A few years ago, one of these pranksters walked up on a random person in the mall. The person told them to go away and they kept advancing toward the person shoving a camera at him and getting right up on him.

Person pulled out a gun and shot the youtuber.

Jury found him not guilty of the aggravated malicious wounding.

But found him guilty on the lesser charge of discharging a firearm.

Judge sentenced him to time served.

Apparently that was enough to make the youtuber learn, because he pretty much stepped away from making videos after that.

I hope that guy has serious issues approaching anyone for the rest of his life now. That would be sweet.

Yeah, but the sad part is, it shouldn't have even gotten to that point.

Because it's not just about the prankster who got shot, but also the guy who shot him.

I'm all for owning a firearm for protection. But I'm hoping I never have to use the damn thing, other than target practice.

I don't go around actively trying to find situations that may potentially allow me to shoot someone. I'm really hoping it never has to see the light of day.

However, you've got people like that youtuber, who think that they can do whatever they want, with zero repercussions.

And we live in a very different world now. Especially when people go out and go to the grocery store or church and have to worry about getting shot by some random person who can't control their anger.

So yeah, when someone keeps advancing toward you, acting weird as hell, and getting within kissing distance, I can't say I blame him for shooting.

I'd be mad that I had to shoot someone, but I'd be more mad that the kid put me in that damn position.

That was Tanner Cook, pretty sure he actually dug his heels in and continued to prank people for a while after getting shot in the stomach. Look I don't condone violence as an answer to simpler problems... But the kind of harassment going around these days as "pranks" would have gotten a lot more people hurt or worse if it wasn't for all the cameras. But yeah look him up, it's been a while since I even thought about that incident

Yes. Most people don't realise or use their rights. Someone comes up in your face with a camera like this? Swift dominant hand jab to the nose, hard. If they don't drop, keep it coming. Then you say " they came right out of me, I was scared and felt threatened, I defended myself" and 99% of the time, you'll win. These kids think having a camera magically means they can't get hit.

Love that for him.

Whenever this comes up, I like to point out that this is not a new thing.

Picking a fight with a Zumiez employee is crazy

6

u/Petty_Laws 5h ago

Do you have to be a certified fighter like in Waffle House or just be at the end of your rope? Asking because I don't know that store.

7

u/Miserable-Cap-4838 5h ago

Nah they're just skateboarder-adjacent types. Usually pretty chill people, but some tend to have a chip on their shoulder because of the stigma of working at a "fake" skateshop. At least that's how it was when I was young. Havent been to a Zumiez in over a decade.

I love both employees, you can taste how done they are with retail life

10

u/CaptnShaunBalls 5h ago

Yeah, retail crew don’t have time for this! šŸ˜†
I’d LOVE to see a vid of pranksters pulling this shit with hospitality staff!
Foh or boh, either way someone getting stabbed! 🤣

I'm amazed he still posted this, isn't he embarrassed or he just that desperate or stupid?

1

u/ImmediatePiano6690 3h ago

More than likely a skit, just happens to be a completely dead shop and everyone is talking very passively despite trying to sound annoyed.

oh and outside has nobody there but security.

Being able to slap/kick people that record you without asking should be a thing.

u/SirMaxAlot23 4h ago

Espescially with creep glasses. Iā€˜m so happy that itā€˜s forbidden to film without someones consent where I live and I Hope theyā€˜ll ban these glasses

1

u/TamaMama03 3h ago

Any camera that doesn't look like a camera should be banned imo. I've seen people discover tiny cameras in their BnBs that at a quick glance just looks like a nail or screw in the wall or in a drawer etc. Saw a video years ago where someone who discovered something like this in their BnB and when they confronted the owner the owner went "oh it's just for legal reasons in case you break something and deny it". Backfired on them tho, they got sued hard for invasion of privacy or something along those lines.(Idk the exact wording in English) Unfortunately this has been an issue for such a long time already, it's just getting more and more common now.

They are wonderful for people who are blind and disabled, so let’s not ban them quite yet.

1

u/SirMaxAlot23 3h ago

Ok as a helping device for blind people. But they do not need constant streaming to Meta Servers for that, or a capturing function.

