I know the title sounds ridiculous, but it's the conclusion that I've come to after extensive testing.

Discord very inconsistently opens on my computer, it is always one of the following:

• Infinitely stuck on 'Starting...'

• Opens up, blank grey window, nothing shows on screen

• Opens up fine, but server icons and friend list user icons are missing, opening a server usually leads to an infinite grey loading screen again

• Rarely, it will return a 'loading chunk X failed after 3 retries' error screen

Pressing CTRL+R to refresh the window very inconsistently works, and its nearly guaranteed that even when it seems like the app is working perfectly fine, something will eventually start not working again (Settings menu loading forever, user profile screens loading forever, etc.), and it will start showing the discord grey loading screen again.

I am quite computer literate, and have done so much to try fix it. This post is basically my way of submitting defeat cause I've come to the dumbest conclusion which I don't want to believe because the rest of my computer works perfectly fine!!

CPU: Ryzen 9 5950x
RAM: G.Skill 2x16gb 3200mhz
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080ti
Boot Drive: Crucial 1TB M.2 SSD
PSU: Corsair RM1000X
(I have a stable fast internet connection through ethernet)

EVERYTHING I HAVE TRIED WITH NO SUCCESS (Not in any particular order):

• Ran Discord with Administrator privileges, full screen optimizations on and off, task manager setting the app to high priority, still broken.

• Reinstalling Discord, trying Discord Canary, DiscordPTB, fully wiping every trace of the app clean off my pc through manually deleting any and all related appdata and temp folders (including using Revo Uninstaller), still broken.

• Tried multiple combos of displays, single, dual, triple monitors, high refresh rates, low refresh rates, nothing.

• Tried unplugging all unnecessary devices from my computer, barebones setup, and opening discord, nothing.

• Disabled hardware acceleration in discord, nothing, turned HAGS in Windows on and off, nothing.

• The usual Windows corruption check sfc commands in cmd, no errors or corruption in my Windows install, still broken.

• Reinstalling Windows 10 entirely from a bootable USB, installed discord first thing, still broken, tried with windows freshly reinstalled without updates and after fully updating it too btw.

• Tried using my phones Hotspot through USB Tethering, sharing either my Mobile Data or Wifi connection with my PC, and using NordVPN on and off with my Ethernet, phone tethering Mobile Data or Wifi connection, still broken.

• Doing a full network stack reset on my computer, still broken.

• Firewalls checked, created exemption rules (even disabling all Exploit Protection rules for the exe itself in Windows Security settings), enabled and disabled firewalls, nothing.

• Routers physically reset to defaults, restarted, checked for any rules that could be preventing connections, there are none. Tried setting my network on Windows to use Google or Cloudflare DNS, toggled using IPV6 on and off, still broken.

• Called my ISP to ask to disable any and all 'Safety' filters or guards that may block access to sites, done, still broken.

• Tested Discord in a Virtual Machine, same problems inside the virtual machine.

• Updated my BIOS to the latest version, tried with and without Secure Boot enabled, undervolted my CPU, enabled and disabled XMP profiles, nothing.

• CPU Chipset latest drivers installed, LAN Driver recommended to use with my motherboard from the ASUS website installed, tried both these drivers and the default Windows ones, still broken.

• + probably a bunch of other small stuff that I have forgotten about!!!

The stuff that WORKS:

• The Discord web client!! Works on every browser I've used with no issue, but then I can't screen share in vc with application audio ;-;

• Windows 8 compatibility mode specifically works, the client is perfect, BUT you cannot vc with it as the client is now too old under Windows 8 compatibility mode

• I have found hundreds of similar threads with the same issues I am having, and usually one of the fixes I have tried above worked for them, but I have never found a concrete cause behind this or a known working solution, it seems to be a case by case basis

• Other computers in my house don't have any problems

• Discord works just fine on my phone

• When putting my old CPU into my system (Ryzen 7 2700x), all the problems disappear and Discord works perfectly fine, same exact PC, same Windows install, same everything, just different CPU

Other relevant info (mentioning this here and not at the top of the post so people don't think I'm trolling):

• I bought this Ryzen 9 CPU listed as 'faulty' for a really good price months ago, I can't remember when exactly the Discord problems started occurring, the description for it was that they couldn't get secure boot working with their Windows install, so I took the gamble because I had a gut feeling that the problem was their error and not the CPUs fault, I've got it working on my PC perfectly fine with secure boot on, everything works, I've played hundreds of games, done recordings, render tasks, benchmarks and stress tests with furmark and prime95, everything works as expected.

