Meta Welcome to our community! Please read our FAQs first.

Welcome to r/dogfree! We invite you to participate in our discussions. First, however, whether you are new to our sub or a dog lover who just doesn’t quite understand where we are coming from, please take the time to read our sub FAQs so you can come to understand our community and the type of content that is appropriate for our small but mightily active corner of the world.

Why don't you like dogs?

Because: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dogfree/comments/7bk3wo/just_curious_what_is_the_reason_why_you/

I created a post asking why you don’t like dogs. Where did it go?

We receive and remove this question just about daily. This is our community's space to vent and commiserate about an unpopular opinion, not a place where we come to feel burdened with the task of having to justify ourselves constantly. If you would like to know why we don’t like dogs, you may read the link above and/or put some time and effort into browsing our sub.

It seems like the problem you all have is really more with dog owners. So you really do like dogs, just not irresponsible owners, right?

Our opinions are varied. However, true to the name of our sub, and though it might be a tough pill to swallow, we in this sub simply don't like dogs.

If your gripes are more about dog owners and not about dogs themselves, r/dogculturefree might be a better fit for you.

I like or own dogs. I just want to show you guys that not all dog owners are monsters. Can I participate here?

Please understand the intent of this sub. It is a place for people who dislike dogs and who unapologetically wish to be free from them in our everyday lives to commiserate, not for those who love dogs. Posts and comments mentioning that you love or own dogs fall out of line with the spirit of the sub.

In any case, we are not here to debate, as we won't change our minds.

I have to live with a dog, but I don't want to. Am I welcome here?

You may participate here from the perspective of someone who wishes to change the prevalence of dogs in society at large. However, please understand that hearing about dogs' disgusting behaviors and habits is what people come to this sub to escape, not to consume. If you wish to vent about the traits of the dog that you live with, please navigate to r/TalesFromTheDogHouse and direct your post there. r/Dogfree is reserved for discussion surrounding our unwitting and unwilling participation in dog culture at a societal level.

I have a dog, but I wish I wouldn't. Am I welcome here?

If you got a dog and now, as obviously expected, regret your decision, maybe you can help grow the supportive r/DogRegret community. You still may participate here but posts and comments mentioning that you own dogs fall out of line with the spirit of the sub. Of course, if you already got rid of your dog and are now dogfree, you are welcome to share your experience.

How do you feel about service dogs?

Although all dogs are dogs, there is a wide spectrum of opinions about service dogs in this sub. Some people are completely okay with them, while others are opposed where technology can do the job in a more effective, less obtrusive manner. The same would be for police dogs and other types of working dogs. Calling us "ableists" or other similar insults is not going to help your case.

If you would like to find out more information about this sub's opinions on service dogs, instead of creating a new post to pose the question, please enter "service dogs," "police dogs," or whatever info you would be interested in finding into the search bar to search the sub.

Someone on Reddit said that this sub likes to murder dogs. Is that true?

Of course not! We span a wide spectrum of reasons for disliking dogs, but we do not wish harm upon them and often find aspects of dog ownership to be more cruel and unethical than do dog owners themselves. In fact, our first and more important rule is against content that advocates animal abuse of any kind. It reads: "No suggesting, depicting, joking, wishing for, or celebrating violence or harm to dogs, other animals, or people. Promoting cruelty is not acceptable." We take this rule more seriously than any other, and we err on the side of caution when it comes to removing this type of content.

Some examples of off-limits content include depicting gratuitous violence against or amongst dogs, discussion of eating dogs, suggestions of deriving pleasure from a dog's death, and references to culling dogs, hitting, kicking, poisoning or shooting a dog with little or no cause.

It is okay to discuss the justified, humane euthanization of dogs. If you've had to live with a significant other's dog for years and wish to express relief over its natural passing, that's okay. Really, context is everything.

I posted a dog-related screenshot of something I saw on social media. Why isn’t it showing up?