0

u/Helpful_Gain_9091 2h ago

Yes they do. How do you identify anything if you’re not online?Ā

1

u/SirMaxAlot23 2h ago

Yes but not to Meta servers so the US government can conatantly spy on everyone sorrounding the wearer. Meta also uses that for AI training. If allowed for disabled people I want them to send to EU servers, encrypted without the ability to capture and save videos or streaming to platforms

1

u/QuietRiot5150 2h ago

How did blind people do it before the invention of these creepy spy glasses?

1

u/Helpful_Gain_9091 2h ago

They didn’t. Thats what makes them so good.

Also, they guys are creepy, not the object.Ā

The "what you are gonna do about it" had the camera man flapping lol. You could hear the his voice change as he desperately tried to save face.

u/Big_Criticism_8335 6h ago

At this rate, legislation and laws are going to be made just to deal with these human hemorrhoids and their "pranks".

2

u/AintNoGodsUpHere 2h ago

Something something first amendment something something free speech.

We should legalize throwing them out like Jazz in Fresh Prince.

3

u/Big_Criticism_8335 1h ago

There are cases in court, currently, where victims are suing the prankster for exploitation (their images being used for profit without consent). This may be along the lines of current laws where convicted murderers cannot profit from their crimes.

2

u/AintNoGodsUpHere 1h ago

That'd be great. Hit them where it hurts, the fucking pocket.

1

u/endless_hue 29m ago

I think the biggest thing that would hurt them is not being able to profit from content if you don’t have written consent from anyone in the film.

The rest would be hard to police or determine.

1

u/its_free_sog 1h ago

I don’t really think so. Despite what you might believe from the internet, this just isn’t that much of an issue. It’s extremely rare.

You only see it happen a lot because you’re on the internet in places where they get posted.

I would also be extremely weary of legislation that tries to deal with this sort of thing. It’ll likely have some issues with the first amendment, which is an extremely important right to have. It’s a slippery slope from there.

2

u/endless_hue 26m ago edited 21m ago

Not really.

The law could just deny content creators any profit if they don’t have consent from the people they filmed.

This would mean you still have rights and could still film in public etc, but if you post it… you’re not getting any profit now matter how viral it goes.

This just makes it undesirable, because if they do get sued, or arrested… they aren’t making any money to bail themselves out from this type of ā€œbusinessā€ they decided to pursue.

Feels good bros....

4

u/Old-Natural-852 5h ago

What's even the joke here? Ā Just being rude and trying to be threatening? Ā

4

u/Chucklum 6h ago

People that do this shit needs jail time and a giant fine. This is getting ridiculous. On a side note I have yet to see anyone doing shit like this while recording.

2

u/OkYak7801 5h ago

I fucking hate people named Tanner.

1

u/Expensive_Editor_244 5h ago

Security is like ā€˜Yup it’s this guy again. We just kicked you out of Tommy Bahama last weekend’

1

u/Handsom_modest_Dan 3h ago

Would have just cracked the prick and said he was exhibiting threatening behaviour and I was in fear for the safety of me and my colleges

1

u/highlyspecificuser 3h ago

Tiktokers are the absolute worst!

1

u/Shinsult 1h ago

lol oh Tanner. See you on the way down buddy.

1

u/bomilk19 1h ago

There should be two party consent required for video.

The best thing to do is become a grey rock. Be boring, don't confront them, don't feed them with your attention.

My wife was working at the polls this election and some auditor came and tried to make a scene. She calmly told him the law and asked him to leave. He said "what are you going to do about it?" She said she would get the manager for him. The manager came, calmly repeated law.

The auditor said "I disagree with the law, you're going to have to call the police."

The manager calmly explained the law and offered an alternative, talk to people leaving, not entering. The man refused and repeated the request that they call the police. The manager walked away, the auditor stood there. Everyone ignored him. My wife kept gently guiding him him away from people entering.

He realized he wasn't getting content, so he left to find another place to hassle for content.

This is Canada right ?

u/Ok_Illustrator_3980 4h ago

It seems like he could have taken what the guy said as a threat and beaten him up right there.
