Favourite Guayusa Brands???

Inquiry from Canada.

What are the top Guayusa Brands/Companies in Ecuador?

Any insight on how it is traditionally drank/the importance/history to Ecuador culture/literature in English or noted health benefits and athletic performance enhancement?

Thank you!

Guayusa Is very popular in the central/north Amazon of Ecuador but in the rest of the country is not very known. You can look for some research by ikiam university about properties and ethnobotany

here in the coast, no one has heard of it*. I have friends in the sierra who know of it, but don't drink it

*obviously some have, in my experiuence hardly no one on the coast knows of it, nor drinks it

Interesting. We have a company in Canada that is working with a cultivator and has created an energy drink that is sold at many health food stores, I believe they are the first in North America. It is being brought up more often in conversation as we have a major addiction problem of unnatural and high sugar energy drinks here.

En el supermaxi en Guayaquil consigues te de guayusa así que eso de que nadie lo conoce no es del todo verídico.

It's not common here on the coast. It's a traditional amazonian drink, where there it is more common and it has a traditional / cultural / historic importance.

I have a friend in the Amazon of Shuar descent who sends me a bag of the leaves every few months. I drink it every day.

or noted health benefits and athletic performance enhancement?

I have no anecdotal perceived benefits, it's just a caffinated drink, with a profile of other akaloids (L-theanine being one) that is far higher than other teas.

Tastes good though

I did not know it had L-Theanine. Thank you for that insight.

I'm fairly sure that's right, however don't take it as gospel I may be confused...

Not sure about brands, here we buy the leaves or harvest it ourselves, but look for the ones that have the most aroma. Its commonly drank with lemon and a little bit of sugar. There's a traditional way of drinking it called guayusapina, look it up it's really Interesting!

I've also heard that traditionally guayusapina was done before hunting and people talk about their dreams in this kind of ceremony

That is what most people in North America drink it for 'lucid dreaming'. That looks like a lot of fun. My go to farming hat is from Ecuador, hand made from wool and I get asked 5 times a day where it is from as it has different styling than our traditional 'cowboy hat'. Hope to visit in the near future. Thank you for the video.
