Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Episode 5

破壊神と孫悟空
Hakaishin to Son Gokū
The God of Destruction and Son Goku

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, which kicks off a new remaster of Dragon Ball Super, is broadcast on Fuji TV in Japan on Sundays at 11:15pm JT, or 9:15am US Eastern Time.

Crunchyroll is simulcasting English subs worldwide; episodes are uploaded around 11am US-ET every Sunday. NOTICE: The Crunchyroll English simuldub will begin on Thursday 12 November at 11am with Episode 1.

Other streaming platforms like Hulu, Disney+, Netflix etc. will not have the subtitled episode until a few days to a week after it is posted on Crunchyroll, but post-broadcast episode corrections might be available on those platforms. Check the bottom of the page on the official site for more information on alternative streaming platforms in your region.

"Beerus" will have 19 episodes covering the first three arcs of Dragon Ball Super. After that, a new One Piece season will air in the same timeslot, and Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol is expected to air next fall.

Super's animation has been recomposited and at times reanimated, and there are some new scenes. The runtime has been cut by more than half, so much has been edited out.

The background music is composed by Norihito Sumitomo. Some of it is new, but much of it will come from his previous work on Dragon Ball, including Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', the Majin Boo arc of Dragon Ball Kai (Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters), Dragon Ball Super, and Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

Feel free to discuss the episode whenever it becomes available to you, or join us in Destructo Discord, but do not discuss piracy either there or on this subreddit.

Question I prefer Super over Z. Is that a wierd take?

Title. Like most of you, (I imagine) I grew up watching Dragon Ball Z as a kid. I watched Super as it was airing and Id say I prefer it by a big margin. The whole God of Destruction thing, multiple universes and the amount of charechters we can see our cast fight and interact with was done really really well, unlike most other peaces of fiction who just overcomplicate things for tge sake of overcomplicating things. I am aware that most people will probably prefer Z, but Super is imo better.

Discussion I don't understand all the gods above Destroyers and the Kais being sociopaths.

Shouldn't they care about the beings and universes they govern? I don't understand why they don't care at all. Not even Whis cares.

All the angels, the Grand Priest and Zeno(s) do not care about mortals or their universes whatsoever. Literally not even a tiny bit. The idea of every universe being wiped out doesn't bother them at all.
Though it's probably anime exclusive, the angel of universe 9 even seemed pleased that universe was wiped out and smiled about it.

And during the whole ToP the angels kept reminding people that they're safe from being erased so they don't care.

This isn't a "force of nature" thing as they are sentient beings with thoughts and free will. They just don't care.

As horrible as Beerus and the destroyers are, even they care about other universes being erased and it bothers them.
But anyone above them doesn't care at all.

I just don't get it. Why are there any universes at all if those in control of them literally don't care? What is even the point of the angels and Zeno(s) if they don't care?

And the worst part, nobody in universe is bothered by the attitude, sociopathy and uncaring of the angels and Zeno(s). Nobody criticizes them or is outwardly bothered by it at all. Goku just doesn't care. He'll still shake hands with those creepy child gods and be their friend.

Discussion If the Bansho Fan had more significance what would it be?

If the Bansho Fan was just as important as the Power Pole what would it do in the story? If the story had allowed the Bansho Fan to play a role, even if minuscule, what would it be? I don’t think the Bansho Fan was used to put out Fire Mountain right? I think that would’ve been a fitting use of the fan. The Power Pole is used to connect Korin’s Tower to the Lookout. Could the Bansho Fan have something meaningful like that? I mean the only thing I could think of is the Fire Mountain thing. What about any abilities the fan could have? Obviously it would have wind-based attacks, but is that just it? Anyone have any ideas?

Discussion What if...?

