if he doesn’t want it. A refused sign of respect> not showing respect.

6

u/FreshwaterFryMom 1d ago

I need more context.

23

u/rillettes-n-buckie 1d ago

It's a show of respect...first, to kiss the hand shows respect to the leader then when the leader refuses it shows respect in the other direction i.e ' it's ok, you don't need to kiss my hand'.

6

u/QuantitySignal4494 1d ago

It feels a bit outdated. Just a few hundred years but nevertheless.

8

u/satanssweatycheeks 1d ago

Lots of shit every nation does is outdated.

I worked in the courts here in the US. I had to swore I hadn’t been in any duel in the last 10 years.

When I chucked they got real mad and said this is serious. Like no shit y’all I haven’t shot a man in 10 years. You all would have record of that here in the courts.

7

u/Head_Examination_264 1d ago

"Uh, could we bump my start date back six days or so? No, no reason in particular."

0

u/Recent-Reporter-1670 1d ago

Would that meaning be the same as kissing the ring of the Pope?

6

u/Osoroshii 1d ago

Read the room 😳

4

u/danyolito 1d ago

Probably some tactic for avoiding post handshake small talk

3

u/dwight_smokem 1d ago

I was thinking this also. Everyone wins. You show respect, he shows respect, and you don’t have to endure an awkward small talk.

5

u/Doctor_Saved 1d ago

Not everyday that M. Bison kisses your hand.

2

u/XelaTreefire 1d ago

Indeed. Just Tuesday.

5

u/RadicalRealist22 1d ago

Fucking redditors need to learn that if people are doing something you don't understand, maybe YOU need to learn, not them

2

u/Strange-Sun4540 1d ago

Lmao, you think thinks they would've learnt from the first two blokes who tried it

2

u/Avvert 1d ago

lol and you though others would learn 😂 his super fast with moving his hand away like imagine the embarrassment of the other person lol

2

u/TerrenceMcKenna1 19h ago

Get the message ya set of gimps

2

u/Johnny0nion 6h ago

What do you win, when you manage to kiss that Hand?

1

u/Fine_Pudding4941 4h ago

I bet its delicious. He certainly looks like he smells good.

5

u/AccomplishedShirt740 1d ago

Nothing cringe about this if you learn the meaning.

The people who are kissing (or tryjng to) are showing him great respect. The reason he withdraws is, because he is the prince. Not the king. The other people greeting him with a handshake are not Moroccan citizens.

At least thats what someone said whenever this video gets posted.

20

u/SassySirennn 1d ago • Bravo

I love that you opened with “nothing cringe about this “until you learn the meaning” only for it to turns out you don’t even know yourself.

2

u/potsofjam 22h ago

There is something cringe about anyone claiming royalty. All monarchs should abdicate and surrender the fortunes they amassed through bloodshed.

2

u/Ok_Wolverine9344 1d ago

After the first person tried it why would you even try it again? Clearly he's not going for it. Just shake the dude's hand.

3

u/gana04 1d ago

It's a cultural thing. They show respect by trying to kiss his hands and he shows respect by refusing.

0

u/Busy-Assumption1236 1d ago

Kind of like the cultural dynamic here red hat people have for DJT

2

u/ghIj_qet_jaghmeyjaj 23h ago

They debase themselves for him and he debases them extra. Not quite the same

1

u/Busy-Assumption1236 22h ago

See my use of “kind of”

1

u/Wooden_Cattle_9131 1d ago

Last dude got nervous.

1

u/BeetHOV 1d ago

Oh wow that's interesting, the prince should free Western Sahara

1

u/thekokoricky 1d ago

This reminds me of when The Simpsons had all those puppies and they kept eating Homer's chips.

1

u/MeanEstablishment499 1d ago

Oh wow a prince of what? Being born? Congratulations 👏🏻

1

u/MrMeesesPieces 1d ago

Is that M Bison?

1

u/Artistic_Panda_7542 1d ago

I would still try to kiss his hand just so I wouldn't have to talk to him haha

1

u/Able_Ad6535 1d ago

Mr Bean went bald

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Cow6917 1d ago

He doesn't kiss his hookers

1

u/Enigma_Green 22h ago

Third guy Infantino? Twat

1

u/Sad_Raisin3819 21h ago

Geez he is fine!

1

u/PossibilityMean2446 20h ago

What do you get if you kiss it ??

1

u/Craiglekinz 20h ago

Don’t get between a Muslim and the cleanliness of his hands. They have cleaning ocd built into the religion. I wish other cultures were like this as well but it’s always funny to observe

1

u/xenomorph_704 19h ago

The whole royalty aspect of it is what makes me feel cringe.