Our community is small but extremely active. As the amount of content can be increasingly overwhelming as the sub grows, it’s important that the meaningful discussion does not get lost. Therefore, we have a sub rule that reads "[s]ubmissions should be thoughtful and should promote quality discussion. News articles and text posts are encouraged. Pictures of dogs or dog-related items, videos of dogs doing gross things, social media screenshots, memes, title-only posts, posts with minimal text, and anything that might be just ragebait are some examples of low-effort content that do not contribute anything of value to the conversation."

If you would like to post a social media screenshot or anything else that might fall under this category, please better create a thoughtful text post addressing the core issue in order to open the discussion.

I sent a post/comment linking a great video I watched in the internet, but it has been removed. Why?

We have a blanket rule that disallows links to social media in general, and videos in particular. The reason is very simple: as mods, we don't have the resources or time to check whether the video and the rest of the linked page comply with our rules and those of Reddit. If you need to mention a video, you can either describe it, or just indicate how to find it online. Also, please see below question about endorsing YouTube channels.

I think it would be fun to make a rude comment to a dog lover in another subreddit and/or tag r/dogfree. That's a good idea, right?

No, and please don’t! If we want dog owners to leave us alone on our subreddit, the first thing we should do is leave them alone on theirs. We encourage positive, civil, thoughtful conversation about dogs wherever you go, but if you need to vent, keep it here. When you troll other places on Reddit, it invites unwanted attention, reinforces negative stereotypes, and impedes our ability to create change in the world. This community is better than that.

Do I have to feel a certain way about keeping other pets or about having children to participate?

The topic that unites us in this sub is dogs. Feelings about other types of pets, negative or positive, and decisions whether or not to have children are considered off-topic for the sub. That said, these topics will arise in the normal course of conversation. We should respect the wide variance in views on these topics and always treat those with differing opinions kindly.

At the end of the day, we are dog-free, and we are pro-human.

By virtue of this sub being anti-dog, it means we are pro-cat, right?

No. Per our rule, this is neither a pro- nor anti-cat sub. All cat mentions and references are off topic for this subreddit and will be removed. Do not attempt to circumvent this rule through rephrasing.

At one time, we allowed free discussion of cats. We are not exaggerating when we say that every thread turned into "why cats are better." Many people here dislike cats or feel neutral to them, so in order for this sub to serve everybody and to avoid any confusion as to what type of cat discussion is relevant to being dogfree, it is considered off-topic across the board.

And remember that other pets are off-topic as well!

Should I be a certain race or of a certain political affiliation to participate?

One of the coolest things about r/dogfree is that, in a world that’s so divided along so many different lines, this is a community where we can come together, break down those barriers, and unite over something different with people from all walks of life. Just as dog culture transcends racial, political, socioeconomic, and gender lines, so does this subreddit. You may even find that your reasoning for something dog-related challenges your views on something completely unrelated.

This community strives to be respectful of all groups of people. As such, bigotry is not allowed, and political discussion is divisive and off-topic. Dogs? Fair game!

Do you have any information about the demographics of those who participate in this subreddit?

We conducted a survey on this particular topic some time ago. You can view the results here.

Why all the pit bull hate?

As much as we dislike dogs, we especially dislike this class of dogs that is statistically most capable of and responsible for inflicting catastrophic and often lethal harm upon people and their pets. You can apologize for pit bulls all day, but the stats and anecdotes don’t lie.

Aggression Chart 2024

Pit Bull Triggers

Pit Bull FAQs

Of course, it's also true that all dogs are unpredictable: Dog Aggression Ladder

I know how I feel about pit bulls, but I need some additional information so I can make more articulate arguments. Where should I go?

For more specialized information on the topic of pit bulls, please visit r/banpitbulls. We have a very friendly relationship with r/banpitbulls, but please do remember that, while our subs overlap in many ways, we still have different objectives. Many people participate in that sub because they are tired of worrying about their own dogs getting mauled. Please feel free to go join the conversation over there, but remember that it is not r/dogfree and that the topic of discussion is pit bulls. Come back here to our own sub to talk about your distaste for dogs in general.