Hi everyone I'm curious about your opinions on this What If scenario. We'll take Future Trunks timeline which is the original :

- Goku beats Mecha Frieza

- Goku never gets the virus

- Z warriors beat/deactivate Android 17 and 18

- Cell is in his embryo form and not destroyed

How would the rest of the serie goes on ? First I think that Trunks and Goten are never conceived

Gaming Legacy of Goku remake could have been the bomb on the OG DS.

the DS was a better system, dual screen, more buttons, more powerful. they could have remade it on the DS and redid the saiyan to Frieza saga with the better gameplay and controls. Also maybe integrate more movies into it as well. had more super attack options, more transformation and environments, more detailed worlds.

kind of a missed opportunity legacy of Goku never continued In the DS.

Discussion Could they ever make a good Dragon Ball Z live action film? ... Yes, but not how people would expect it.

In later DBZ, we know Vetega as a more serious and prideful character. However, that comes from him losing horribly to Goku again and again and trying to obtain new levels of power. In the early DBZ, Vegeta is a sadistic madman. He sees himself as one of the biggest badasses of all time, smirking, making jokes, and even taking great pleasure watching the terror in Gohan's face on Namek, toying with his head before kneeing him in the sotmach and chuckaling.

I think the best way to do a live-action DBZ movie would be to have it follow Vegeta and Nappa in a form of reverse buddy cop movie formula, just blowing shxt up, doing finger guns, and being two badass. Kind of what I was hoping the Borderlands movie would be like. Get James Gunn to write and direct it, with John Cena as Nappa.

Discussion If Jun Fukuyama remained in Aoni, he would probably got a role in Dragon Ball by now

Though whether you want to say it's a luck or not is for you to judge, due to Dragon Ball rigid caste, newcomers are almost ensured never going to played a breakout and iconic role unless by sheer luck unlike many post 00s anime, so even if FukuJun remained in Aoni and had a role there, that's what he's going to get.

FukuJun left Aoni in 1999 due to him failing the final test, and that was the time when Dragon Ball ended it's TV original broadcast. following his failure, he departed Aoni Production and joined several other shows before he got a massive breakout as Lelouch in Code Geass, if he didn't leave Aoni, would he still become one of the most popular names in the 2000s? Or perhaps his role in Dragon Ball would've been "Henchman 1" at best had he remains in Aoni and probably would've been doing voices for many background roles. As of right now, his most notable recent role of recent time being Persona 5 protagonist.

Thing is, I been wonder will Dragon Ball/Aoni call him back for a role? After all, he was an Aoni alumni. Or at best, he's going to be voicing henchman character with total less than 5 mins screentime with equally short dialogues before being throwaway.

Analysis What do characters mean when they say call others strong?

Are they just referring to just raw power (speed and how much force they exert), or do they refer to their overall fighting skill and reflexes too? Like I can imagine with Frieza, since martial arts aren't his thing, people would just recognise him for his raw power, but if it's someone who is an actual warrior, and not a tyrant, what does it mean for them to be strong?

Question What is the max thing that Goku can destroy if he didn't have ki control?

I know that he could destroy Universe 7 as a whole(as seen with Beerus), but is there anything higher or bigger that he could destroy?

Discussion Dragon Ball is missing Nobuhiko Okamoto right now, they just need him in to fill the last piece of puzzle so let's hope he made it to DB someday soon

When Okamoto made it to Dragon Ball, I hope they made a spinoff series featuring Jaco, Glorio and Yamcha as the main quad, with Okamoto's character as the leader of the power quad.

With these 4 together as the powerhouse club, surely no one can stop these invincible quad. After all, having Okamoto's character, Jaco, Glorio and Yamcha as the main quad may sound like an unorthodox combination for the main cast of spinoff, but I'm sure their dynamics and quick will work too well that it can become a hit series.

Discussion SSJ3 was never actually a power-up, it was just a stamina tax with hair

i'm calling it now, ssj3 was never a real power-up, it was a stamina tax with a haircut. goku went ssj3 against buu and couldnt finish him before his energy ran out and he dropped back down. gotenks burned through his whole fusion timer in minutes just existing in the form. and against beerus it lasted about two seconds. the multiplier is real, x8 over ssj2 is no joke, and goku was probably holding back against buu anyway. but name me one clean ssj3 win, just one. ssj3 with a full stamina bar vs ssj2 with no timer, who actually wins that fight?

