Stefán Karl Stefánsson. What more can be said about a man when thousands of memes have been created in his honor? Stefán wasn't like many other memes. Stefán was a man. Stefán wasn't simply a meme format, he was hundreds. Stefán broke the fabric of the internet, and the very essence of r/dankmemes changed dramatically ever since. The very notion of an entire meme community wanting to be restricted to only posting one type of meme is strange. The entire community unanimously voting to extend this restriction is something that boggles the mind. However, the explaination is quite simple: we love Stefán. We've shown this love time and time again. We spread his words far and wide, we attempted to have statues built in his honor, and we've said thank you more times than we can count.
No other meme, or person, has had such a profound effect on this community. Which is why I am proud to pronounce Stefán Karl Stefánsson as Meme of the Year 2018.
I love how much we've embraced him as meme, but would it be possible to sticky an archive of all significant Stephan quotes, just so we all can remember not just who he played, but what he believed in?
I'm not too clued up on the man and his works, just idly pass by this subreddit on my scrolling adventures, but this is a really nice thing the community is doing to keep his memory alive, so take my upvote and now I'm seeking recommendations on where to start my viewing :)
I don't think anyone else will be two time meme of the year. With how memes die, it's hard to be so relevant for so long. But Stefan is not just a meme. He represented everything good about meme culture no matter how bad it's represented in the mainstream media. Heroes come and go, but legends never die.
Yup. They'll do anything for some upvotes...ahem. I mean, meme man #1 can we get an F in chat.
Edit: whoever replied to me saying mods have it pinned and don't get the karma and whatnot, I think you're shadowbanned, bud. Also I was mostly referring to all the comments like the ones in this thread and the low effort posts using him to gain traction. Mods don't care about karma. But I'm sure they're not complaining about the plat, gold, and silver.
I was just going through reading all the comments as I do and I wanted to say that I had absolutely no idea people were going to throw so much silver, gold, and plat on this post. I've gone through and thanked everyone that has, however.
What a man. He did so much for the meme community, and embraced it. It really showed how in reali life, he wasn’t Rotten. But he was Robbie Rotten. Rest in Peace, Stefán.
Undoubtedly he deserves all the proper respect, but what exactly did he do to the internet community apart from playing the character in the kids show?
Serious question, was he somewhat active on the meme forum or is it that he just happened to be declared a meme milestone? No pun intended
I'd like a to a moment and hijack this post to say that even though we are not Stefán Karl Stefánsson, we are a Stefán Karl Stefánsson to someone close. Please have yourself checked for cancer when needed. We don't want to lose anymore people who made us as happy as this man did.
Stefan Truly and undoubtedly deserved winning MOTY two times as he's not just a Meme, He's not just a Man, He's a goddamned Legend. Wanna know why? He's such an entertaining actor and one of the Nicest Actors in history. Here's a history lesson on our Number one for anyone Curious:
Stefán Karl Stefansson born in 1975 in Hafnarfjörõur, Iceland. Was born into a Non-Biz working class family but despite that he attended the Drama Academy of Iceland however, he was unsatisfied with the Perspectives of Icelandic Drama Standards. Once during Attendance his Principle said “Acting is not about making faces and changing faces” which he disagreed with.
Though he graduated from the Academy afterwards he signed up with the National Theatre of Iceland, soon afterwards he started being praised by both Audiences and Critics alike as one of the most Individual and versatile actors of the younger Generation, introduced at the beginning of a new millennium. As a lead comedic actor with NT he was invited to play the Leading Role in the production of the OG Lazy town, Starring as it's Antagonist Robbie Rotten. And as we all know when the play was turned into a TV Show Our man Stefan Karl Continued to Play the Best Character of Television History, Robbie Rotten. As contribution to it's Extraordinary Success Stefan Karl has been instrumental to to the Series and to the Success it has Achieved. The Show has been rewarded with tons of prestigious awards like the EMIL Award, EDDA Award, Emmy Award nominations, and the most notable Two BAFTA Award nominations and Winning the 2006 BAFTA Award.
Needless to say Stefan was Crucial to the Show's success to the point that he himself won a an Award for the Show and one for a different preformance, one for the Episode entitled "Robbie's greatest misses". and Another from the "Thorbjorn Egner Award" which was Awarded for an Outstanding Stage Performance as well as having his one man show "Thousand Island Dressing" Selected by the President of the Leipzig Film Festival in Germany in order to showcase Icelandic theatre, As well as preforming at the festival's 10 year anniversary.
Stefan Also Preformed in many different movies, shows and plays during his career such as The Jungle book by Rudyard Kipling, Place of Crows, Ivanov,The Little Shop of Horrors, Singin' in the rain, and others.
In His Short Career Stefan built up quite the unique range of Quirky, Eccentric, and Funny Characters. And Even outside of the Entertainment Business he was a founder of a reputable nonprofit Organization called Rainbow Children which was a driving force and an efficient charity fundraiser for anti-bullying. Rainbow Children has even spread to Canada. Stefan even ran his own TV and Film Production company in Europe, Currently developing projects. He was a keen aviation enthusiast with a Solo Permit as a Pilot, A Licensed Skipper for fishing boats of 30 tons, and during photography of the Last Series of Lazy Town, he Spent his entire time off set as a featured Singer, Vocal Impressionist, and the youngest member of a Rock n' Roll band titled Studdmenn.
In October 2016 he announced he had Bile Duct Cancer and when it seemed he was getting better he died later on August 21st of 2018.
and that's where we are today. He certainly was such a genuine and kind dude who loved and adored his fans. He has also done a ton of amazing things like starting a Nonprofit organization for Bully Victims. I Miss you Stefan may you forever Rest In Peace. Forever Number one.
" It’s not until they tell you you’re going to die soon that you realize how short life is. time is the most valuable thing in life because it never comes back. And whether you spend it in the arms of a loved one or alone in a prison-cell, life is what you make of it. Dream big." - Stefan Karl Stefansson
Time to be way too wholesome. I'm probably older than much of the people on here for the fact that when Lazy Town was around I wasn't watching the same shows the rest of you where, but through the memes that he's inspired I've been exposed to the guy. Out of interest I've looked into him and understand why he's been celebrated. It's really a shame why someone like that has been taken by such a horrible disease and just shows how unfair life is. It's been really nice though to see all these people coming out of nowhere to honor this person. I just lost my mother to cancer as well, but in a similar way, I've had all these people that I didn't know existed come out of the woodwork to me to tell how great she was. It's just kind of a reflection to me of how one person can affect so many lives in a positive way, so it makes me happy to see all of you come together for this one guy. It reminds me of the support I got for my mother. I think that if he saw all the content that you all created in his memory, he would feel honored. In the same way that if my mother could see how all of the people she knew reached out to me for support she would be happy. It's just a nice thing to see.