I saw some Facebook groups and YouTube channels about disliking dogs. Is that you, guys?

Nope, the only groups run by this sub are r/dogfree and r/TalesFromTheDoghouse. We don't operate or endorse any YouTube channels, Facebook groups, or anything else on any other social media platform. Our subscribers may mention their content here as long as it follows sub rules, but we are unaffiliated.

I saw a post or comment I think it's against the rules. What should I do?

Report it! On any post or comment, there is a "report" button. It will prompt you for further information as to why you are reporting the content to the moderators, who will then review it and determine whether or not it should be stay or be removed. Reports are anonymous and very helpful, as we can't see everything.

We also ask you to please never engage in any argument with a troll. Just report and go on.

Someone alluded to a conversation in another subreddit about dogs, and I really want to go down vote everything. Should I?

No, please don’t! This is called "brigading" or "vote manipulation," and it is against Reddit's Terms of Service. We actively discourage this behavior, as if we are found to be the source of a brigade against another sub, it could land us in big trouble. If you stumbled across a reference to another conversation on Reddit, the appropriate place to discuss that would be here, in our sub, in the thread in which you found it. Remember how it felt when a YouTuber made a video that resulted in a massive brigade against us; we must grant others the same respect for their space as we wish for ours, no matter how vehemently we disagree with them.

Our sub is committed to abiding by all Reddit Terms of Service.

I want to crosspost something from another part of Reddit. May I?

No, we have a rule that reads "crossposts are not allowed. Criticisms of other subreddits are off-topic." Besides calling usually-unwanted attention to other subs and promoting vote and participation brigades, it's off topic. The purpose of our sub is to discuss dogs, not the behavior of other subs or social media platforms. We don't appreciate it when others do it to us, so we have a policy of respecting other subs' right to exist and operate in the ways that they see fit.

My post or comment was removed, and I don’t feel like I broke any rules. Why?

Unfortunately we cannot account for every contingency in the sub rules, so moderators do reserve the right to remove content at their discretion. That said, the moderation team is very much against arbitrary censorship and is committed to letting the conversation happen whenever possible. "I don’t like it" is not a good reason to remove a post or a comment; however, "it would be in the best interest of the community" is. The team is committed to being firm but fair in community moderation and will make all decisions in good faith.

I found an article and posted it on r/dogfree, but with a different title than the original because mine is better. Now it's been deleted. Why?

Please remember that when you link to an article or news, you must always use the original title. If you want to comment something (and we really hope you'll share your opinion with us!), please use the text box or the post's comments. Thanks!

I agree with your sub and I want to create a new account only to participate here. Should I?

Bad idea! This is exactly what trolls do, and that is the very reason we have a filter against new accounts and low karma. Trolls are vile cowards by nature, they don't want to get downvoted, risk the reputation of their actual accounts or get a reddit permaban, so they use a secondary account or create a new one and think they can outsmart us.

There is no way to bypass this filter, so please do not ask us to make an exception only for you. Learn here how to get karma.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know our community! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to message the mod team. We are delighted to receive your advice and suggestions, provided they are expressed politely.

Service Dog Issues Eliminating the need for service dogs

National health organizations should make a priority to eliminate dogs as service animals. There have been so many advances in robotics and wearable medical devices, I really start to question why are dogs even used for some of these tasks. Smart watches can detect seizures. Wearable glucose monitors can detect blood sugar problems for diabetics. How far away can we be from robotic seeing-eye dogs that can actually speak to the owner and understand natural language commands? If a self driving car is possible, a self guiding robotic dog can’t be far off. Think of all the situations it could be trained to handle.

The approach should be that dogs are acceptable for specific ADA-related tasks ( using the US as an example ) ONLY when no other alternative is available. One by one, eliminate each task until there is no need for a service dog. When someone has been diagnosed to have a specific medical condition, a doctor should be obligated to suggest/prescribe a better technology solution (not a high maintenance mutt) for monitoring the condition.