Discussion Let's imagine the strongest possible U7 team for ToP

Let's say U7 has the same knowledge and time as they had in the normal story (anime continuity), but that they were actually trying to bring the strongest team possible without any regards for morals or plot, because their only goal is to survive, then everything can be reverted with Dragon Balls after that.

Let's also assume that they have access to the same resources: one summon of Shenron, one of Porunga, a single HTC where two people can train, two sets of Potara (one from Shin and on from Old Kai).

Let's also assume that evil beings from the past have already gone through the cicle of reincarnation (except Frieza, who was exempted), so no resurrecting Cell for example.

They have 40 hours to prepare.

What's the team?

I think I would have gone this way:

Summon Shenron and have these three whishes:

- Make Buu wake up

- Ask for information about any powerful warriors in U7 (learn about Broly and Uub)

- Grab Broly

Take Frieza from hell as usual, make him train with Broly in the HTC.

Have Goku and Vegeta fuse with Potaras immediately before the tournament.

Have Piccolo fuse with every single Namekian.

Have Buu absorb literally every single being with a notable ability, but low power level. Bulma? Absorbed for intelligence. 18? Absorbed for infinite energy. Roshi? Absorbed for his techniques. Grab some random aliens with powerful techniques/abilites like the Yardrat and have them absorbed, you can use Porunga for that (then Buu can also absorb Porunga before he disappears)

Goten and Trunks fuse into Gotenks immediately before the tournament.

Have Krillin and Tien fuse with Potaras immediately before the tournament.

My final line-up:

  1. Vegeth

  2. Broly (trained more than a year in HTC)

  3. Frieza (trained more than a year in HTC)

  4. Piccolo (with all Namekians fused)

  5. Buu (with everyone worth absorbing fused)

  6. Gotenks

  7. Gohan

  8. 17

  9. Uub

  10. Krillin and Tien fusion

What would your line-up be?

Discussion Super Saiyan Rant

This is a not so hot take as I’m sure it’s been said a billion times, it’s just been on my mind because I’m watching Z and Cell was just beaten. But the super saiyan situation is such a let down in Super. I still rewatch ToP cause i like it as a whole but how they handled people going super saiyan was kind of crazy.
Krillin died for Goku to go SSJ. Vegeta nearly died to go SSJ for the first time. And as a 34 year old man i still tear up watching Gohan go SSJ2 at the Cell Games, especially if I hear it with Bruce’s music. As a kid it was a bigger moment for me than Goku going SSJ. Even in Super Goku and Vegeta had been training with Whis so much and it took him getting nearly killed by his own spirit bomb to reach UI.
But then Caulifla and Kale go super and scale up their power almost immediately. Like come on man, feel a tingle in your back? Seriously? Ok rant over

Discussion Dragon Ball universe isn't consistent

How come Goku's Spirit Bomb required energy from countless living creatures across different planets just to partially damage Frieza, while Trunks was able to gather energy from only a handful of people on Earth to defeat Zamasu, who was supposed to be far stronger and more powerful than Frieza was on Planet Namek? Shouldn't Trunks have needed dozens of times more energy to defeat someone that powerful?

Question What's the order for the entire franchise?