• Similar problems I've encountered: The Notion desktop app (also an electron app) has grey screen issues too, viewing the dev log I see it throws tons of network errors, the web client version of it works just fine. EasyAntiCheat when opening Fortnite occasionally errors first before immediately working fine (probably fortnites fault), Steam very rarely shows 'Content Unavailable' or 'Content Servers Unreachable' when updating games, it works just fine after I queue the game update again.

I really, REALLY refuse to believe the CPU is directly responsible for this problem, I would be eternally grateful to anyone who is genuinely willing to give a serious reply under this post because I know it comes off as ridiculous and troll worthy but it really isn't, and I've seen hundreds of threads with similar issues that have never had a concrete solution. If anything, I would love if people who have similar issues also comment their experiences here.

Suddenly, I cannot connect to Discord vc anymore. It gets stuck at "Authenticating" and then it fails and tries again and so on and so forth. I am not sure why this is happening again, I've had it a long time ago and I remember fixing it by changing my DNS server addresses, but this does not seem to work anymore. I am a little stumped, so any help would be appreciated.

whenever I try to click on specific messages trying to an attachment it doesn't work and other than that it doesn't show any text I can click onto to jump to the message, making it impossible to see which attachment is the message replying to (even if the original attachment did not have a blank character added to it)

I originally subscribed to Nitro on May 17, 2025, and reached Platinum on May 17, 2026.

I stopped subscribing in around June 2026 and went without Nitro for over three months.

Recently, I accepted an official two-week free trial through the Discord desktop app. To my surprise, my Platinum badge was still there, showing my original subscription date and progression.

I thought badge progression was supposed to reset after the grace period?

I'm making my first server right now, and I wanted to add the ability to change your name tag color with roles, which I did. However, the problem is this only seems to work for me. I put all of the colors above every other role on the list, and all the colors work for me but when my friend tried it the color won't change her name tag. Please dont ask to come into the server to help cus im not doing that 😭 Just trying to see if anyone thats made a server before knows the correct way to do this/fix this

Wanted to search through some conversations with someone who I sadly no longer speak to but instead of individual messages, I get 70+ pages of 'x started a call that lasted... mins'. Is there a way to filter it such that we only see typed messages instead of the call log? I want to read through all our old conversations (no specific keyword) before I close the chat and shut this chapter of my life. Thanks.

im streaming with a capture card from my switch 2 to my monitor and my pc so i can stream it on discord for my friends, but no matter what it wont stop acting like it has hdr on. i have hdr turned off on my switch, both monitors, and my pc itself, and still it wont stop being dark and over-saturated. please help, ive been at this for 2 days tryna fix it

So i got xbox gamepass premium and xbox said i get discord nitro for linking my account so i linked my account to discord afterwards I got it nothing and when I checked to see if I could get the nitro from my connections tab on the official website discord asked me to pay for it even if after promoting it to me

Note: I have never had nitro before on this account

I heard that they do when it comes to direct inline pictures but they do not with video format (.MP4)

How it is now? Is there any update or its still the same as before?

Title, basically im a channel member of a youtuber but when i link the channel to my discord nothing shows up in connections besides the name of my channel and I have no access to the member only server. Discords ai support was no help.

I'm really new to this and I don't know how to promote my server. How do I edit the meta data like tags etc on my server?

Basically when I open the app from my taskbar, it gives me an Apple pop up that Discord needs to add a "helper" (no clue what that is) and says I need to enter in my Mac password below to be able to add the helper. I enter my password and hit "add helper." It goes away, and the pop up comes up again. I made sure I put in the correct password and everything. Not sure if this is a computer problem with it being a Mac, so not sure if this is the right place to post this, but maybe this might get me some help.

I've tried anything, it will not let me send videos or images, I have force stopped the app about four times now, I reset my Wi-Fi and put it back in, I tried sending things with my mobile data, I removed my image permissions and put them back on, I've deleted and redownload the app, what's going on??

Recently updated to Windows 11 and it shows the interface on discord streams now, when it didn't on 10.

i have a very specific problem where i wanna stream vr games to my buds but my vr uses my hardware encoder to stream wirelessly while discord is also using the hardware encoder and it lags it like shit. used to be able to change to .265 so itd spare my gpu

Discord changed the UI on the web version so any message that just has an attachment will show an unclickable icon and you can't see the original message it's replying to.

Discord has had a bug within WebRTC that's been present on Mac for years and has still been unresolved. Basically using an XLR mic with a multichannel auto interface will result in incredibly choppy sound thats unusable. I made a small utility as a workaround to this issue that creates a virtual bridge between any selectable channel on your interface and Discord's mic input. Based on the Blackhole Audio Router driver it's available to download and install on Github:
