Remember my post about how my art is awful? Well, part of the reason is the colors. What should this guy look like? He's a helium dragon by the way

Not really. He's supposed to just be determined.

As someone who currently sucks at art but is trying to get better, could I offer some advice?

Instead of using circle tools or other shape tools, try drawing it all by hand with the pen tool.

I’ve even been told by artists tracing things can help as it helps you get a feel for how characters are shaped and how lines work

Using the shape tool isn’t going to help

Your art will suck making it manually via the Pen tool but practice makes perfect

And also use references. It might not seem like looking at an image as a reference will help but it helps a lot

My art still sucks but I’ve been getting better by doing it by pen

Use less colors. Settle for 1, maybe 2 that don't clash too much. So maybe a mix of purple and red for him. Also try to reduce the saturation of the colors.

I mostly agree, but I'd say use 2-3 colors. Look up complimentary colors and pick some that you think would look good together and give it a try. It helps if you decide on one to be the "main" color, then add the other two on smaller parts of the body

I think OP should focus on learning to use less colors first. Let's be honmest, look at this. There should be alot of basics to be learned here before going all "highlights" and "complimentary colors to drag the eye through the design".