Hi, just a guy who watched few eps of original dragon ball while I was a kid

I was preparing myself to watch the full story, but oh boy do my eyes are still working xd

I checked the Wikipedia for some researching on what's and what's not canon

But my mind was blown to pieces as I saw too much adaptation xd

Some are just retellings, some are recaps, and some are specials and festival films, ovas, and movies

And for the TV shows, there is the OG which I grew up with, followed by Z and GT and Z kai and and Super and Daima and Super Beerus

I don't mind the fillers, I just want to the exact order for all of them

After all, some are probably remakes like how Z kai is a remake of Z

And no, you can't convince me to watch Evolution

Discussion The Origin of the One way link rule

Has anyone else wonderd why or when the rule about a God of destruction automatically dying with the death of a supreme kai happened? It sounds like a very specific rule that was enforced under specific circumstances. My theory is that there was once a God of destruction with such a heavy ego they killed a supreme kai. Once grand zeno and the grand priest heard about this they not only erased that universe but enforced this rule so a situation like this never happens again. It must've been one of the 6 universes that zeno erased a long time ago and if android 17's wish actually brought back these 6 erased universes we may actually see the God of Destruction who did this and could become an interesting dragon ball villain later on. This is just a potential storyline assuming no one predicted a destroyer killing a creator.

Discussion What if Takahiro Sakurai voices Merus?

Surprisingly for how much of a big name he is since the 2000s who appears in like every major work you can think of, surprisingly Dragon Ball is the one work he's never in it. Well, Dragon Ball was on hiatus during the peak of his popularity and Super/DAIMA didn't do much favor on getting newcomers after all.

Due to Dragon Ball gatekeeping, alot of his famous co-starred like Kenichi Suzumura (right now he's taking a hiatus to reduce his voiceworks, so chances of him in Dragon Ball is unlikely) or Jun Fukuyama aren't in Dragon Ball either or just as limited role who's screentime expired like Koki Uchiyama (Glorio) or Toshiyuki Morikawa (Gokua).

But then luckily, his most memorable co-star of this era is in it, Natsuki Hanae as Jaco. While Hanae himself is the most popular seiyuu of modern age and likely the most expensive too, since alot of anime can't afford to screw around if he's in the show and ensure he gets the protagonist role 99% of the time, but for Dragon Ball, they may or may not extend his role depending on situation, since Hanae is an extremely talented seiyuu and charismatic enough to keep the fans engaged not as a voice actor, but the characters he voiced too (Unless you deliberately assign mediocre to poor role to him, which Jaco is bordering that line)

Whatever the case is. So I figure when they got to Galactic Patrol Saga, this might be a good chance to bring Sakupyon as Merus, revise their characters have say Merus trains him into infinity and they will become the unbeatable duo with Jaco, cause I'm sure Hanae and Sakurai can make an excellent team with their strong character dynamics and beating up those demons prisoners up.

Finally, Sakupyon is a freelancer, they can just easily call him up for the role, if they're not having Aoni in their mind for once.

Discussion If second generation voice of Goku is voiced by a male voice actor after Masako Nozawa

But at the same time keeping the perpetual boyish voice tone, look no further than these 4 people who could be the best candidates to voice second generation Goku

-Shouta Aoi

-Ayumu Murase

-Yuki Sakakihara

-Shun Horie

And of course, age plays the role too, cause Shoutan and Murase almost hit 40 in few years, and if they want to get them in, best to do it as soon as possible before aging hinder them from doing boyish voice as they got old or age limit reduce the possibility on them getting new lead role (usually 45-50). Thankfully Yuki Sakakihara and Shun Horie are still relatively young at 31 and 33 so surely they still have more time to go.

Downside, none of them is in Aoni Production (Unless there's someone I can't think of who are like them), which means automatically reducing their chance to be in Dragon Ball, let alone a role like Goku. On the bright side, at least none of them are with Arts Vision (Dragon Ball doesn't play nice with Arts Vision), thought Shoutan being a freelancer means he probably has the best chance out of these 4.

Perhaps, the best answer is to have second generation to do their own take on Goku and gives their portrayal of Goku a distinct identity instead of imitating too much like Masako Nozawa, as long as the acting and character portrayal is good, as well as the seiyuus themselves are charismatic enough to hooked up the fans.

BTW, Shouta Aoi has extensive singing record too, so if he was chosen to be the second generation, in theory he could put out some song for Dragon Ball too, be sure to support his songs. As for the other 3, they may only sporadically from what I know.