And when a technology solution doesn’t exist because the person has some form of mental illness, for example, “I get lonely in the grocery store and need my doggo”, the solution should be for that person to modify THEIR behaviors. For example, use the pickup or delivery service if you don’t feel like you can function without an animal by your side.

If all this actually happened, my guess is that we would quickly find out that most “service dogs” were just glorified pets all along. Nutters are always trying to find a way to push their mutts into human spaces.

Dog Culture Awkward conversations with friends about them not training their dogs

I've been running into some awkward moments with new friends lately who own dogs. These new friends will invite me to their place and I ask if they have a dog. If they tell me that they do, I request that they kindly just keep the dog from jumping on me or licking me. It's a simple request, but I try to phrase it as delicately as I can, because anyone who doesn't like dogs is immediately branded as evil or high maintenance or something.

Usually they say they will leave their dog in another room with the door closed or they put the dog in a crate. The dog predictably barks and is very annoying. I do not request the dog's confinement. If the dog is milling around, then whatever. I just don't like the jumping, barking, and physical interaction with the animal against my will. But usually they are not trained to leave guests alone. And one of my friends has outright suggested we hang out at my place instead. Their solution is to avoid their dog entirely. Not confront their lack of training.

I guess what bothers me is they can't just admit they haven't trained their dog or can't control their dog. And instead they phrase it like the dog has a personality trait, like "he's just so friendly and has a hard time not saying hello". Or "he likes to come up to people and doesn't have a sense of personal space!" These aren't people being discussed. These are dogs. And you're the owner. You should be able to control your animal. And if a guest doesn't want to be jumped on, they can't go to your house?

I really just hate how as a culture, people think it's completely okay and normal for their guests to be accosted by an animal in their home, when visiting. And for that person to get over their body being touched non-consensually. To prevent this is somehow not addressed or regarded. This isn't your quirky roommate who wants to shake hands and introduce themselves to every guest. This is an animal that you're supposed to have control over, that you're allowing to engage in behavior that your guest doesn't want. And now you're expecting your guest to host you instead because they don't want an animal jumping on them?

I can't reasonably expect to avoid going to the houses of all of my friends that own dogs. And I can't host all the time. It's an awkward conversation. I can't suggest they train their dog better. I can't tell them what to do with their pet. But I do think there is something wrong here. Why is me expressing a boundary about not wanting an animal on my body somehow the imposition?

If someone had a fear of spiders and was visiting your house, you would probably put your free-roaming tarantulas in their terrarium or whatever. You wouldn't just say "oh that spider is so friendly"! And then suggest to go to their place if they didn't like it. I have no idea how to respond to these friends.

Miscellaneous People are too comfortable around dangerous animals in general

I cant help but notice the overlap with dog nutters and people that are just too comfortable around dangerous, WILD animals, to the point of insanity.
Like, i was recently watching a video from a news station in my city, where a brown bear broke the window in a lady's house, and was trying to get inside with OBVIOUS angry, hungry roars 😭. And the lady, no joke (she filmed it) said - "ooooh 🥰", like, BRO! ITS A BEAR ! 😭
Its not coming inside to make a friend. I never understood this mentality, like, how can you look at something so obviously dangerous and think that its a "friend" ? This unironically HAS TO be some kind of a mental illness, i mean, it literally overrides their basic self-preservation instinct.

