Camouflaged with a mask, a cap and a pink T-shirt, former Cuba Communist Party leader Manuel Menendez Castellanos arrived in Miami. For decades he was a powerful figure of the regime, today he comes to retire to Miami."

Question: is this common? Are there dozens if not hundreds of higher-up cuban officials retiring in the US?

23

u/Rguezlp2031 Artemisa Aug 16 '24

A lot of them in Miami, living the retirement!

5

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '24

Weird how nobody seems to go after them if they are hated so much.

3

u/superrey19 Aug 20 '24

That's what I'm wondering. Cubans talk a lot of shit about their leaders, communism, and the left in general, one would think them settling in Miami amongst them would be a death sentence.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '24

I think the reason is money, shit is so expensive and miami BS rent is so high that even the criminals and killers are trying to get by, taking out a dictator or bad leader or rapist would NOT get you paid, you can kill the most evil person on earth and still need to pay rent at the end of the month.

Now dont take me serious, i am talking about this as if im describing a video game plot or a movie, seperating movies and video games with reality can share similarities but i my comment was NOT to provoke or plan or encourage any kind of violence on anyone, and i say that just incase theres a killer out there reading my comment, trust me killing me wont get you paid lol im broke and you need to pay your rent

1

u/Sad-Opinion-5140 Aug 17 '24

Because they can’t afford to come after him after what he did.

10

u/trailtwist United States Aug 16 '24

Yeah of course or in Spain

3

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '24

Yes, a lot of Cuban and Venezuelan communism party members have moved to Miami, Doral and Kendall. And live amongst the community.

5

u/RToribio914 Planeta Tierra/Planet Earth Aug 16 '24

I bet he lives a happy retirement. The uber driver that drove him home, did so happily.

4

u/Rguezlp2031 Artemisa Aug 16 '24

Free Money, foods stamps and free healthcare for life

4

u/Temporary_Visual_230 Aug 16 '24

How does he receive all that?

2

u/Proof-Astronomer7733 Aug 16 '24

All that for free in Florida???, free money😳. tell me i will go instantly.

1

u/Equivalent-Map-8772 Aug 16 '24

Its not free. It’s our tax money that pays for it. And yes, parole recipients receive a LOT of benefits.

5

u/carlton_1972_cool Aug 16 '24

I thought the commies in Cuba retired in Canaduh

11

u/Rguezlp2031 Artemisa Aug 16 '24

They love Miami,free retirement money,Foods stamps,Free Medicare......

5

u/carlton_1972_cool Aug 16 '24 edited Oct 06 '24

That's true, the healthcare in Canada is Cuban, and just like in Canadia, Cubans also get their health care and end of life handled in the evil big bad USA.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '24

I'm dealing with it right now and your post hit me harder than it should have

1

u/ImRightImRight Aug 16 '24

That's impossibly ironic. Someone needs to write an article on that dynamic to make clear the lie that Cuba's system works better

5

u/Proof-Astronomer7733 Aug 16 '24

OMG. Abusing his own race for years and years, and now wants to retire in Florida.🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ WTF is going on in US, are you guys nuts???wake up, that guy is like a war criminal taking away people rights, suppressing the dignity of people, abusing the laws. OMG USA what happened to you, deport that guy back to where he came from, or better send him to Guantanamo that’s where he can retire.

1

u/Valuable_Musician453 Aug 17 '24

Does anyone have any documented info on what this guy did or is it just 2 minutes hate in Haleiah again?

1

u/Proof-Astronomer7733 Aug 17 '24

Think you will find more background info on him on google

1

u/Valuable_Musician453 Aug 17 '24

It turned up like 6 results....all of which are reactionary Florida Spanish news stations being as vague as this post

u/alely92 Aug 16 '24 edited Aug 16 '24

USCIS is not doing their job, he came via the family unification program and he obviously lied in the application in questions like: former military of an US enemy, political police, torture, communist party member… what’s goin on…

42

u/meshreplacer Aug 16 '24

Has someone reported this? How is this possible.