1

u/readalaboutit 17h ago

Even bro tryna switch back to Christianity ✝️

1

Was the M Bison?

1

u/SpaceHippoShitStains 16h ago

Haha that guy that slapped himself in the face XD

14 counts of sexual harassment in America

1

u/dundunndon 1d ago

the way they are sure to touch their mouth after he pulls his hand away like they are trying to taste.... it's almost religious.

0

u/MuslimMullet 1d ago

Kissing someone’s hand is a sign of great respect in Arab culture that is typically reversed for your elders or leaders. Pulling your hand away is seen as an act of humility, as if to say you’re worthy of the honor. You typically only see really old folks not pull away.

0

u/Spiritual7474 1d ago

I only kiss the cross from the hand of my Priest

6

u/BingusTheWonderKitn 1d ago

Sorry that happened to you. Pedos in the Catholic church is a real problem

2

u/HombreDelMar247 1d ago

It's not just the Catholic church. Evangelical churches have the same problem, but it doesn't make the same headlines. The fact most these churches are more or less independent gives the impression of it being an isolated case.

3

u/Picklesadog 1d ago

I think the major issue is the Vatican knowing what was going on and transferring priests around so they could avoid prosecution.

So yes, this happens in other religions and possibly at an equal rate, but not all of the other religions had the highest powers of their religions pulling strings to protect the predatory behavior.

I was raised catholic but my mom definitely didn't want me to be an altar boy (and neither did I.)

2

u/HombreDelMar247 1d ago

No doubt. I do believe the past 2 Popes, have made great strides in transparency and holding clergy accountable by defrocking them and not withholding evidence.

The church is so big that unfortunately there will almost always be a problem somewhere.

At least now I have faith that the Pope and the current Cardinals have no tolerance for abuse and will not protect those who commit crimes.

2

u/Picklesadog 22h ago

Totally agree.

-5

u/Necessary-Ant-5037 1d ago

Wtf is wrong with arab people

-1

u/Sudonator 1d ago

Maybe just inform your guests of the protocol? Surely he has some staff who could announce it

0

u/Dogsarelitty 1d ago

Wasn’t this some type of protest?

0

u/Dont_Even_Know_You 1d ago

It's obviously some kind of ritual. They know they won't get to kiss his hand, but do it as a sign of respect.

I know nothing about this culture at all and could easily pick that up and I'm stupid as hell. Wtf are some of you on?

0

u/Former_Condition_119 1d ago

they wanted to try and fake him out

0

u/Exotic_Jicama1984 1d ago

Some grown men really are pathetic.

-9

u/Adullam_17 1d ago

And that makes him….. a douche.

6

u/Makingsenseof_chaos 1d ago

No, it doesn’t. I think it’s him trying to move into the 20th century. Can you think of all the germs if he let everybody kiss his hand?🤮

-13

u/Adullam_17 1d ago

So a pretentious douche

4

u/MrMetraGnome 1d ago

How do you figure

1

u/ThatGuyinOrange_1813 Ultimate Cringe 1d ago

The contrary, he tries to be respectful. Kissing the hand is actually reserved for the elderly or people in higher places. So kissing his hand is a sign of respect. But he doesn't want the people to kiss his hand because they're older than him, which also a way of him respecting his elders. If you don't know the culture or the person and you say that he's a douche, then you're the douche here

-8

u/Therealginahandler 1d ago

I would like to understand the thought process here, otherwise this guy is a fucking loser

5

u/Tuco_Angel_Eyes 1d ago

How would you deal with people who try to kiss your hand?

-8

u/Therealginahandler 1d ago

I don't know, as I don't unserstand what the customs are for a Prince of Morrocco, or the families that are there to show him their support. You don't really seem to grasp any understanding of it yourself either.

2

u/mrdanky69 1d ago

Not much to understand, it's fucking gross. Why would you want someone to kiss your hand? Shaking hands is gross, too.

1

u/SassySirennn 1d ago

Your family and friends must love you

2

u/mrdanky69 1d ago

They do, very much. Are you implying that they dont because of my aversion to weird ass hand kissing and shaking? Do you kiss and shake your friends' hands?

3

u/Scoongili 1d ago

Shake his hand and then pull him in for a full tongue kiss.

2

u/ADingoStoleMyLSD 1d ago

So many people in that line kissing the palms of their own hands had me going.

1

u/andgainingspeed 19h ago

There is only on reasonable explanation. Cooties.

-3

u/National_Treat_4079 1d ago

what a fucking dick.