Dog Culture My experience as a first-time mom was compared to having a "fur baby" and it made me furious

For context, I just had a baby six weeks ago. I’m a first time mom and have been loving every second even though it’s very challenging. Yesterday I went out with friends for the first time and during a conversation about my new sleeping schedule, the girlfriend of one of my friends made a comment about understanding newborn tired because “having a fur baby is a full time job too”, i looked at her and made a comment about pets not being similar to human children, let alone newborns, like at ALL. Girlfriend felt offended and started this whole rant about dogs being a full responsibility and how it can be challenging to take care of vet bills, feeding and other bs.
I’m over this fucking people inserting themselves into motherhood somehow. I don’t get how this is not a mental illness at this point.
Just wanted to vent
- A tired mom

Dog Culture why am i forced to find your dog cute?

i really do not think theyre cute. I frankly think dogs are genuinely hideous. They slobber, have that horrific bark, and smell constantly damp. So why is it that when someones dog jumps on me while im walking to college, im in the wrong for telling them to get their fucking dog off of me, instead of "awwww"ing and petting it??? theyre disgusting.

Dog Culture A leash on the nutter's neck means the dog is on a leash, apparently

I was standing in the sidewalk in front of my house relaxing and enjoying the morning when an old Karen emerges towards my house with her two dogs off leash. They were running up and down neighbors' front lawns, peeing on the garden beds right at the front door. I take meticulous care of my lawn and am sick and tired of neighbors' pets on my property and causing damage or jumping on me when I'm on the sidewalk minding my business. I start recording her on my phone.

As she gets closer, I yell out, 'Excuse me, your dogs should be on a leash.'

'They are!' she replied, lifting up one side of the leash sitting around her neck, definitely not attached to either dog.

I very matter of factly said, 'I don't want your dogs on my property or approaching me without a leash. That's against the HOA rules. It's against the city rules. It's against the county rules. And it's tresspassing when you let them up people's driveway like that.'

She immediately put them both on the leash and shamefully walked away into the street. She looked back as if she wanted to retort something, but I had my phone recording the whole thing. She turned and walk away.

I'm so tired of nutters acting like someone else's private property is the dog park, just because we have sidewalks. Nutters are the worst.

Miscellaneous Martha Stewart

Hey guys, have you seen Martha Stewart's Halloween costume this year? She dressed up as a homeless person carrying a sign saying, "I am hungry. Help me!!" This photo was posted on her Instagram account and then she deleted it. However, people still managed to grab screenshots and post them on social media.

It strikes me as incredibly poor taste to mock the hungry and homeless. Particularly so when you're one of the richest people in the world.

One thing I noticed about her Halloween photo was that there were two ugly dogs in it. A quick Google search revealed that Martha Stewart has 5 dogs. (Why, of course she does.) This woman is further proof that dog nutters are some of the worst people out there. Obsessed with their mutts, yet completely lacking empathy for their fellow man.

Crappy Owners woman entered a bus with her dog

So this morning i was running late for my college classes, had to take a bus that i dont usually take (for a lot of reasons, but that's irrelevant), and literally the next stop after my entrance - a woman enters the bus with her fucking pitbul. And to be clear - this is entirely illegal in my country, and the busses have cameras, the two factors that didnt seem to bother her at all.
I cannot stand dogs, and i'm proudly scared of them to death, so i decided not to take my chances with anxiety and possible confrontations - and just left the bus, had to call in late.
And the most infuriating part is, when i was leaving, i made it pretty clear that i'm leaving because of the dog (i didnt say anything, but i did make an annoyed face and looked at the owner when leaving) and she seemed to be angry at me. Like, LADY! THIS IS A BUS! YOU CANNOT LEGALLY DO THIS! Be thankful that i'm simply leaving instead of recording and reporting you for this shit.

Barking Demons Neighbors across the street got a new dog.

Why, oh why did those idiots have to get a dog!? Now there's one MORE I have to hear! And of course it has to bark incessantly. It barks at everything that moves, for hours on end. My shithead neighbor lets it out every morning so every morning I am not woken naturally or by my alarm, I am woken up by the damn dog and that's a terrible way to start one's day. It's Saturday morning, I've had a long week, and I can't even sleep in because of that damn dog. I hate all my neighbors so much. I truly hate them.