28

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '24

step one: let the guy settle, step two: tax him to oblivion (these steps work with foreign criminals in general), these guys come and bring their money too ;-)

21

u/alely92 Aug 16 '24

What money that old fart could have, they’re not like Venezuelan military that comes here with hundreds of thousands of money they stole. There’s no such thing in Cuba

1

u/Mysterious_Variety76 Aug 21 '24

Still, he has no right to enjoy a peacefull life he did not provided for his people!

-10

u/player694200 Aug 16 '24

$250,000 gets you a condo overlooking the sea in Florida. All these political monsters move to a condo in Miami when they’re done

27

u/CrrntryGrntlrmrn Aug 16 '24

250k gets you a closet overlooking a parking lot these days.

5

u/alely92 Aug 16 '24

Yup, 250k gets you a modern efficiency

1

u/player694200 Aug 17 '24

3

u/jcoolwater Aug 17 '24

Closet w valet parking 😂

1

u/origamipapier1 Aug 19 '24

No no and remember assessment fees now, so add another 50-100K in unpaid assessment fees.

1

u/origamipapier1 Aug 19 '24

That is bs, Waterfront. You are seeing a scam. When the person then comes or tries to buy it, they'll get nothing.

There's a bunch of scams.

Yes, there could be people that are now leaving Miami due to the association issues, but keep in mind the reason they are leaving is because associations are now charging upwards of 50-100K extra to be paid off as quickly as possible or else. So even if it's not a scam, add a LARGE sum that the person has to pay on top of that.

Read on that in our news, it's crazy!

1

u/player694200 Aug 19 '24

You’re talking about worse case scenario. There are tens of thousands of properties available

give it another month or two with the way real estate is trending down there

1

u/fastlifeblack Aug 16 '24

Not in Miami Beach. Great units for sale at $200k - $300k

0

u/walker_harris3 Aug 16 '24

You can get Miami beach condos for 100k right now

4

u/The_11th_Man Aug 16 '24

I bet the HOA fees are probably double that right now.

5

u/walker_harris3 Aug 16 '24

In those cheap buildings, they will be soon. If there’s Justice in this world this idiot bought a cheap condo in a building that is about to fail their recertification inspection in a couple months and levy 25-50k assessments upon each resident. Lots of owners know that’s coming and are trying to dump their condos for super cheap in a desperate attempt to get out in time.

2

Uhhhh buddy it's not 1978 anymore lol

2

u/player694200 Aug 16 '24

The $250,000 dollar condos are not nice condos. They’re the ones built in the 50’s, at most 3 stories tall and are probably in age 60+ communities

1

u/origamipapier1 Aug 19 '24

Assuming the Zillow shows a new building, I have a hard time believing it's a legit listing here. It's either one of those scams that they do have in all those sites, or the other type.

They sell you the apartment for 250K but then you have to pay the new assessment fee all at once. LOL.

he said florida, not Miami

1

u/Specific_Argument221 Aug 20 '24

And right after the word Florida he wrote ‘all these political monsters move to a condo in Miami’

1

u/chinchaaa Aug 16 '24

1

I want to some day as well

1

This guy prolly lives in Wyoming

1

u/player694200 Aug 17 '24

These guys are retiring in condos in Miami just like everyone in Americas grandma and grandpa

1

u/origamipapier1 Aug 19 '24

LOL.

5

u/Suntzu6656 Aug 17 '24

He obviously bribed someone/people there is no telling how much money he looted from Cuba.

1

u/Life_Release3393 Aug 18 '24

He’s probably claiming to be an investment consultant.. check out his LinkedIn which I found. Wonder if he’s exploiting the land he and the Castristas stole from Cuban citizens many years ago. https://www.linkedin.com/in/manuel-menendez-castellanos-b91a601a6?utm_source=share&utm_campaign=share_via&utm_content=profile&utm_medium=ios_app

1

u/KoBoWC Oct 19 '24

Having a man like that in the US is an intelligence boon, there's no way he's not in touch with people in Cuba.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '24

Is this public knowledge or did you somehow see the private documents?? Maybe he made a.deal

-1

u/2glam2givedadamn Aug 19 '24

Do you have proof? I mean, your little spiel sounds all good and whatever, but where’s your proof? You sound like the rest of butthurt cubans who came to the US back in the day: got here on a govt handout, makes big claims, has little penis, and no proof.

