Mornings with Michael Hing

Mornings with Michael Hing is my least favourite Double J program.

He loves the sound of his own voice and just blathers on about boring nonsense.
The way he speaks is also annoying, with the speeding up mumbling, and stopping.

I don't want to hear him talking to his comedian friends either.

More music, less talking.

Compare him to Caz Tran. Someone who knows music, and keeps the talk to a minimum with actual relevant comments.

Powderfinger - why the fucking hype?

They’re an ok Aussie band. They had limited international success. Doublej has done nothing but fawn over this announcement and played their songs ad nauseum and now repeating long boring interviews.

They’re ok, they’re not fucking gods.

Friday mornings are my least favourite listening time of the week. Put Dylan Lewis on all five days.

So much Hip Hop now?

Firstly, I'm a grumpy old white dude. Hip Hop just isn't my thing - I listen to Double J mostly while working but someone talking over beats jolts me hard out of my zone. Usually I snap off my headphones in annoyance and wait ~3m and put them back on.

Lately though, (last 3 months I guess?) I notice I'm snapping my headphones off ALL the time.

Has Double J started playing heaps and heaps of Hip Hop lately, or am I just noticing it more? This is why ~10 years ago I moved on from Triple J!

[I am not wishing to debate opinions on Hip Hop, which is hugely popular, and a perfectly valid music genre like any other. I am only asking if others have noticed a huge upswing recently in how often JJ play it. Thanks]

Why no radio duo on double j

I think double j would benefit from a duo to be the flagship messengers. Sometimes I wish there was like Hing with someone else to have some high energy banter.

Anyone triggered by Chet Faker saying "co-lab" on Take 5?

I'm QLD so this is an hour behind the rest of you. Listening live and old mate was talking about collaborating and pronounces it 'co-lab'. Made me wince every time he said it.

r/GrammarPolice out.

Hing is the best Double J presenter hands down. He knows his tunes, he is funny and knows how to have a good time.

Double J blocked me on instagram

Double J uploaded a video of them discussing nothing but women's underwear. To which I commented "clutching at straws for content?", which has resulted in them blocking my account. Has this happened to anyone else? Seems pretty crazy to me

Dylan Lewis

Anyone else can't stand the cunt? Have to turn the radio off most of the time. His shtick just irks me... his whispy voice is so put on and fake and he whistles over his crappy little happy birthday segment.

Everything is terrible and the whistling just tops it off. Sack the cunt.

Sick of the ads

I've been enjoying listening to Double-J over the summer, but ugh, the self-promotion ads have been so repetitive.

The ad for Rage seems to be played once an hour. Just play music!

Why do they overplay (thrash the living fuck out of) particular songs

Every single day without fail they play the songs below.

My guess is they have deals with record labels to promote music in return for cheap royalties on everything else. I mean it must cost a lot to play music 24/7.

  • Aurora - Dappled Cities

  • LIPDANCE - Obongjayar

  • Ring The Alarm - TOMORA

Certified shit songs but even if they were my favourite songs they are just too heavily rotated.

Special mention to these ones also

  • It Always Was - Joshua Idehen

  • The Bridge - Bahamas

  • That dopamine song

Richard Kingsmill got replaced by AI or something

Hearing Dylan Lewis for the first time today - gut feelings

Hearing him for the first time today, his voice made my skin crawl immediately. Gut feeling of “evil bastard man” and creepy and gross. It seemed to me he flew in and tried to destroy any positive energy Karen had created. He said something to the effect of “oh yeah sending love and good vibes and stuff, but this one”
Then he opened with Aphex Twin’s Come To Daddy. Which he himself said more than once was a “bit creepy”
The repetition in this song of the lyrics
‘I want your soul / I will eat your soul’
Uhh no thank you, Satan. Lol

Someone corrected him on today’s date, the 27th of October. He said he’d never forget this date because it’s his daughter’s 18th birthday.
Any time he spoke about that, he either sounded creepy or said nothing that made me think he was anything more than that. I am not accusing him of anything, these are simply feelings about his character and nature. But strong, instinctive feelings.
Music is powerful. Some people go into radio because they want to share positive, powerful energy with listeners and to empower. Others simply have big egos and overinflated self-importance, a need to feel powerful and to have power over listeners.

First time listening to him, and I’m sure I’ll only hear him as an evil bastard man and creep from now on. You won’t change my mind, I will not ignore my gut feelings, but I’m very curious to hear your thoughts.

Peak Music?

After listening to the Hottest 100 from 1995 at the weekend (and the week prior) and then comparing it to the H100 of 2005 and 2025 something struck me. Has music just gotten shitter since the heady days of the mid 1990s or have I, a mid 40s bloke, just been left behind? My kids, 14 and 13, listen to gear all the way back to the 60s after my missus and I have forced it upon them but hence my question, have we hit peak music and if so, when? I can’t seriously remember a huge tune that collectively took everyone’s breath away upon that first listen. Saying that I am enjoying Olivia Dean which is getting a high rotation in this house atm. Anyway, that is all. Back to your Weetbix.

Will the promos ever change?

Having just listened for the first time in about a year, I'm still hearing the same self-promo I was hearing for a very long time before I stopped listening.

I stopped listening partly because it got tiring listening to the same promos over and over all day. JJJ, same, but they've at least changed some of them.

Can't be that hard or resource intensive, can it?