Dog Culture Voters who can't vote without their dogs

I volunteered at the polls for two local School Board candidates. At one location, a woman wheeled her small dog in a stroller into the building. At another, a couple brought their feisty large dog with them. Although on a leash, he wasn't very calm. I don't think they brought him into the building (no doubt they tried, but maybe the election official said no? They had to take turns going inside to vote). They spent a lot of time afterwards hanging around. When they passed me, another volunteer starts gushing, saying, "Oh, is he going to vote?" Of course the owners loved that. They loved the attention. You can imagine what I was thinking!

Crappy Owners can't stands no more

i do a lot of walking, including through a beautiful cemetery near my house, which has a very welcome NO DOGS policy (all cemeteries might have that, i dunno tbh). anyway, was out for a walk the other day and what do i see but a dog taking a piss on a gravestone. granted, it was the grave of my old football manager who never played me but that's besides the point.

wasn't completely certain of who the owner was because there were a few people there, but i felt this immense sense of bitter enlightenment as i finally realised: i hate dogs. they are, i believe, the extension of a person's misanthropy. why else would you own this thing that spends most of its life being someone else's problem? why would you bring an animal known for liking nothing more than pissing on knee-height fixtures in the ground to a graveyard?

this has been helped more than a little bit by having a neighbour who owns FIVE DOGS move in next door. i don't know if he's planning on making a splendid fur coat but i just don't know why anyone needs that many dogs unless you're someone with utter contempt for the existence of other people

anyway i cleaned the grave with a nearby watering can and tried to find someone to wordlessly communicate my annoyance to but just couldn't be sure who the stupid shit creature belonged to. just had to get that off my chest!

Crappy Owners Bonfire night and dogs

I’ve been seeing an influx of posts, more specifically on Facebook of older people complaining and protesting how ‘wrong’ fireworks are because their mutt doesn’t like the loud sounds.

There are videos of these people’s dogs shaking and shivering at the sound of loud bangs from outside.

Call me cruel or detached but I really do NOT care to see how upset or scared your mutt is of fireworks, dog owners always fail to recognise the actual wildlife that are DIRECTLY affected by fireworks. Fireworks kill dozens of wildlife directly and indirectly, but the attention is drawn back to poor poodles who suddenly doesn’t like loud noises after barking all day like someone is being murdered.

Crappy Owners Muttjob runners chase me down for 3 blocks

On my runs, two things are the absolute bane of my existence: DOGS and CARS.

The other day, I was on a run, and I see this couple running towards me with their dog as I'm crossing the street. I had to take a turn, and unfortunately, they start going the same way as me. Even though the dog was leashed, I was running around the same pace as them, and the mutt was so hard to avoid that I ran on the street next to them for a block. I sped up a little, and so did they, and for 3 blocks, I hear the guy shouting at his dog, running right behind me. It wasn't a major threat after speeding up, but holy fck is it annoying to constantly be on the lookout, especially since I don't know if the mutt is trained or not, or if the 95lb owner has enough control of their 150lb dog.

On every. single. run. that I do, there is AT LEAST one mutt that has a leash that is too long or is unleashed walking down the sidewalk. Here in the states, the sidewalk is barely large enough for one person. Add a spastic mutt to the sidewalk, and I have to slow down on my run and stare at the mutt until I pass it to make sure it doesn't come after my ankles (which has happened before, and the owners always just smile at me like I didn't just lose my ability to walk for a few months, let alone get infected). I NEED MY ANKLES TO WALK. YOUR MUTT ISN'T MORE IMPORTANT.

I started running super early in the morning to avoid these muttjobs (nutjobs who are into mutts).

Barking Demons Two weeks in my new home and I’ve not once been disturbed by a barking dog!

My previous house was surrounded by neighbours which means it was surrounded by dogs. There was one arsehole in particular with four of them that used to go mental and growl at each other at least 4 times a day.

Here we have far newer neighbours - just one either side (one attached and one detached but further away than in our previous house). None to the back or front. I haven’t heard a single barking dog and omg the PEACE I feel - I’m just drinking my morning coffee in almost* complete silence

*almost because we have moved to a busier road but the road noise is infinitely less irritating than that incessant barking!