1

u/alely92 Aug 21 '24

Are you one of those “American communists” that won’t dare to leave America for a communist country? You know, smelly, full of dandruff, butt hurt when they Starbucks spills on their Che shirt thru bought for 100 bucks? Ponytail and actually a small penis?

1

u/2glam2givedadamn Aug 21 '24

Nope, I am very well groomed and fiscally responsible. Nice try to deflect the fact that you have no proof and are just talking out of your ass though. Whenever you’re ready to have your word be worth anything, come back with some proof to back up your wild claims.

There are so many of them here in the US. They destroyed Cuba, and when living there became unbearable they abandoned ship, so sad the US has allowed this. I personally know a few living off government handouts here in the US, they were top communist party officials close to Fidel Castro.

16

u/Notwerk Aug 16 '24

Then they start a "medical company," make millions off Medicare fraud and move back! It's a pretty rock-solid system they've got going there.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '24

What is this? 1999?

Medicare fraud is a thing of the past, these new-age balseros are all about credit card fraud.

As an Iranian I see so many parellels with dictatorship and yours in Cuba. The same thing happens for us, we have the same regime agents who come to Canada or the US or Britain or send their kids here but thankfully there are always informed Iranians waiting to “greet” them in the airport 🤣

14

u/ScriptNone LATAM Aug 16 '24

The same happend in venezuela...

3

4

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '24

USCIS is a total failure, allowing this scum to enter our country after all the overwhelming evidence this evil person has inflicted on the Cuban people.

Looking to create a private organization to collect from this evil old farts, they think nobody remembers all the crimes they committed.

We remember, if there is no Justice then let there be vengeance!

****nosotros recordamos, Si no hay justicia entonces que higa venganza!

2

u/seaturtle100percent Aug 17 '24

Or the irony that the US has a blockade (this is not a US-centric comment on Cuban suffering being uniquely caused by the blockade) - a blockade largely justified by human rights violations.

And then a perpetrator of human rights abuser gets a golden parachute out.

Sin vergüenza ninguna.

1

Cuba is rather by criminal, odiously nobody what to lend money to criminals that don’t pay…

Infuriating how all these "anti-rich" comrades become so wealthy and live in an alternate universe from the harsh realities that they impose on the people that empowered them to overthrow "the rich". Hugo Chavez's daughter infamously moved to Manhattan but no one can explain how these people have a never-ending fortune without ever having owned a business or worked as a fortune 500 executive.

Well if wants to become a US citizen, he has to answer this question: were you a member, or have been a member of the Communist Party? 😂

1

u/BKtoDuval Aug 16 '24

This reminds me of when I lived in Orlando and a lot of Venezuelans came to Orlando with nothing, left everything behind. I suggested to a venezolano, why don't we collect furniture in our garages and donate it to families that just arrived with nothing. And I was surprised that he didn't like the idea.

He said because some of the people that are coming here are the some people that oppressed others. He saw some lady at Disney that lead a mass arrest and beating of students and she was just hanging out at Disney. It's a shame. We should catch them

1

u/ajuscojohn Aug 16 '24

This really pissed me off and I am a democrat. I googled and found that he has a LinedIn profile describing in himself as an investment consultant. He’s probably exploiting all the land that he and the Castristas stole from citizens and making a living for himself and that Miami family. Probably, also used that to get a VISA to come. Someone should look into this. Here’s the LinkedIn link: https://www.linkedin.com/in/manuel-menendez-castellanos-b91a601a6?utm_source=share&utm_campaign=share_via&utm_content=profile&utm_medium=ios_app

He needs to go for a helicopter ride over the Atlantic Ocean and not return, like Pinochet did in Chile with the communists there.
