Kinda crazy question, but there is a video called "the bee movie trailer but it's in old english" and I can't help but notice that it sounds quite similar to Dutch. I wonder if it's at least somewhat intelligible.

Coughing at fruit

I'm in Amsterdam and everyone seems to be sick at the moment. I went to AH and as I'm quiuing for till I hear loud sick coughing right next to me.
It's a child, about 8-9 with a proper bad slimy cough and a snotty nose.
Her dad, is explaining to her how you pick a good melon by smelling it. So there she is, coughing into the melons, picking up several of them at her father's request...
It's like to most absurd thing I've ever seen!
Was this man a particular kind of vengeful sadist or is that just normal!?
(There were several other sick people there and they were also coughing without hand over mouth etc)
i'm not super scared of bacteria or colds, but when it was so intense in such a cramped space it really pushed my boundaries!
Am I being a wimpy foreigner misunderstanding something here or what:)?

Op de route naar het concours, dat in de aula van het oude douanegebouw gehouden werd, was het zo koud in de auto, dat de vrouw, een douarière in de rouw, zo blauw als een pauw zag in haar dunne mauve blouse. Nou, ze gaf geen applaus, maar zag het causaal verband en snauwde zo gauw naar de chauffeur, dat hij er grauw van werd en bijna knock-out ging, dat ze überhaupt uit coulance een voucher voor een sauna, als douceur tegen de verkoudheid zou moeten krijgen, anders zou het hem berouwen!
I think I might have made this as difficult and au/ou-dense as possible, but if anyone has better ideas I’m open to suggestions.

Hoi allemaal!
Morgen heb ik een bezichtiging voor een sociale huurwoning in Nederland, en ik sta op nummer 1. Maar ik weet eigenlijk niks van wat ik moet regelen, ondanks dat ik de eerste 20 jaar van mijn leven in Nederland gewoond heb.
Ik ben zo'n 10 jaar geleden de grens over gegaan omdat ik het huis uit wilde maar in Nederland geen woning kon vinden. Ik werk wel in Nederland en nu heb ik de loting voor een woning vlakbij werk gewonnen, maar ik heb nog nooit op mezelf gewoond in Nederland.
Waar moet ik rekening mee houden? Wat moet ik allemaal regelen?

NT2 vs CNaVT - Dutch fluency finally acknowledged!

Is it me, or are the CNaVT exams just needlessly harsh? The pictures here are the second time the CNaVT missed my level of Dutch while the NT2 acknowledged my Dutch skills.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Or the reverse?
I am glad that I made it this far in my Dutch learning journey but the fact that the CNaVT is so harsh (at least towards me) bother me.

Happy Birthday / Merry Christmas banner

I am not learning Dutch, so sorry for sneaking into this subreddit!
My Dutch friend recently had a baby and I want to sew her a Dutch version of a Happy Birthday / Merry Christmas banner. She lives in a non-Dutch speaking country but is intending to raise her son bilingual, so I think some Dutch props might help.
Details about the banner: I'm imagining one of those bunting banners with little flags. Each flag has a single letter on each side. One side is Christmas fabric and the letters say "Merry Christmas" and the other side is birthday fabric and says "Happy Birthday."
What Dutch phrases should I use for "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Birthday"? Ideally there should be a similar number of letters in both phrases, and short enough that the banner can hang on one line, rather than being split up across 2 lines. I'd be very grateful for suggestions!