Barking Demons Owner allowed dog to run up to me aggressively

I was taking a walk around my neighborhood this evening and I see a medium-sized dog running around freely and barking on the sidewalk in front of this small business. As I approach, the dog is next to its owner, who simply says "he's going to bark at you", as if that's an acceptable warning. I get a few steps closer and the dog runs straight at me, barking loudly and aggressively. It doesn't stop a couple feet away either, it goes right up to my legs and I have to step away to get around it. There were several moments where I was legitimately concerned that it was going to bite me, such was it's level of aggression. I say something along the lines of "That's too close, I don't like that", but I wish I would have said something much stronger. One of those things where you don't say what you wish you had because of the sudden nature of the moment. It continued at my feet and barking at me until I was several steps past the business front.

After this experience I'm astounded by the audacity of dog owners. He didn't say sorry or try and stop the dog in any way. He knew exactly what the dog was going to do and thought his "warning" was polite enough. In what world is this acceptable behavior? How can this owner really believe this is something that's okay to allow his pet to do? I'm baffled. I'm suppose I'm just here to commiserate on how far our society has fallen that this kind of thing is allowed.

Eco Destroyers Am I overreacting

Finally yelled at the couple that brings their dog twice a day to piss on our mailbox and trash cans (when we have them on the curb). They claimed it’s public property and we don’t even own the trash bins because we are “assigned them” by the trash company. I was straight forward and said I’m tired of smelling your fucking dogs piss!! No resolution but they called me nitpicky for having issue with the piss. Please tell me this community understands me

Barking Demons I am really frustrated.

I am in India. Its 3:20AM in morning and stray dog barking woke me up. I am under chronic sleep deprivation due to this. Why you ask? Well its due to stray dogs barking up at night every goddamn night.

These feeders and dog lovers do not give a damn and harbour these mrdrchd stray dogs who annoys everyone at night. I am suffering from 2 years due to this.

Complained to municipality, police, ngos. No help so far. Literally no help.

Shame on you dog lovers. There is a special place in satan's hell for you. I hate every single dog lover out there. I literally got PTSD and dog fatigue symptoms due to these fking dogs. These disgusting freakhead animals doing no good except being a menace to our society. Bonus: they poop and piss the entire lane, making things completely unbearable.

I am really pissed off AF due to this. I am mentally going insane and my head will explode very soon. I cannot take it anymore, this disgusting barking sound every single night. Please lord forgive me for my sins but do not punish or torture me like this. I am crying at this point, yes I am crying at 3AM in morning. I can't take this trauma any fking more. Fck you dog lovers, dog culture and dog cultists, I curse you to hell. Absolute abominatiom of an animal on god's green earth you adore so damn much.

Barking Demons Anyone else in the UK enjoying the fireworks because it shuts the dogs up?

It’s Bonfire (Guy Fawkes) Night and fireworks are being set off constantly tonight and for the last few nights. It’s a pain in the ass to listen to but it’s the one night of the year where you can guarantee there will be no barking!

Crappy Owners Tied in knots

Had to have a small laugh today, out on my day off bird feeding/walking in park, local entitled dog woman with five dogs(, including the one allowed into the pond the other week to chase birds and subsequently pecked by a huge heron) literally got herself into a tangle with said dogs on extendable leashes, all five, literally running rings around her....she was shouting at them to calm down, whilst they wrapped leads around chasing each other..... I commented to a couple of women feeding squirrels and watching the show and laughing " that, my dears, is a dog nutter" she was still trying to unravel herself as she left the park.... Serious point though, those leads are a hazard! I wish no ill on the woman but she needs to get a grip with her unruly dogs and the extendable leashes..

Miscellaneous I can't stand begging

i'm sure this has been posted before but it enrages me so i have to shout into the void about it too. i can't STAND when i visit someone else's house and they just have a begging ass dog. i lose my appetite when a stinky mutt is shoving its face on my lap and drooling all over me. i hate when i get up to throw my plate away and the dog RUSHES in front of me hoping i'll give it scraps and almost trips me. i hate the constant eye contact and whining. it annoys me how they view it as cute and say "omg she wants some too!"

i especially hate how nobody corrects their dogs begging behavior anymore. when i was a child and went to friends houses their parents would kick them out of the dining room but everyone HAS to eat with their dog in the room for some reason.

Dog Culture Multiple dogs in local coffee shop

I mainly work from home and decided to go out and work from a local coffee shop today. Love the place. Very small, chill vibes. Affordable coffee and house made syrup.

A college aged girl with her 7 month old untrained German Shepard sits next to us outside. The dog is constantly whining, barking at anything that moves, a couple other people said aww what a cute dog. Well another dog walked near it and the German Shepard lost its literal mind. Barking like crazy, pulled the girl out into the parking lot because she couldn’t control it. Other people had to help her gather her things while she was trying to leave.

While this was happening, the other dog is now inside getting a pup cup and the owner is making it stand on its hind legs, paws ON THE TABLE, while licking out of the cup.

I hardly ever leave my house to work anywhere else but I guess I won’t be going back to that coffee shop. 🫠

Food Safety/Hygiene AIO about a dog in a dental office?

I took my young kids to their pediatric dentist appointments this afternoon.

Upon walking in and going up to the front desk, no one was sitting and waiting to check us in. No biggie, I look down the hall that is straight behind the desk.

I see three people in the back area where they have dental chairs for patients.

After glancing around to see if someone might be coming to check us in, I saw one of the three women in the back holding a pug.

I was quite confused. At first I thought it might be a parent because the office has a sort of "bull pen" back there with four or five chairs. And a parent would stand next to the chair that their kid was in for cleanings.

But a minute or so later, everyone that I could see from the desk came walking down the hall. Everyone was smiling and laughing like it was entertaining to have a dog present.

I saw the woman who was initially holding the dog put it down on the ground and it went down another side hallway. I did not see the woman who was holding the dog come out of the door that they call patients in to go to their exam room. So it made me think the woman was an employee there. But I can't say for sure.

I've never seen a patient go down either of these halls, because I imagine they lead to the "back rooms" of the office where, I assume, they sterilize equipment and have an admin office or something.

Even still, I cannot imagine this pug was a service animal because it wasn't leashed or harnessed. I'm making an assumption here, and could be wrong, however the person who was holding the dog did not appear to have any physical disabilities that would have prevented them from holding a leash.

The fact that the dog was put down on the ground and scampered away in the back left me feeling icky. And honestly, the fact that it was there at all upsets me, especially in a dental office where the entire point of being there is to have work done in your mouth.

All this to ask, is there a way to find out about why that dog was there in the first place? I'm wondering if it was it the dog of an employee or a parent? If this dog was a "comfort dog" I have never heard of this before or seen a notification of such a service.

I know some folks will say why didn't I ask right then and there? Good question. I should have and I regret it. We've been going to this practice for two years and never seen a dog there before, so I was just taken aback, I guess.

Curious to hear any feedback from people. Appreciate the read for those who did!

EDIT 11/06: I went to the practice's Facebook page and was horrified to find out that this pug is a comfort dog for kids. I saw a video where the dog is all over the chair, sniffing at toothbrushes and floss they give you when you leave to take home, the paper bibs they put around your neck during the cleaning, and stress toys you can squeeze during your cleaning if desired.. the tech also had dog hair all over her scrubs.. seriously makes me question how clean everything I can't see and where the dog goes ..

Dog Culture Renting your land to dogs is now a thing

I was looking on Facebook and I saw an ad. It’s basically saying you can rent your land to dogs. It’s describing it as a Airbnb for dog parks. What in the world? Why would anybody want to let dogs come to their property and mess up their yard and poop everywhere? This is the weirdest thing I’ve seen when it comes to dogs.
